WWE SmackDown takeaways: Wyatt Sicks win tag titles, Jelly Roll tosses Logan Paul
WWE Friday Night SmackDown on July 11 took place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and featured a tag team match between Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo against Jimmy Uso and LA Knight. The final weekly show before Saturday Night's Main Event and Evolution saw R-Truth pick up a quick win over Aleister Black and Alexa Bliss win a fatal 4-way match. Tiffany Stratton and Trish Stratus went back and forth on the mic, which also led to a brawl between Jade Cargill and Naomi. This episode felt very rushed, and there really wasn't all that much to take away from it. Here's what stood out the most: Wyatt Sicks win tag team titles After earning No. 1 contender status, the Wyatt Sicks got their tag team title shot against the Street Profits. Montez Ford didn't seem scared of the spooky group as he repeatedly mocked his opponents early in the match. One weird moment in this one was when Angelo Dawkins was putting the screws to Joe Gacy, only to abandon a pin at a one count to call Dexter Lumis into the ring just so he could throw him out of it to set up a dive to the outside. Other than that, it was a solid match that earned chants from the crowd. Ford hit his signature frog splash, but couldn't get to the pin thanks to Eric Rowan pulling him out of the ring. A moment later, Lumis and Gacy connected with a double team maneuver to score the pin. Well, if you want to make the Wyatt Sicks seem like an unbeatable mythical force as they have been presented, I guess that means they have to win matches. The Street Profits most recent title reign never really got into the next gear due to shoddy booking. Week in and week out, WWE has seemed to struggle with booking the tag team division. Either they get no attention, or it's been multi-team brawls or multi-team matches with constant interference. It's felt like the plan has been to just kick the can down the road to the next episode in hopes of figuring it out as they go. Booking the Wyatt Sicks is already hard enough. Good luck doing it with them holding the titles, because they're an act that doesn't need gold to be special – much like Bray Wyatt. Jelly Roll comes to Randy Orton's aid to stop Logan Paul Musician Jelly Roll, who was born in Nashville, treated the fans to a musical performance. That is, until Logan Paul made his presence felt by interrupting and unplugging equipment. Paul then met Jelly Roll in the ring to cut a promo on the musician and announce the signing of his podcast deal with WWE. Jelly Roll checked Paul, and after the two got face-to-face, Randy Orton joined the party. Orton, with veins popping through his forehead, yelled at Paul to show some respect to Jelly Roll. Then Orton was hit with a Claymore out of nowhere. Drew McIntyre attacked and was promptly escorted away by security. Paul took the opportunity to inflict more damage on Orton. That's when Jelly Roll got physical and tossed Paul aside. Paul then went down the entrance aisle and destroyed Jelly Roll's musical equipment. Rumors of Jelly Roll's physical involvement in WWE made the rounds before the show, and now we know it's looking like Logan Paul will be his first foe in the ring. With Orton and McIntyre involved, maybe we get a tag team match that can allow Jelly Roll to be protected in a match while the real workers carry the load. We'll see where it goes. LA Knight attacked after winning tag team match This week's main event was a tag team match created after the opening promo segment. Jimmy Uso teamed up with LA Knight against Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo. It was an interesting pairing ahead of their matches on Saturday Night's Main Event. Sikoa leaned heavily into his disgust for his brother Jimmy, showing off his typical fantastic heel work. Mateo attempted to capitalize on what Sikoa started, but a hot tag to Knight flipped the script of the match. Knight cleaned house, then tagged Uso back in before landing his signature second-rope elbow drop. Uso hit a splash, but Sikoa quickly regained the upper hand. Knight quickly re-entered the ring to even the score again until he was distracted by Paul Heyman. Knight ate a big boot from Talla Tonga, but Uso rolled up Sikoa from behind to score the quick three count. After the match Knight hit Sikoa with a BFT, and then turned his focus back to Heyman. Unfortunately, Bron Breakker appeared from behind to spear him through the ring, and Bronson Reed added a Tsunami. Knight will now enter Saturday's match against Seth Rollins compromised. This was a decent enough main event, which served just to set up the post-match shenanigans. How will Knight rebound from the attack and then deal with Rollins' team at SNME?

