BCCI makes U-turn, set to attend ACC AGM, fate of Asia Cup to be decided on Thursday
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a U-turn and decided to attend the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday. The meeting will take place in Dhaka and will decide the fate of the upcoming Asia Cup, which India was scheduled to host in September. Sources within the BCCI confirmed to Hindustan Times that the board has indeed decided to attend the meeting virtually. BCCI makes U-turn. (AFP and AP Images) "Yes, we have decided to attend the meeting virtually," a BCCI source told Hindustan Times on the condition of anonymity. Earlier, amid rising political tension between India and Bangladesh, the BCCI decided not to visit Dhaka and threatened to boycott the all-important AGM. The meeting on Thursday is set to determine the status of the Asia Cup, which is supposed to be played in a T20 format. If the tournament gets the go-ahead, it will most likely be played in the UAE, with India maintaining its hosting rights. Considering the fact that the BCCI and PCB are not keen on playing on each other's turf, the UAE has emerged as a frontrunner to host the latest edition of the Asia Cup. Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had sided with the BCCI, saying they wouldn't visit Dhaka for the AGM. Considering the BCCI's changing stance, the two cricket boards are now also expected to attend the meeting virtually. The ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was determined to host the meeting in Dhaka. Also Read: BCCI, PCB at loggerheads; Asia Cup's chances hanging by a thread: 'The event has turned into a geopolitical matter' Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, and he was greeted by Md Aminul Islam, the chief of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Will India play Pakistan? Even if the Asia Cup gets the go-ahead in the AGM, it remains to be seen whether the BCCI will proceed with playing against Pakistan. In the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam and then the retaliatory Operation Sindoor, calls to boycott cricketing ties with Pakistan in every capacity have gained steam. Recently, the India Champions versus Pakistan Champions match in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was cancelled after social media outrage. Fans did not take kindly to former Indian cricketers agreeing to play against Pakistan in the tournament. Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Suresh Raina pulled out of the contest on the eve of the game, with the organisers having to cancel the match. If the Asia Cup gets the green light, it remains to be seen what happens to India vs Pakistan. Even if India and Pakistan are not clubbed in the same group, the two teams will have to battle it out in the Super 4s stage and eventually the final if they make it to the summit clash.

"Kamboj a good replacement....": Former Indian pacer Aaron on India's injury woes for Manchester Test
By Vivek Prabhakar Singh Northamptonshire [UK], July 23 (ANI): Former India pacer Varun Aaron has weighed in on Team India's growing list of injuries ahead of the fourth Test against England at Manchester, saying that debutant Anshul Kamboj is a 'good replacement' for the injured players. India will be without pace-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has a left knee injury, and pacer Akash Deep, who is out with a groin niggle. Akash had taken a ten-wicket haul at Edgbaston earlier in the series. Meanwhile, left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh's Test debut has also been delayed due to injury. Shardul Thakur will replace Reddy as an all-rounder, while Kamboj has been handed his maiden international cap. Speaking to ANI, Aaron said, 'Arshdeep had not played yet, so we cannot say much about him. Akash Deep had a brilliant game in Birmingham, which was heartening. Injuries are something no fast bowlers can control. Anshul Kamboj is a good replacement. Prasidh's last Test spell was really good. Good news is (Jasprit) Bumrah is going to play, and we all know how good Bumrah is.' Kamboj is known for his ability to stick to traditional lengths and hit the deck hard, generating movement. He was part of the India A squad before for the two unofficial Tests against the England Lions and impressed in the second, taking four wickets, including two in a single over. Not just with the ball, Kamboj exuded grit with the bat, stitching an unbeaten 149-run stand with Tanush Kotian in the same contest and scoring a half-century himself. In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, he scalped 34 wickets in six matches and finished as the leading wicket-taker in the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy. He created history by becoming only the third Indian to take all ten wickets in an innings against Kerala. In First-Class cricket, Kamboj boasts 79 wickets in 24 matches at an average of 22.88 while maintaining a strike rate of 44.2 and an economy of 3.10. Aaron, currently in the UK as part of the India Champions squad for the World Championship of Legends (WCL), also spoke about his team's disappointing start to the tournament. India Champions lost to South Africa Champions after being restricted to 111/9 while chasing 209, with AB de Villiers scoring a quickfire 63. Their opening match against Pakistan Champions was called off due to political tensions between the two nations. Speaking on his team's poor start, Aaron said, 'I am very sure we are going to bounce back. Last year, it was quite close towards the end, but we reached the finals and won. This first game, a lot of guys had not played for a long time and were a little rusty. Come next game, everyone will find their rhythm.' India's next match will be against Australia Champions on Saturday. (ANI)

WATCH: AB de Villiers turns back the clock with 360-degree batting and amazing fielding
Former Proteas captain AB de Villiers showed that he has lost none of his X-factor skills. Picture: AFP Image: AFP In a spectacular display of skill, former Proteas star AB de Villiers showcased his timeless talent, leading the South Africa Champions to an emphatic 88-run victory over the India Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 at The County Ground in Northampton on Tuesday. The 41-year-old invoked memories of his cricketing heyday, delivering a performance that left fans buzzing. Walking onto the pitch, De Villiers was an instant crowd favourite, and he certainly did not disappoint. He aggressively launched into the Indian bowlers, accumulating an impressive 63 not out off just 30 balls at a blistering strike rate of 210. His innings included three fours and a staggering four sixes, each shot echoing the flair and finesse that has been synonymous with his career. Revelling in his return to the crease, De Villiers employed his signature 360-degree sweep shots, combined with classy cover drives and powerful pull shots. His ability to control the game and manipulate the field underscored why he is revered as one of cricket's most explosive batsmen. The crowd couldn't help but reminisce about the days when he consistently dazzled on international stages, proving that age is merely a number in the world of cricket. With De Villiers anchoring the innings, South Africa set a formidable target of 209 runs, which proved to be more than enough to challenge their Indian counterparts. Under the DLS method, the South Africa Champions clinched an outright win. De Villiers also proved that he has lost none of the athleticism that made him one of the world's most outstanding fielders. The 41-yea-old displayed his dazzling fielding skills when he swiftly sprinted towards the ball, before executing a perfectly timed slide whilst taking a one-handed grab. In an instant, he deftly tossed the ball back to his teammate, Sarel Erwee, before his body could breach the boundary line which sent Yusuf Pathan on his way.
