Neeraj Chopra reclaims top spot in World Rankings, Arshad Nadeem fourth
Neeraj Chopra returned to the top of the World Rankings in the latest list released on the official website of the World Athletics this week. Neeraj, the reigning world champion in men's javelin throw, lost the No. 1 ranking to Anderson Peters on September 17 last year after the Grenadian won the Diamond League Final in Brussels. However, a series of consistent performances has finally helped him overtake Peters. As per the latest list released on Tuesday, Neeraj has 1445 points while Peters is on 1431. Germany's Julian Weber is third with 1407 while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the current Olympic champion, is fourth with 1370. The 27-year-old Neeraj, who will defend his title at the World Championships in Tokyo in September, started his season with an invitational meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where he won with a throw of 84.52m in April. READ | Neeraj Chopra finishes first at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 At his Diamond League opener in Doha, he broke the 90m mark for the first time with a throw of 90.23m, bettering his previous best of 89.94m. After Doha, Neeraj competed at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, where he (84.14m) again finished second to Weber (86.12m). Neeraj finally beat Weber at the Paris Diamond League as the Indian topped the field with his opening throw of 88.16m. On Tuesday, Neeraj recorded his third victory of the season at the Ostrava Golden Spike with 88.16m throw. R Praggnanandhaa Claims UzChess Cup Masters 2025 Title, Climbs To Career-Best Ranking
Last Updated: Praggnanandhaa edged out Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javokhir Sindarov to the top spot in a tie-breaker at Tashkent and moved up to No.4 in the rankings with the triumph. R Praggnanandhaa. (X) Indian GM R Praggnanandhaa won the UZChess Cup Masters 2025 event in Tashkent on Friday as the teenager edged out Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javokhir Sindarov to the top spot in dramatic fashion. The 19-year-old Indian also climbed to No.4 in the World Rankings following his triumph in Uzbekistan as he leapfrogged compatriots D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi. The win also proved to be the Indian's third crown of the year, following triumphs at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament and the Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic in Romania. 'Wrapped up the #UzChessCup Masters with a win in the final round and wins in tie breaks," Praggnanandhaa posted on social media platform X, foremrly Twitter, following the nerve-wrecking victory. 'Tiebreaks were crazy indeed. Grateful for all the support that I have received so far," he added. 'Onto my next challenge to Croatia," the Indian GM's update read. Praggnanandhaa began the final day trailing local favourite Nodirbek Abdusattorov by one point and Javokhir Sindarov by half a point. A crucial victory over Abdusattorov in the final round allowed him to tie with both players at 5.5 points at the conclusion of the round-robin stage. Erigaisi missed the chance to create a four-way tie after drawing with Aravindh Chithambaram. In the first round of tiebreaks, a double round-robin blitz, all three players ended with two points each. Abdusattorov and Sindarov drew both their games, while Praggnanandhaa won both with white but lost with black. In the second tiebreak, Praggnanandhaa drew with Abdusattorov with white and defeated Sindarov with black. Sindarov's win over Abdusattorov secured the title for the Indian. First Published:

World Rankings: Springboks, Ireland to lose ground to New Zealand or France
