Today's ‘Wordle' #1426 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, May 15th
How to solve today's Wordle. Looking for Wednesday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Since it's Thor's Day and yesterday was Odin's Day, I owe all you dear Wordlers a solution to the Wordle Wednesday riddle I handed out yesterday. This was a bit of a lateral thinking puzzle: A husband and wife are driving down a road one night when the car runs out of gas. The man leaves his wife in the car and hurries to a gas station down the road. He leaves the doors locked. When he returns, the doors are still locked but his wife is dead and there's a stranger in the car. What happened? The answer: The woman was pregnant. When the man went for help, she died giving birth and the man returned to find her dead and their child—the stranger—in the car. Grim, I know. At least I didn't post it on Mother's Day! Let's solve this Wordle. The Hint: Excited. The Clue: This Wordle has a more vowels than consonants. Okay, spoilers below! . . . Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. I started out quite terribly today with FLITE, leaving me with a whopping 412 remaining solutions and one lonely yellow box. SHEAR cut that down to 26 and gave me another yellow and one green box. I figured I really needed to get the 'E' into green and picked EAGER, which had two possible locations for the vowel. I was actually a bit shocked when it ended up being the Wordle! Huzzah! Today's Wordle Bot I made up for my big losses today, at least in part, getting 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. This adjusts our May tally to: Erik: 15 points Wordle Bot: 7 points The word eager comes from Middle English eagre, meaning "keen" or "fierce," which was borrowed from Old French eigre. That, in turn, comes from Latin acer, meaning "sharp, keen, or spirited." So originally, eager conveyed intensity or sharpness of desire. NYT ‘Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, May 4th
Connections hints and answers are here. Credit: The New York Times Looking for Saturday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here: Beginning this month, my colleague Paul Tassi and I are taking over the weekend desk for Connections guides from our colleague Kris Holt, who will still be handling weekday guides. I'm excited to expand my puzzling endeavors to this extra challenging, and sometimes incredibly frustrating, game. I'll also have to come up with a nickname for you Connections puzzle-solvers. I call my Wordle players Wordlers and my Strands players some version of Strandistarians or Strandistas (etc). Maybe Connectioneers will suffice (as in Musketeers) unless I come up with something better. Today is May the 4th, which is Star Wars Day (because May the 4th be with you) and today's Connections has some words that just might be from a galaxy far, far way. Let's get right to it! You can skip the next section and jump right to today's hints if you already know how to play. Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. Connections May 4th Credit: NYT Today's Bonus Clue: You'll notice some words that call to mind Star Wars in this grid (maybe calling to mind a Sith lord, a smuggler, a Wookiee and a bounty hunter). They are a trap. Do not lump them together! Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: I actually got this one pretty quickly today, mostly because I knew that the Star Wars words – DARTH, SOLO, BOBA and CHEWY – had to be a red herring. Once I spotted BOBA I just looked for other Boba Tea words and found SUGAR, MILK and TEA pretty quickly. That took care of those. After this, I tried to think of words with multiple meanings. NOODLE has several different meanings and as soon as I imagined noodling on a guitar, I realized that SOLO would work . . . and JAM and SHRED. Sure enough, the guitar player in me figured this one out. The purples took a bit longer, but I basically just took four words that seemed a bit off, not really fitting in with anything else, and grouped those. DARTH, GENUS, CARS and BLUTO? I didn't know how they fit together but I knew they were different from the rest of the words. Sure enough, these were actually planets – Pluto, Mars, Earth and Venus – and this left me with only yellows. Not too shabby! According to Connections Bot, this was trickier than recent connections, at 4/5 Difficulty. Here's the stats: Connections Bot Screenshot: Erik Kain How did you do on today's Connections? Today's ‘Wordle' #1402 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, April 21st
