Today's ‘Wordle' #1412 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, May 1st

How to solve today's Wordle. Looking for Wednesday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Not only is it Thor's Day, it's also May Day. April is dead. May has risen from its ashes. Also, yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I gave all you fine Wordlers an extra brain-teaser to solve. Not that many of you sent me the answer, so kudos to those of you got this. Here's the puzzle: There are three boxes. One box contains gems. At least one box has a true statement and at least one box has a false statement. The three boxes are black, white and blue. The black box has a note on it that reads "the white box contains gems". The white box has a note on it that reads "only one box contains gems". And the blue box has a note on it that reads "only one box is true". In which box are the gems? The answer: The White Box. I got this puzzle from the new video game Blue Prince which is one of my favorite games of the year. It's such a delightful and challenging puzzle game. You play as the heir to a large estate who is tasked with finding the mysterious 46th room. Each day, you go into the manor and 'draft' new rooms, each with its own doors, treasures and lore, and try to map out an ever-shifting manor-house, all while finding special items and solving puzzles. Each day, you start over with a fresh slate, though there are some permanent unlocks you can find as well. It's genuinely wonderful and captivating, perhaps the best puzzle game I've played since Myst. The Hint: Someone with a special set of skills. The Clue: This Wordle starts with a vowel. Okay, spoilers below! . . . Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. CLOUT was a reasonably decent opening guess, leaving me with just 101 words and one green 'T'. I opted for all new letters with SPARE and got three yellow boxes for my troubles. At this point I could only think of one word, though it turns out EXPAT would have also worked. Thankfully, I only thought of ADEPT and that was the Wordle! Today's Wordle Bot I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot. Same score for the Bot. We begin our May contest with a tie (which is funny, because we ended April in a tie!) Erik: 1 point Wordle Bot: 1 point The word "adept" comes from Latin adeptus, the past participle of adipisci, meaning "to attain" or "to achieve." It originally referred to someone who had attained knowledge or mastery, especially in alchemy or esoteric arts, before broadening in meaning. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. I had quite a lucky guessing game today. While FLOAT left me with 160 possible solutions, LINER slashed that down to just one: IDLER for the win! Huzzah! Today's Wordle Bot I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot. The Bot loses 1 point for guessing in five and loses a second point since I beat it today. That brings us to a miraculous April tie! Erik: 15 points Wordle Bot: 15 points If only this had been 2XP Friday, I'd have won by a healthy margin. Still, I'm a little shocked I managed to catch up after being down most of the month. Double huzzah! The word "idler" comes from the noun "idle" (meaning "inactive" or "lazy") plus the agentive suffix "-er" (meaning "one who"). "Idle" traces back to Old English idel, meaning "empty, useless, vain," and possibly from Proto-Germanic idla- ("empty, vain"). So, "idler" simply means "one who is idle."