WWE SmackDown results, highlights (July 11): The Wyatt Sicks win tag-team gold
Nashville hosted a chaotic night of "WWE SmackDown" before the massive weekend of pro wrestling events. Despite all the action taking place down south, not every title could fit on Saturday Night's Main Event. Take the WWE Tag Team titles as Exhibit A. Super powered WWE did it. The Wyatt Sicks are the new WWE Tag Team Champions after being booked to be impossible to defeat. In a general sense, The Street Profits absolutely should still be tag team champions. But WWE booked themselves into the corner where this change had to happen, otherwise the Wyatts would be buried by a singular loss. The match was fine. It was nothing special, especially compared to everything else the division has to offer. Again, this was more about hitting the story beats properly, and now it will be a matter of presumably picking off The Wyatt Sicks one by one to dethrone them. There still hasn't been an explanation why they would even want to be champions, but hey, this is where we are. Advertisement 👑 Uncrowned Gem of the Night 👑 Why not set the stage immediately, huh? "WWE SmackDown" cooked right out of the gate with a fatal-4-way match between members of the women's tag teams competing for the title at WWE Evolution on Sunday. It was Sol Ruca vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Kairi Sane vs. Roxanne Perez. There was no way this could be bad, right? Right. It ruled and was the Uncrowned Gem of the Night. OK, in all transparency, this was an excellent display for NXT's Ruca, and not just because she was in the match, but she felt like it was supposed to be a highlight for her. It was certainly that and more. Everything she did with any of her three opponents was flawless, and the double Sol-Snatcher was sick. I didn't love her looking like an idiot at the end when distracted by Charlotte Flair and the unnecessary outside scuffle, but that's just how it goes. The finish came right after Ruca got done taking care of business, as Sane went for the In-Sane Elbow on Bliss. Flair's new frenemy countered the dive with a double kick and hit the Sister Abigail DDT for the win. Bliss is just wildly over right now, and if this isn't a launching pad to get gold around her waist again, then WWE is wasting its time with her. Advertisement 🥴 WTF of the Night WWE went through a time machine to the early 2010s in Nashville. Where do we even start with the Jelly Roll appearance? The artist came out midway through the show to start performing. I love music, but this wasn't for me simply because of the genre, so it began on a missable foot. It was unclear whether this would be part of an angle or if WWE would merely allow a small concert to take place. Ultimately, it was an angle — maybe? This was a cluster. Logan Paul, the perfect heat magnet for this moment, came out to disrupt the sing-along and lambast Jelly Roll with all the claims that can be made about him as a wrestler. Clout-chasing, not belonging in the ring, saying it was "his world," etc. Advertisement He landed a solid roast line, and then a fired-up Randy Orton arrived to verbally unload on Paul, only to get kicked with a Claymore by Drew McIntyre. Paul then continued the assault on Orton, and Jelly Roll grabbed and threw him out of the ring. What? The McIntyre and Orton element was shoe-horned into this purely for Saturday Night's Main Event "hype," but it all felt so weird. And in a way, like it's setting up for ... Paul vs. Jelly Roll? This whole segment served no one. Now, Jelly Roll will be in Orton's corner against McIntyre. Alright, I guess. 👍 FRIDAY NIGHT FIRE 👍 LA Knight is still as over as ever, but he was a part of the first bit of this show's overall random nature. He and Jimmy Uso beat Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo in a tag team match that was set up by the opening segment. Knight cut a great promo (as always) on Seth Rollins and his boys, which led to the Paul Heyman interruption before Sikoa and his squad followed. I don't know why, but it led to Uso coming to Knight's aid before he got attacked by the four Samoans. The match was fine, and the Knight-Uso duo got along better than I'd have expected. Their win came via a Uso roll-up on Sikoa after outside distractions from a returning Heyman, who teased Knight with a call to Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. This was all the set-up needed to help Knight get the win at Saturday Night's Main Event tomorrow, because Sikoa was pissed at Heyman. We'll see if that comes to fruition, but either way, it was an interesting way to end "WWE SmackDown." 