How to solve today's Wordle. Looking for Sunday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Well, the Easter Bunny has come and gone, leaving us to clean up all these eggs. Spring is in full bloom, though it snowed just before my chokecherry trees blossomed. Hopefully we'll still get that glorious pink arboreal bouquet. It's Monday once again, dearest Wordlers, and we have a Wordle to solve. Let's do it! The Hint: A word one might use to describe a large number of crimes, or some other outpouring. The Clue: This Wordle has ends in a vowel. Okay, spoilers below! FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder . . . Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. DRAKE left me with just 48 words, but I was uneasy. The 'A' and 'E' in those particular boxes leave you with so many very similar options. I could have gone with all new letters at this point, but then I thought 'What if this is SLATE, one of Wordle Bot's two favorite opening guesses?' I got lucky. Even though the Wordle wasn't SLATE, it left me with just two remaining choices. I went with SPATE over STATE and good thing, too. Today's Wordle Bot I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot. The Bot gets the same score. We both inch forward to our new April totals: Erik: 12 points Wordle Bot: 10 points As you can see, the Bot is still in the lead, but only just barely. And there's still almost two weeks left. This could go either way! I do love a close game . . . . The word spate likely comes from the Old Norse spǫt, meaning a flood or outpouring. It entered Scots and Northern English dialects in the 15th century, originally referring to a sudden flood or outburst of water. Over time, its meaning broadened to include any sudden outpouring or large quantity, such as a spate of words or a spate of crimes. How to solve today's Wordle. Looking for Saturday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Happy Easter, dearest Wordlers! However you spend your Sunday, there's one thing we all have in common: We have to solve this Wordle! The Hint: Useful for fixing pants or jackets, or video games. The Clue: This Wordle has mostly consonants. CLOUT was a very good opening guess today. Very lucky. I was left with just two yellow boxes, which didn't seem great, but later I'd learn I only had 26 remaining solutions. Not too shabby! I went with all new letters for my second guess and SPIRE cut that number down to just one: PATCH for the win! Huzzah! Today's Wordle I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. This turns the tide of battle for the first time this month, as I leap into the lead for April: Erik: 11 points Wordle Bot: 9 points As you can see, the Bot is still in the lead, but only just barely. And there's still almost two weeks left. This could go either way! I do love a close game . . . . The word patch comes from the late Middle English pacche, of uncertain origin. It may be related to the Anglo-French pieche (piece of cloth) or the Middle English pece (piece). It originally referred to a piece of material used to mend or cover something and later extended to various contexts, including software ("a patch to fix a bug"). Today's ‘Wordle' #1391 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, April 10th
How to solve today's Wordle. Looking for Tuesday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: Yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I handed out an extra tricky brain-teaser for you fine Wordlers to solve. Today, I'll post the answer. First, here was the puzzle: In the land of Skyreach, four giants—Brumm, Eldra, Tharn, and Gorrik—each set out to build a massive tower. They each work at a different pace, and each one faces a unique problem that delays their progress. No two giants share the same building speed (fastest, second fastest, third fastest, slowest) or the same problem. Based on the clues below, can you determine the order in which the giants finish building their towers? FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder In what order did the giants finish their towers? The answer: Alright, now it's Wordle time! (See last week's Wordle Wednesday challenge here, it's a good one). The Hint: Super fast! The Clue: This Wordle ends with a vowel. Okay, spoilers below! . . . Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. With my losing streak this month—losing to Wordle Bot, that is—I decided to play it safe with my opening guess and chose CRATE, similar to Wordle Bot's favorite opener, CRANE. This left me with just 40 words. I wanted to use something that knocked out two more vowels, and TORUS came to mind for whatever reason. It wasn't the Wordle, but it did slash out all the remaining possible solutions, leaving me with just one: TURBO for the win! Today's Wordle Bot I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. This brings our April totals to: Erik: 0 points Wordle Bot: 4 points I'm narrowing the gap! If I get a good 2XP Friday score I could tie this up possibly. If I get a bad score on Friday, all these gains are for naught. We shall see . . . . The word "turbo" comes from Latin turbo, meaning "whirlwind" or "spinning top." The Latin root relates to rapid spinning or rotation. In modern usage, "turbo" was adopted in the early 20th century as a shorthand for "turbine" (especially in "turbocharger") due to its high-speed spinning mechanism. It has since evolved into a general term implying speed or enhanced performance. Let me know how you fared with your Wordle today on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