The Springboks are set to have their lead at the top cut over the next few weeks. The 2025 rugby test season is officially back in action and it comes with huge implications for the Springboks, All Blacks, Ireland and France. The Springboks kick off their season with an entertaining historic home fixture against the Barbarians. Thereafter, they face Georgia before playing two tests against Italy. Meanwhile, the All Blacks and France are set for a three-match test series against France. Whilst, the British & Irish Lions are on tour to Australia. So, this has big implications for the top four. Let's break it down. The Springboks cannot add any ranking points to their total due to the nature of their opponents. Firstly, the Barbarians are not regarded as a test nation. So, no ranking points are up for grabs for the world champions in their opening test match. Meanwhile, both Georgia (11th) and Italy (10th) are to far below the Boks for points to be awarded to them. Meaning, the Springboks will remain on 92.78 points until the end of the July test series window. Meanwhile, the mighty All Blacks take on the Flamboyant French. The All Blacks currently sit second on 90.36 points. Whilst, France is currently ranked fourth with a points total of 89.51. Just behind Ireland 89.83, who currently occupy third spot. Now, to put this in context both the Springboks and Ireland cannot add to their World Rankings points in June and July. This is because the Irish are not in action due to the British & Irish Lions series in Australia. Therefore, New Zealand and France have a chance to close the gap on the Springboks. NZ can cut the lead at the top and France can leapfrog Ireland and NZ with a victory. A win for the All Blacks by less than seven in the first test will see them gain 0.62 points which would place them on 90.98, just 1.80 behind the Boks. A win by 15 or more points will result in the All Blacks gaining 0.92 points. Thus, reaching 91.29 points after the first test. They are currently 2.42 points behind the Springboks. Whereas a French win is worth a lot more – 1.38 points to be exact. If France win the first test they will leapfrog Ireland and NZ will drop to fourth. In this scenario, they will have 90.90 points. In the most unlikely scenario, if France win by 15 or more they will gain 2.08 and be on 91.59 after the first test. In summary, the Springboks and Ireland cannot add to their World Rankings points total. However, NZ and France can close the gap on the Boks and the Irish. The South African will analyse and update this situation with each test result. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. QS world univ rankings: MU leaps to 664th spot
Mumbai: Mumbai University has made a significant jump in the latest QS World University Rankings 2026, climbing to the 664th position from last year's 711-720 band. Among Indian universities participating in the QS rankings, the university has risen to the 17th place, improving from 20th last year. The university, which has scored high on employment outcomes in this edition of the rankings, has seen a consistent rise in its performance over the past five years. Among traditional universities in the country, MU is ranked second. On the other hand, it took a beating in the scores in faculty-student ratio this year, among other things. The QS World Rankings for global universities was released on Wednesday. Among Mumbai institutions, IIT Bombay is the only institution to make it to the top 150, with a 129th rank, despite slipping by 11 positions from last year's edition. Last year, MU was ranked 52 in South Asia. MU, in a statement, issued on Wednesday, called the rankings 'historic', even as it is gradually inching towards the top 500 institutions globally. As per QS report, the university scored highest—91 units—in employment outcomes, followed by citations per faculty at 53.7 and 41.3 in sustainability and 31.5 in employer's reputation among others. In fact, the employment outcomes have jumped from 70.5 units in 2024 rankings to 91 in this one and the scores in citations per faculty, too, has doubled in this period. The lowest score, though, in single digit, was given for faculty-student ratio (4.7) and having international students (4.3) and faculty (3.0), though the performance in these parameters, too, has improved. Vice-chancellor Ravindra Kulkarni said the rankings are contributory efforts by every stakeholder of MU in research and development. "We will continue to strive for even higher rankings in the future. We have initiated the University Department Ranking Framework to support this goal. We anticipate significant positive changes in our future rankings due to the increasing number of international students, our commitment to sustainable development and ongoing faculty recruitment offers," he said.