🤷 IT HAPPENED 🤷 "WWE SmackDown's" return to two hours is already suffering from the "cram-in" effect. Like the Jelly Roll segment, Trish Stratus and Tiffany Stratton's segment was almost the exact same thing. (Minus the musical guest element.) Advertisement It was essentially a complete copy and paste of the infamous Stratton-Flair promo segment before WrestleMania 41. Wade Barrett mediated, and they exchanged playful barbs as if they were never friends the last time we saw them. The Nashville crowd did not react to anything either said before Naomi came out to tease her eventual cash-in. Can you guess what happened within seconds? Yep. Jade Cargill attacked her for a pull-apart brawl on the ramp. No real substance anywhere to be found. 👎 DOWN & OUT 👎 Ron Killings beat Aleister Black in their singles match. That should be a positive, and is without context. However, with context, this doesn't feel like the right direction to go with Killings after the hot angle WWE had in the palm of its hand with his release saga. Advertisement Killings won via a roll-up after he brought a chair into the fold, and they each tried to get disqualified by using the weapon. It was a three-minute match at most, and Black angrily tried to attack Killings on their way out of the ring. I guess this is how we get to Damian Priest doing something again, because they came to blows afterward. 👑 This show was a scattered sprint more than it was a race. Without that Fatal 4-Way to kick things off in the ring, we'd be in rough territory. I give this show a Crown score of: 6/10.👑

WWE SmackDown results (7/11/2025): Wyatt Sicks becomes the new Tag Team Champions
Photo via Getty Images Wyatt Sicks becomes the new WWE Tag Team Champion. Previously, the Street Profits held the Championship belt for 119 days. Tonight's match at SmackDown was their sixth defense. The team lost the belt to Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis of the Wyatt Sicks. Erick Rowan played a major role in changing the course of the match towards the end. Erick Rowan aids Wyatt Sicks in ending Street Profits' Tag Team Championship reign Erick Rowan played a major role in today's Tag Team Championship match. The Street Profits kicked off the match on a good note. Angelo Dawkins went head-on against Joe Gacy. The former pushed the latter to the corner of the ring. Initially, the Profits dominated the ring. However, Wyatt Sicks soon took over. Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis took their turns to land blows on the former champions. Both teams landed significant strikes on each other. The match shuffled in favor of both teams at regular intervals. Montez Ford showcased some brilliant moves with some high-flying landings from the heavens on Lumis. This was the point where Erick Rowan played a major role in changing the course of the match. With the landing by Ford, the wrestler himself was hurt a bit. He was taking a moment to reach Lumis and end the game. However, Ford was distracted as Rowan cleared him out of the ring. Even though Dawkins rushed at Rowan to clear him out of the way, it was too late. The distraction gave both Lumis and Gacy enough time to buckle up. Ford once again goes up top and tries to land a frog splash on Lumis. But he misses. Gacy and Lumis took control and landed a powerbomb on Ford. The Wyatt Sicks brought home the Tag Team Championship belt. Wyatt Sicks' win sends a message to the Tag Team Division The change in the championship holders will have a significant impact across the entire tag team championship. In a follow-up segment, a new team of Andrade and Fenix made their presence official. Their appearance in the backstage segment might be an indication of a future collision with the newly crowned champions. Tonight's match saw all the members of the Sicks present. Erick Rowan's presence played a major role in securing the win. Uncle Howdy and Nikki Cross were also present outside the ring. They entered once Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis claimed the championship belt. Also Read: Will Gunther turn babyface at Saturday Night's Main Event? WWE SmackDown takeaways: CM Punk checks John Cena; KOTR, QOTR tournaments continue
