Public engagement events announced for new £10m sports village in West Cumbria
Plans to build a new £10m sports village will be on public display in West Cumbria later this month.
The proposals include building a multipurpose stadium on the existing Borough Park site. It'll become the home to Workington Reds and the Workington Town Rugby League Club.
Public engagement events will take place at the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre between 2pm - 7pm, on 9 July and 16 July 2025.
Developers say the facility will hold 3,700 sitting and standing spectators. The existing pitch will also be replaced with a 3G pitch suitable for both football and rugby.
The construction work is expected to begin early next year after a planning application is submitted this July.
Those behind the scheme say it'll be open within the next two years. The project is supported by the UK Government Town Deal, Cumberland Council and Football Foundation funding.
Dave Bowden, spokesman for Cumberland Sports Village, said: 'We thank everyone involved in reaching this stage and look forward to making this vision a reality.
'The plans for the new site will soon go on show, and we encourage anyone interested in knowing more about the development to make a visit to one of our public engagement events.'
