Buy a luxury car not to show off but to close deals, says Mercedes fan boy

ONE can only wonder why cars are assets when there is so little value to be derived from it, unlike property, for example, which appreciates in value over time. Sure, having a nice ride is a guilty pleasure that we indulge in, but is it worth the trouble to acquire a ride which is more expensive than the average real estate in land-deficient Kuala Lumpur? Recently, a streetwise man on X argued that having an expensive ride is very important. According to him, it is not about showing off, but creating the vital perception that allows a person to close deals. After all, how could people trust a person who drives a simple budget car? A financially secure individual should be able to acquire a respectable vehicle, and not just any, but the Mercedes Benz E300. Note that this article is not a promotion for said vehicle. 'Perception comes before presentation,' Mercedes Man said, adding that the rich buy a car that saves them time from explaining their business plan to their customers. First impression and perception are everything dalam bisnes. Kalau korang ada meeting dengan someone untuk buat deal, mana yang korang lebih percaya utk jadikan as business partner? – yang bawak Myvi, Saga, X50 atau – yang bawak Mercedez, BMW, Lexus? 🙂‍↔️ — ۟ (@twitmarhaen) July 22, 2025 He added that in the business world, people do not buy a product because it is good, but they buy a product where they believe in the person who could carry it. Trust is established the moment a client sees the individual riding a Mercedes Benz E300, he claims. One can only wonder if the man is simply a successful Mercedes Benz sales personnel. Our thoughts are echoed by netizen @luqmanchun, who claimed he was a good salesman. 'A luxury car is not a sign of success, but a trigger to open the doors of opportunity which are not open to everyone,' Mercedes Man continued. However, netizen @iamthestamp refuted his claim, stating that he would rather trust someone who rode in a Myvi or Saga. According to him, those BMW and Lexus drivers out there are mostly scammers. The words of Mercedes Man in the video are certainly food for thought. But how true is this? Or it is an elaborate sales pitch to sell more Mercedes Benz E300? —July 22, 2025 Main image: @twitmarhaen (X)

Proton claims early order surge for X50

Malaysia's first national car company, Proton Holdings Bhd, has said it received 5,000 bookings for its all-new Proton X50 within the first ten days after it opened its order book in early July. The automaker launched an 'early bird' promotion campaign, which includes a MYR 1,000 (US$ 236) cash rebate for the first 10,000 buyers. The all-new B-segment X50 SUV, based on the Geely Geely Binyou L, will be officially launched in Malaysia this week, along with full pricing details. Proton claims the new model has 245 new dedicated parts that were developed as a result of more than 400,000 man-hours of R&D in collaboration with Geely. Proton confirmed that production is underway at its Tanjong Malim plant in Malaysia, as the company looks to begin deliveries immediately after the model's official launch, with at least the first 5,000 units expected to be delivered to customers by the end of August. The new X50 is powered by Geely's new i-GT 1.5 TD engine, coupled to a 7-speed DCT gearbox, delivering 133 kW of power and 290 Nm of torque. It also comes with an upgraded ADAS Level 2 system. #NSTviral: Video of exchange at zebra crossing sparks debate on road manners

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a motorcyclist stopping at a zebra crossing in the city, only to be honked at by another driver has drawn attention to road manners and the importance of respecting pedestrian crossings in the city. In a video posted by Facebook user driving4dummies, a short reel depicted the motorcyclist giving way to pedestrians before being confronted by a driver. The driver, driving a Proton X50 pulls up beside him, winds down the window, and questions why he stopped, claiming it was unnecessary. "He then repeatedly asks whether he had hit the motorcyclist, suggesting there was no need to give way unless contact was made," he said. Despite the confrontation, the user remains composed and explains that vehicles are legally required to stop when pedestrians are waiting to cross. The driver, however, continues to press the point before eventually driving off. In a caption accompanying the video, driving4dummies urges fellow road users to observe the rules and stop at pedestrian crossings. "I was honked at. I was scolded. But I still stopped. Because I know… every crossing carries a life. "Sometimes it's an elderly person. Sometimes a small child. And sometimes, it's someone I know personally. We stop not because of the rules, but out of respect" he said in the caption accompanying the video. The incident ended on a conciliatory note where in a follow-up post, the Facebook user said he later met the driver, who offered an apology. "I have a chance to meet Brother X50. We greet and forgive, with an open heart. "Maybe through the incident with this Brother X50, we can all pay attention to the zebra crossing issue in Malaysia, a place where there are many people who find it difficult to cross and all this time there are many that 'suffers in silence'. "I also call on the crowd to stop attacking and bullying this X50 brother. Let's not do the same thing but online anyway," he wrote.