WWE SmackDown takeaways: CM Punk checks John Cena; KOTR, QOTR tournaments continue WWE Friday Night SmackDown on June 13 took place at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky., and featured several King and Queen of the Ring opening-round matches. The first Friday show after Money in the Bank saw John Cena appear multiple times throughout the show as he struggled to deal with Ron Killings. The Wyatt Sicks picked up a win over Motor City Machine Guns, Jacob Fatu cut a promo on Solo Sikoa, and Naomi sent Tiffany Stratton a clear warning message. Much like Raw this week, this was a solid SmackDown show from beginning to end with solid matches, promos, and backstage segments. Check out the top takeaways from this episode: Randy Orton advances in King of the Ring Tournament The first match of the night was a King of the Ring Tournament fatal four-way match between Randy Orton, LA Knight, Carmelo Hayes and Aleister Black. This one was fun, until it wasn't. Black and Hayes got things going at a fast clip by flying all over the arena. Orton and Knight got into the mix by immediately going for their finishers. The match kept a high pace of action throughout, keeping everyone entertained. Then, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker appeared. Reed pulled Knight off the middle rope, and then Breakker hit him with a spear. Hayes went to the top rope but was caught mid-air by an RKO. Orton then pinned Knight for the three-count. Alright, WWE. Enough is enough with the interference. Sure, Breakker had reason to attack Knight since he did the same during his KOTR match, and there's a story there, but that's beside the point. Every KOTR or QOTR match to this point finished due to interference. This match in particular was cooking with grease, but then interference ruined it. That same finishing sequence could have happened without Breakker or Reed. It's frustrating to see the same thing happen repeatedly, and luckily, this didn't happen with the other tournament matches later on. Jade Cargill advances in Queen of the Ring Tournament The second match of the night was a Queen of the Ring Tournament fatal four-way match between Jade Cargill, Nia Jax, Piper Niven and Michin. Jax and Niven formed an alliance during this match to handle the other two. They launched Cargill over the commentary table for a nasty-looking bump that took out Wade Barrett too. When Michin had her moments, she sped things up with her offense to keep the energy high. Eventually, the alliance between Jax and Niven broke down. Niven rammed Jax through the timekeeper's barricade, and then flattened Michin with a splash from the second rope. However, Cargill was right there to catch Niven with Jaded to score the pin. They did it. No interference! The four women scheduled for the match got to the finish all by themselves! This match wasn't nearly as good as the men's offering before it, but because it was the first KOTR or QOTR match to finish clean, it deserves an award. John Cena can't handle the truth, gets verbally torched by CM Punk John Cena was straight up not having a good time in Lexington. Cena took the mic to kick off the show to cut a promo about his master plan to become a 17-time champion. He even named his wrestling Mount Rushmore which consisted of John Cena, John Cena, John Cena and John Cena. Shoutout to Dylan. Cody Rhodes joined him in the ring to clap back at him about his greatness claims, dubbing him "John Rushmore." Rhodes also reminded Cena that he pinned him in the center of the ring at MITB. Randy Orton and LA Knight joined the party, each offering scathing words for Cena. The champ decided he had enough and left the ring. That's when the first attack from Ron Killings took place as he blindsided Cena at the entrance. Cena was pissed and yelled at SmackDown GM Nick Aldis backstage. We couldn't hear the argument, but it looked like Cena was a ticked-off baseball skipper yelling at an ump. Hilarious. Later in the show, Cena stormed back to the ring and demanded Killings come to the ring for a fight. He got CM Punk instead. Punk took the mic and went in on Cena. It was a classic Punk undressing. Punk said Cena can't beat him, so he'll take it upon himself to stop Cena's plan to ruin wrestling. Punk then accused Cena of copying Punk's old playbook, when he wanted to take the title home before leaving WWE over a decade ago. Punk said he's going to make Cena's retirement run watchable, and then rejected Cena's Mount Rushmore claim by naming Terry Funk, Harley Race, Bret Hart and Eddie Guerrero. Throughout the promo, Punk mentioned "truth" more than once, foreshadowing what was coming. Yep, Killings attacked Cena from behind for the second time after Punk left the ring. After the second attack, Aldis granted Killings' request for a match against Cena next week. Fantastic stuff all around, throughout