Emirates wins 'Best Long-Haul Airline' at Telegraph Travel Awards 2025
Emirates has once again claimed the top spot as the 'Best Long Haul Airline' at The Telegraph Travel Awards 2025. The airline was voted the best long-haul carrier in the world by 20,000 Telegraph Travel readers. The award ceremony, held recently in London, saw Helen Breen, Emirates' Leisure Sales Manager in the UK, accept the award on behalf of the airline. Emirates continues to be the airline of choice for customers worldwide and was recognised this month as the '2025's Most Recommended Global Brand' by YouGov. It was also the only airline to be featured on the top 10 global list. Over the past three consecutive years, Telegraph Travel has recognised Emirates' outstanding travel experiences, awarding the airline with the 'Best Long Haul Airline' in 2023 and 2025. In 2024, Emirates was also named the 'World's Best Airline,' ranking first amongst 90 global carriers in a comprehensive consumer study, with ratings calculated from more than 30 criteria such as punctuality, baggage allowance, route network, quality of home airport, age of fleet, value of rewards programme and in-flight meals. These are the best airlines of 2025 – and no US carrier made the list. Here's why.
Skytrax recently released its World's Best Airline Awards of 2025 – also called the "Oscars of the aviation industry" – with Qatar Airways scoring the top spot for the ninth time and no U.S. airlines making the list. Since 1999, the aviation rankings organization has determined the annual awards based on results from the largest airline passenger satisfaction survey. For this year's list, the global survey was conducted from September 2024 to May 2025, with the winners announced on June 17. "We welcomed back a large number of previous winners and were also delighted to see new faces and airlines represented here today," said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, in a statement. "As is indicated by so many former winning airlines being present, quality consistency is clearly well recognised by customers when they vote for these airlines." Not only did Qatar Airways win World's Best Airline, but also Best Airline in the Middle East, World's Best Business Class and Best Business Class Airline Lounge. "This recognition is far more than an award, it is a celebration of the passion, precision and purpose that defines who we are as an airline," Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said in the release. Airlines based in the Middle East and Asia dominated the top 10, with many repeat winners like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Emirates, while no U.S. carriers made it into the top 20. Here are the top 20 airlines of 2025, according to Skytrax: Qatar Airways Singapore Airlines Cathay Pacific Emirates ANA All Nippon Airways Turkish Airlines Korean Air Air France Japan Airlines Hainan Airlines Swiss International Air Lines EVA Air British Airways Qantas Airways Lufthansa Virgin Atlantic Saudi Arabian Airlines STARLUX Airlines Air Canada Iberia U.S. carriers were absent from a majority of the Skytrax awards. However, two made it onto lists: Delta Air Lines scored the Best Airline Staff Service in North America, and JetBlue Airways was the sixth Best Regional Airline for 2025. (Regional airline awards are for those with mostly domestic flights and international ones up to six hours.) "This isn't just a ranking problem. It's a reputation and business problem," said Anton Radchenko, aviation expert and founder of air passenger rights company AirAdvisor. "The reason U.S. airlines are failing to crack the top 10 isn't because they're incapable; it's because they're prioritizing margins over meaningful passenger experience." A 2024 report by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found major U.S. airlines generating billions in revenue from charging "sky high junk fees," such as checked bags and seat assignments, to passengers. Between 2018 and 2023, seat reservation fees made a combined $12.4 billion for American, Delta, United, Frontier and Spirit. "U.S. carriers need to understand that international passengers and, increasingly, Americans too, expect more than just an on-time flight," said Radchenko, adding that they should invest in improving the traveler experience instead. "Travelers may not buy tickets based on awards, but they feel the difference, and they vote every day with their wallets and loyalty, he continued. "Until U.S. airlines close the gap on these fundamentals, we'll continue to see them locked out of the global top tier.' This Airline Was Just Named the Best in the World—and It's a 9-time Winner
For many travelers, flying has become little more than a way to reach a destination—efficient, often impersonal, and rarely memorable. But a select group of airlines continue to invest in the idea that the journey still matters. With refined cabins, thoughtful amenities, and attentive service, they aim to make time in the air feel less like transit and more like an experience. Each year, the Skytrax World Airline Awards, often referred to as 'the Oscars of the aviation industry,' recognize the carriers that deliver on that promise. First launched in 1999, the awards are based on global passenger surveys and are considered among the most respected honors in commercial aviation. At the June 17, 2025, ceremony in France, Qatar Airways was named the World's Best Airline for the second consecutive year and the ninth time in Skytrax history. Qatar Airways rose to the top out of more than 325 airlines that were included in the survey results. According to Skytrax's award and survey methodology, the ranking is 'not restricted to member airlines or a pre-selected choice of airline, and any airline in the world can be nominated. The focus of the survey is for customers to make their own, personal choices as to which airline they consider to be the best, underlining the brand as the Passenger's Choice Awards.' 'Being named the World's Best Airline for the ninth time is an extraordinary honor," Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said in the Skytrax press release. "Being continuously recognized as a 5-Star Airline further underscores our mission: to set new benchmarks for the industry and to ensure that our passengers feel genuinely cared for, valued and inspired to return.' Qatar Airways, which is the flag carrier of Qatar and is headquartered in Doha, was also named the Best Airline in the Middle East. Qatar Airways' largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, is a flier favorite. It has two floors and one of the world's largest on-board lounges. Its business class—branded as Qsuites and includes a series of private suites with sliding doors—was named the World's Best Business Class, while the airline's Al Mourjan Garden Lounge in Doha was named the World's Best Business Class Airline Lounge. Singapore Airlines, which was No. 1 in 2023 and has won the award five times, held onto second place for the second year in a row. In third place for 2025 was Cathay Pacific, while Emirates came in at No. 4 and All Nippon Airways (ANA) at No. 5.

