Putting speculation to rest, Chirag says party not taking 2020 solo route in Bihar polls
File photo of Chirag Paswan (Pic credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: Putting all speculation to rest, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan has said that there will be no repetition of 2020 when his party went solo in the last assembly election in Bihar. He said his party considers all NDA candidates as their own and hence LJP (RV) is ready to put in its entire effort in securing victory for them in all 245 seats in the state. In response to a question on the sidelines of the curtain raiser event of World Food India 2025, Chirag said, 'I am reiterating that when I say LJP (RV) will contest all 243 seats, I honestly feel that till you don't treat all alliance candidates as your own nominees, you can't achieve the target for which you are working. The NDA alliance is working to win more than 225 seats out of 243. I feel that the candidates of JD(U), BJP and others in the alliance are my candidates. If anyone is feeling happy or enthused that I will repeat the role that I played in 2020 (last assembly election), then there is no reason within the alliance that I get back to that role. The NDA is contesting as a united force.' Responding to another question on whether Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor was hijacking his 'Bihar first, Bihari first' plank, the minister said none can hijack or copy the idea of another leader. However, he appreciated Kishor for 'making honest efforts' in the interest of Bihar. 'Prashant ji is playing an honest role in Bihar politics, which I appreciate. I welcome all who appeal to people to go beyond caste and communal is nothing wrong when people have more options,' he said. It can be recalled that Chirag had gone solo in 2020 assembly polls and had put up a brave fight in all seats where JD(U) had its candidates. Political pundits attribute poor performance of JD(U) to Chirag's move to put his candidates.

'Processed Food Is Not Bad': Union Minister Chirag Paswan
New Delhi: Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan on Wednesday stressed the need to correct the false narrative that processed food is bad for health. The Food Processing Industries Ministry has set up a committee in this regard, he added. Addressing a press conference to announce the World Food India event, Mr Paswan said that the level of food processing is still low in the country and there is a huge scope for growth in this sector. He said this sector can boost farmers' income and also provide huge job opportunities to youth. Mr Paswan spoke about "misleading advertisements" that brand processed food as "bad". False narratives are being set that processed food loses nutritional value, he added. Mr Paswan said there is a growing demand for ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook foods because of nuclear families and working couples. Food regulator FSSAI ensures the safety of food products, he added. Mr Paswan announced his ministry will hold the flagship conference 'World Food India 2025' in the national capital during September 25-28 to showcase investment potential in this sector and realise the vision of making the country a global food hub. This will be the fourth edition of World Food India. The event will be held on September 25-28 at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. Industry body FICCI is the national event partner. He also launched a dedicated website and a mobile app for this upcoming event. The event will see participation from many countries. Food Processing Secretary Avinash Joshi said, "Our sector has demonstrated remarkable growth over last decade, now it contributes almost 1/5 of agri product export in the country. Yet we recognise that substantial untapped potential remains." He said the World Food India platform would help in realising this potential. Mr Joshi noted that the earlier editions were successful, and now the ministry intends to scale it further. He said the event will bring together a diverse array of participants, food processors, equipment manufacturers, packaging solution providers, logistic firms, technology developers, academia, startups, retail innovators, state and central government bodies and international delegates. He said one of the major highlights would be the CEOs' round table. More than 100 CEOs from India and overseas will engage directly with policymakers. The theme of World Food India will be based on five pillars -- Sustainability and net zero food processing; India as a Global Food Processing Hub; Frontiers in Food Processing, Products and Packaging Technologies; Food for Nutrition, Health, and Wellness; and Livestock & Marine Products - accelerating the Indian rural economy.

MoFPI pushes for GST rationalisation, stronger food safety norms: Chirag Paswan
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is actively engaging with the Ministry of Finance to push for rationalisation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on key items linked to the food processing sector, Union Minister Chirag Paswan said on Tuesday. Speaking at the curtain raiser event for World Food India 2025 in New Delhi, Paswan stressed the urgent need to review and overhaul GST rates applicable to various food and packaged food items. 'We're in continuous dialogue with the Finance Ministry and have forwarded the concerns of food processing industry stakeholders. There is a pressing need to re-examine the GST structure for several key items,' Paswan told Moneycontrol. While refraining from naming specific products, Paswan stressed the necessity for a "massive overhaul" in GST classifications. 'The GST Council will take the final decision, but from our side, we believe rationalisation is essential,' he said. According to sources, the GST Council is expected to convene following the conclusion of the Parliament's monsoon session, where a potential rationalisation of GST rates for around 150 items, including packaged food products may be taken up for discussion. On the regulatory front, the minister empasized the need to upgrade and align India's food safety regulations with international benchmarks. He pointed out that inconsistencies in domestic standards have led to the rejection of Indian food products in certain global markets. 'There have been instances where popular Indian products, like instant noodles have faced bans in European countries due to regulatory issues. Our goal is to ensure that Indian food safety standards are accepted globally,' Paswan said.