the show with Cena. Multiple appearances in the ring and backstage segments. Punk delivered a tremendous promo, and Killings was excellent. Alexa Bliss advances in Queen of the Ring Tournament The next fatal four-way in the QOTR tournament was between Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Alba Fyre and Candice LeRae. This tournament match felt more like a two-woman show than any other first-round match. Flair and Bliss had the biggest moments of the match, and LeRae quickly felt like a complete afterthought. Fyre had a few moments, but she was not a believable potential winner as she was thrown into the match at the last minute when Chesea Green wasn't available (that was a solid backstage segment with Zelina Vega, too). The finishing sequence was interesting. Flair caught Fyre in a Figure Eight, but then Bliss grabbed LeRae for a Sister Abigail DDT. Bliss pinned LeRae while staring at Flair. The three count came before the tap from Fyre. This was the least interesting match of the first round. Bliss and Flair were the only realistic options to advance, which took away from the excitement the other matches had presented. Having said that, the finish was good, but it came down to the two obvious choices. Cody Rhodes advances in King of the Ring Tournament The main event of this week's show was a fatal-four way in the KOTR tournament between Cody Rhodes, Andrade, Damien Preist and Shinsuke Nakamura. This was a stacked lineup. Everyone here had a realistic shot at advancing, even though all eyes were on Rhodes and Priest. Nakamaura came off as the smartest guy in the match from beginning to end. He rolled out of the ring at the start to avoid damage, even though Rhodes took advantage. But later in the match, on more than one spot, he broke up what would have been big double team moves by doing the simple, smart thing. The money-hungry side of TKO reared its head when Rhodes pulled out the Slim Jim-sponsored table from underneath the ring. Nakamura ended up kicking him through it, and Joe Tessitore attempted a play on the brand's "snap into a Slim Jim" tagline. Deep sigh. Anyway, the match continued on with steady action, and came to a close when Rhodes hit a Cross Rhodes on Nakamura. Rhodes winning was the chalk pick, but it's fine. He'll face the winner of the final four-way between Sheamus, Rusev, Bronson Reed and Jey Uso. The interesting pick there would be to see what would happen if Rhodes and Uso had to face off after teaming together at MITB. On the other side of the bracket, the semifinal match between Sami Zayn and Randy Orton will be a fun watch.

WWE SmackDown takeaways: Seth Rollins' crew runs the show; John Cena, Logan Paul set trap
WWE SmackDown takeaways: Seth Rollins' crew runs the show; John Cena, Logan Paul set trap WWE Friday Night SmackDown on June 6 took place at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield, Calif., featuring the team of John Cena and Logan Paul coming face-to-face with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. The go-home episode for Money in the Bank was another typical rush-to-the-finish-line final show before a PLE, complete with a pointless 6-person tag match. Seth Rollins' new faction essentially took over the show, appearing multiple times to deliver promos and disrupt in-ring action. We also saw the Wyatt Sicks strike fear into the entire tag team division and the team of Andrade and Penta put on a fun one against the Creed Brothers. Check out the top takeaways from this episode: Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa trade barbs; Jacob Fatu assists Jimmy Uso In what was the first of many appearances for the still-officially-unnamed group of Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Paul Heyman, the faction took the ring to open the show. Rollins vowed to win MITB while warning others to stay out of their way, or suffer the same fate as Sami Zayn, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns. Enter Solo Sikoa, along with JC Mateo and Jacob Fatu. Sikoa, arguably the best mic worker on the WWE roster right now, tested Rollins' warning while taking shots at Breakker and Reed, comparing them to The Bloodline's second and third men. Rollins chirped back, this time getting Fatu involved. Eventually, they all step to one another, but Sikoa's side exited the ring without getting physical. The crowd started cheering loudly, but it wasn't for Rollins' team. It was because Jimmy Uso appeared from behind to attack, leading to the start of a match against Mateo. The match ended up being very