'2nd isn't a bad thing': Singapore Airlines named world's second best airline for 2025
Photo: Depositphotos/Wirestock SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been ranked the world's second-best airline for 2025 by United Kingdom-based airline consultancy Skytrax. This year's 'Oscars of the aviation industry' was announced during a gala ceremony on June 17 at the Paris Air Show, in the Air and Space Museum's art deco Hall of Eight Columns of Le Bourget airport. In 2023, SIA was named the World's Best Airline for the fifth time. The number one spot this year went to Qatar Airways, marking its ninth win. Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and ANA (All Nippon Airways) came in third to fifth, respectively. SIA also took the top spot for this year's World's Best Cabin Crew, World's Best First Class Airline, and World's Best Business Class Airline, while placing third in the World's Best Economy Class Airline. Singapore's flagship carrier also scooped the accolade for the Best Airline in Asia. Meanwhile, its low-cost arm, Scoot, was awarded the World's Best Long-Haul Low-Cost Airline. Qatar's Qsuite blows SQ's business class out of the water any day of the week.' Despite being named the best business class airline, some commenters noted how 'cramped' SIA's seats have become, with one saying its 'business class is getting worse and worse as the years go by'. 'I don't like how claustrophobic the new A380 seat is and how it lacks privacy, so we get the worst of both worlds there. Also uncomfortable to sleep on. Hopefully, the new 2026 seat isn't as narrow as the current A380 seat,' he added. Another added, 'Hate how you have to get out of your seat to turn it into a bed in SQ. Plus the very cramped footwell, and the usually ridiculously high prices.' Still, one commenter pointed out, 'Anyway, 2nd isn't a bad thing in my opinion. It provides additional drive to SQ to improve, which is needed.' /TISG See also HSBC's high-stakes gamble: The future of banking in Asia Read also: Scoot to take over Jetstar Asia's Okinawa and Labuan Bajo routes Featured image by Depositphotos

Qatar Airways is the ‘world's best' airline, while Qantas makes huge comeback
There's no holding back Qatar Airways. The Doha-based carrier has been named the World's Best Airline for 2025 for a record-breaking ninth time in the annual Skytrax's World Airline Awards – dubbed 'the Oscars of the aviation industry'. The awards were held on June 17 at Paris Air Show, in the Air and Space Museum at the Hall of Eight Columns of Le Bourget airport, where roughly 500 guests attended from airlines across the world. Singapore Airlines nabbed second spot, while Cathay Pacific secured third place, Emirates fourth and ANA All Nippon Airways in fifth. Australia's national carrier Qantas had an impressive comeback. It climbed its way back from 24th place last year, to 14th this year, and also took out Best Airline in Australia and Pacific. Meanwhile, Qatar, a 5-star carrier, received three other awards – retaining the title of Best Airline in the Middle East, World's Best Business Class and Best Business Class Airline Lounge. 'Being named the World's Best Airline by Skytrax for the ninth time is an extraordinary honour,' Qatar Airways Group chief executive officer, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said. 'This recognition is far more than an award, it is a celebration of the passion, precision and purpose that defines who we are as an airline.' Mr Al-meer said to retain this title in a highly competitive and ever-evolving global industry reflects the 'relentless efforts across every part of the business'. '[From] the frontline to behind-the-scenes, the passion and commitment of our people continue to set new standards in aviation'. 'These accolades reaffirm our ambition not only to lead, but to redefine what exceptional service means in aviation'. The Skytrax awards are based on the votes of travellers across over 100 nationalities. The online customer survey was done from September 2024 to May 2025, and any airline in the world can be nominated. All survey entries were screened to identify IP and user information, with duplicate, suspect and ineligible entries deleted. Over 325 airlines feature in the survey results. Qatar's big win comes as it partners with Virgin Australia after the Australian Government gave its tick of approval. Qatar Airways now has a minority 25 per cent stake in the Aussie carrier, in turn expanding Virgin's flight network. Last week, the first Qatar Airways-operated Virgin Australia flight to Doha took off from Sydney following the new deal. It marks the start of a 'wet lease' arrangement, which will connect Australians with more than 170 destinations through Qatar's global network, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa. How did the Aussie airlines do Qantas returned to the Skytrax awards being named the Best Airline in Australia / Pacific, with Virgin Australia winning the award for the Best Airline Staff Service in Australia / Pacific, and Best Regional Airline award for this region. Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said the award reflects the airline's 'ongoing commitment' to delivering for its customers and is testament to the 'exceptional work of our people'. 'I want to sincerely thank our incredible team of more than 29,000 people around the world, who bring such passion and pride to the work they do every single day. This award belongs to them,' Ms Hudson said. 'Project Sunrise is on the horizon and our historic fleet renewal is well underway, with the first Qantas A321XLR set to land in Australia in the coming weeks. 'This is all part of the biggest fleet renewal program in our history, and the investments we are making in both new and existing aircraft are set to transform the flying experience for the millions of customers who fly with us every year.' Around the world Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines won World's Best First Class, followed by Emirates and Air France. Virgin Atlantic took out World's Best Premium Economy.