Friday's Second Round Coverage Begins at 6:30 a.m. ET on Peacock, Shifts to NBC and Continues on Peacock at 1 p.m. ET 'He's not been himself at all today. His stats are bad and he's hit a lot of poor shots for him with some uncharacteristic mistakes.' – Paul McGinley on Scottie Scheffler (+3, T-51st) 'He's doing it with the putter. He leads the field in strokes gained-putting. That's what it takes to keep a round going and stay bogey-free.' – Gary Koch on J.J. Spaun (-4, Leader) 'I don't think Rory played that badly. He scored badly. He didn't glue it together on that back nine like you need to at a U.S. Open.' – McGinley on Rory McIlroy (+4, T-66th) Mini Episodes of the GOLF Channel Podcast with Rex & Lav Post Nightly STAMFORD, Conn. – June 12, 2025 – NBC Sports presented first round coverage of the 125th U.S. Open from Oakmont Country Club on USA Network and Peacock, including on-site post-round coverage on Golf Central Live From the U.S. Open on GOLF Channel. Friday's coverage begins at 6:30 a.m. ET on Peacock, continues at 1 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, and wraps up exclusively on Peacock at 7 p.m. ET. 125th U.S. Open – First Round Leaderboard ON OAKMONT Brandel Chamblee on the conditions at Oakmont: 'The winds were down this morning, maybe the course was a little bit softer, but very quickly it turned from gentle to brutal. We only have a handful of players under par.' Brad Faxon on Oakmont: 'It's the most feared course in the world…These players have to be tenacious because every single part of your game is challenged.' Notah Begay III on Oakmont: 'There are so many holes here that can visually keep you off balance. You have to do your homework, and you have to trust your numbers and lines…You have to take what the course gives you. The key is to not compound your mistakes.' Chamblee on the first round: 'I'd say this is like a Shakespearean tragedy really after day one. This had sort of all the colors of Macbeth, in particular. If you look at that leaderboard, you're like, 'What in the heck is going on? Oakmont has seriously thrown us a curveball.' That's because it seriously threw a curveball to the top ten players in the world as it relates to the World Rankings…We've been talking for three days about how Oakmont brings out the best in the best, and today it brought out the worst in the best.' ON SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER (+3, T-49th) Paul McGinley on Scheffler: 'He's like a marathon runner. He knows how to pace himself. There's also a little bit of an intimidation factor going on. He's so highly regarded by his peers and he's a hell of a competitor.' Dan Hicks: 'It has been a year since he's opened up an event with an over-par round. That came at last year's U.S. Open, a one-over 71.' McGinley: 'The way he opened up the first few holes, you thought this was going to be a Rolls Royce performance from him. He's not been himself at all today. His stats are bad and he's hit a lot of poor shots for him with some uncharacteristic mistakes.' ON J.J. SPAUN (-4, Leader) Gary Koch on Spaun: 'He's doing it with the putter. He leads the field in strokes gained-putting and he's only missed one putt inside of 15-feet today. When you get those par putts, and he's made a bunch of them, that's what it takes to keep a round going and stay bogey-free.' Spaun to Kira K. Dixon following his bogey-free 66: 'It's been a breakout year for me. I'm starting to believe in the things I can do. My finish at the PLAYERS was sort of eye-opening to me, to have that confidence to play in the biggest of stages. I'm starting to get comfortable again and this week has gotten off to a great start.' McGinley on Spaun: 'As he said himself brilliantly in his interview, 'I kept the ball in front of me and I putted well.' That's the U.S. Open DNA there.' ON RORY MCILROY (+4, T-62nd) McGinley: 'I don't think Rory played that badly. He scored badly. He didn't glue it together on that back nine like you need to at a U.S. Open. Six-over for nine holes is really going to hurt you at a U.S. Open.' ON JON RAHM (-1, T-6th) McGinley on Rahm: 'I thought Jon Rahm was fantastic. I thought it was a really poor score, particularly for the way he drove the ball. He should've done better…nonetheless, he's right there. He looks primed. He certainly got a giddy up from his performance at the PGA. I think that's given him a renewed belief that he can win these majors again.' ON JORDAN SPIETH (E, T-11th) Faxon: 'When he's putting well, it looks so easy. When he's missing them, it looks so hard. I think that's why we love watching him.' Smylie Kaufman: 'The ball-striking was there today for Jordan. He just needed a putt or two to fall.' ON SHANE LOWRY (+9, T-134th) Notah Begay III on his eagle hole-out on No. 3 after starting six-over through 11 holes: 'That's a look of, 'I hate this game (laughs).'' Steve Sands: 'That might be the most subdued reaction to an eagle hole-out you'll ever see from a guy like Shane Lowry.'