solid, with Uso flying all over Bakersfield. The ending was a surprise. Not only did Uso kick out of Mateo's finisher, but a distraction from Fatu allowed Uso to hit a rollup pin for the victory. Naturally, Mateo vented his frustrations with Fatu to Sikoa. The opening promo was pretty standard "I'm going to win at the PLE" stuff on the surface, but this really served to plant more seeds for the eventual breakup of Fatu from Sikoa and Mateo. It could also lead to any mix and match of the six wrestlers, which would all be entertaining. Giulia assists Zelina Vega, then attacks Women's United States Champion Zelina Vega doesn't have a match at MITB, so she put her title on the line the night before instead. Oh, no. Wait. No, she didn't. She was in a non-title "Bakersfield Brawl" match against Piper Niven, who had Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre with her at ringside. At least they gave Vega a full entrance this week. So, the match itself wasn't bad by any means. Kendo sticks, chairs and tables all got some use here. Vega hit a beautiful counter DDT to smash Niven's face into a chair, but then the numbers game caught up. However, Vega got assistance from an unlikely party in Giulia. With use of a kendo stick, Giulia helped Vega powerbomb Niven through a table for the pin. After, Giulia raised Vega's arm in celebration, only to blindside her and hit her finisher. She then lifted the US title high as Vega was down. Giulia is coming for the US title, and it's a fantastic program for her to be in as she settles into the SmackDown roster. Despite the Vega-Niven match being non-title, everything else here worked well, including the tease for the future match against Giulia for the title. King and Queen of the Ring to return WWE is bringing back King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, as announced by Raw and SmackDown GMs Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis – and the matchups start next week. After the announcement, Jade Cargill made her promise to win the crown, but Charlotte Flair of course, interrupted to say everyone knows there's only one queen of WWE. Short takeaway here, but this is welcome. The King and Queen of the Ring is a staple of the WWE's lineup. My only wish is that they don't force "King" and "Queen" labels on the winners' names as part of a pseudo-gimmick change – unless it just makes sense. Imagine if LA Knight wins. King Knight? Nah. Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss and Stephanie Vaquer win six-woman tag There's only one takeaway from the pointless six-woman tag match featuring all competitors of the women's MITB match: We got to see Stephanie Vaquer's new entrance, and it's incredible. The team of Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss and Vaquer defeated Naomi, Roxanne Perez and Giulia. Sure, there were a few fun moments in the match, and all of the competitors are fantastic, but this was all pointless considering they will all be working against each other at MITB on Saturday. John Cena, Logan Paul lay trap for Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso Taking the ring for the fourth or fifth time was Seth Rollins' crew. This time it was Paul Heyman on the mic cutting a promo on Rollins' behalf for MITB. They were soon joined by Cody Rhodes, followed by Jey Uso – but during Uso's entrance, which was through the concourse and crowd, Rollins and crew exited before the show went to commercial. Rhodes and Uso shared the mic for a mid promo before John Cena entered. Logan Paul then attacked from behind. There were no words exchanged here, just AAs from Cena, and knockout punches and splashes from the top rope by Paul. Cena vowed to continue his plan to ruin wrestling. He said Paul will be the future World Heavyweight Champion. After delivering those words on the mic, the beatdown continued and the crowd started chanting for R-Truth. "You can't handle the truth!" Cena quipped. This only prompted more chants for the recently released wrestler. Good on Bakersfield. Paul grabbed Uso's title and joined Cena in hoisting gold high as the show concluded. Since Rollins worked overtime on SmackDown, his show of strength will likely mean a loss at MITB, but we will know in a few hours. The final segment with Cena, Paul, Rhodes and Uso was alright, but nothing special. Considering this match one of only four announced for the show, here's to hoping it turns out to be better than it has any right to be. We'll likely get a big return appearance too. If Roman Reigns doesn't appear, I'll be surprised.
