Photo: supplied Otago halfback Dylan Pledger will take his place in the New Zealand Under-20 team to play South Africa in the final of the World Rugby U20 Championship on Sunday morning. The starting XV remains unchanged following an impressive semifinal victory over France. This marks just the second time New Zealand and South Africa have met in a final at this tournament, the first being in 2012 when the Junior Springboks claimed the title on home soil. The game will kick off in Stadio Mario Battaglini in Rovigo, Italy, at 6.30am (NZ time). - APL

Rugby-Winger Feyi-Waboso returns for England against the United States

FILE PHOTO: Rugby Union - Autumn International - England v New Zealand - Allianz Stadium Twickenham, London, Britain - November 2, 2024 England's Immanuel Feyi-Waboso scores their first try Action Images via Reuters/Paul Childs/File photo (Reuters) -Coach Steve Borthwick has selected Immanuel Feyi-Waboso on the wing and could hand debuts to as many as six players when England face the United States in the final match of their summer tour in Washington DC on Saturday. Feyi-Waboso returns from a suspension picked up playing for an England XV against France XV last month, which ruled him out of the back-to-back wins over Argentina in the first two matches on tour. It was his first game since December after injury had curtailed the second half of the season and denied him a potential call-up by the British & Irish Lions. England are without a host of regular players who are in Australia with the Lions, meaning Borthwick has cast his selection net wide. Fullback Joe Carpenter, centre Max Ojomoh and lock Arthur Clark all make their international debuts in the starting XV, while hooker Gabriel Oghre, flyhalf Charlie Atkinson and centre Oscar Beard are set to earn a first cap off the bench. "There's been a great spirit in the squad throughout this tour," Borthwick said. "The players have worked hard for each other and pushed standards every day. Those selected this weekend have earned their chance through their effort and attitude. "We aim to keep building the squad, learn from every experience, and deliver a performance that our supporters can be proud of." Cadan Murley takes his place on the wing and Luke Northmore keeps his spot in the centres to partner Ojomoh. Captain George Ford has a new half-back partner in Jack van Poortvliet, who scored a dramatic late winning try in the 22-17 victory over Argentina last Saturday. Ford's 101 caps is more than the entire rest of the starting XV put together (96). Curtis Langdon is the hooker, with props Bevan Rodd and Asher Opoku-Fordjour either side of him, while the second row is made up of Alex Coles and Clark. Alex Dombrandt is at number eight, with flanker Chandler Cunningham-South and Guy Pepper making up the back row. It is just the second time England will play the United States on American soil, having last toured the country in 2001. They have won all seven previous meetings with their hosts. England team: 15–Joe Carpenter, 14–Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, 13–Luke Northmore, 12–Max Ojomoh, 11–Cadan Murley, 10–George Ford (captain), 9–Jack van Poortvliet, 8–Alex Dombrandt, 7–Guy Pepper, 6–Chandler Cunningham-South, 5–Arthur Clark, 4–Alex Coles, 3–Asher Opoku-Fordjour, 2–Curtis Langdon, 1–Bevan Rodd Replacements: 16–Gabriel Oghre, 17–Fin Baxter, 18–Trevor Davison, 19–Ted Hill, 20–Ben Curry, 21–Harry Randall, 22–Charlie Atkinson, 23–Oscar Beard. Dragons prop Chris Coleman set for Wales debut against Japan

The 26-year-old from Garndiffaith has been named on the bench for the attempt to end an 18-Test losing streak. Interim head coach Matt Sherratt has made four changes to the XV that threw away a commanding position to lose 24-19 last week. Dragons talisman Aaron Wainwright comes in at number eight to replace Taulupe Faletau, who suffered cramping in the heat and humidity of Kitakyushu. Ospreys fly-half Dan Edwards will make his first international start, Archie Griffin gets the nod at tighthead and Gloucester's Freddie Thomas replaces Dragons captain Ben Carter, who suffered a concussion in the first minute last week. There could be three debuts from the bench with Coleman joined by wing Keelan Giles and scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams. Sherratt said: 'I want to have a little bit of a freshen up. So, Dan Edwards comes in at ten. Dan's trained brilliantly over the three weeks. He was great in the Six Nations so we want to have a look at him. 'Unfortunately, Ben Carter has gone home so Freddie Thomas comes in. Keiron Assiratti has not been able to train as much as we'd like this week. 'So, it was more sensible to start Archie [Griffin] and that gives Chris Coleman a chance to make his debut off the bench. 'Toby had a little bit heat stress related cramping [following the game]. We decided it was best Aaron Wainwright starts at No 8. 'We've made a couple of other changes on the bench as well, so delighted for Keelan and Reuben. They thoroughly deserve a chance.' Coleman's selection is reward for a strong campaign despite the Dragons' struggles with the prop playing in 19 of 22 games, 15 of those appearances as a starter. He will get a chance to become an international but there is frustration for his Rodney Parade teammates Elliot Dee and Rhodri Williams. Hooker Dee misses out on the 23 again, with Liam Belcher preferred as captain Dewi Lake's back-up, while scrum-half Williams drops out of the matchday squad. He was bizarrely left on the bench in the first Test despite the energy-sapping conditions and Kieran Hardy, who has retained his starting spot, failing to fire. Wales cannot afford to make the same mistakes against a Japan side who were not at their best as they rebuild under Eddie Jones. Sherratt added: 'I think our biggest challenge this week is going to be repeating some of the good and then in that last 20 minutes it's making our lineout launch more effective so we can get our game on the field. Perhaps being a little bit braver with the ball as well. 'I think atmospherically it's going to be a great experience for the players and obviously there's no getting away from the heat. 'The roof's closed. From experience of the roof being closed in Principality Stadium, the ball can be a little bit greasy. 'It's going to be hot, maybe a little bit wet, but there'll be there'll be some atmosphere because the fans over here love their rugby.' Wales: Blair Murray; Tom Rogers, Johnny Williams, Ben Thomas, Josh Adams; Dan Edwards, Kieran Hardy; Nicky Smith, Dewi Lake (captain), Archie Griffin, Freddie Thomas, Teddy Williams, Alex Mann, Josh Macleod, Aaron Wainwright. Replacements: Liam Belcher, Gareth Thomas, Chris Coleman, James Ratti, Taine Plumtree, Tommy Reffell, Reuben Morgan-Williams, Keelan Giles.

Wales aim to avoid Spain upset in World Rugby U20 Champs

Richard Whiffin's side have been hit by comebacks from Argentina and France in the tournament in Italy. That means their semi-final hopes are gone but they still play for placings and will be keen to avoid the bottom bracket, which features a relegation play-off on final weekend. Hooker Wood starts against the Spanish while Dragons lock Nick Thomas and flanker Harry Beddall join him in the XV. Back row forward Evan Minto, prop Owain James and fly-half Harri Ford are on the bench for the clash in Verona (kick-off 2.30pm). Spain were superb against Argentina to give themselves a shot at an upset but were hit by a comeback to lose 33-30. Wales must aim to win with a bonus point and that should be enough to move into the 5th to 8th play-offs rather than 9th to 12th, with the bonus points from England versus Australia game potentially key to that (kick-off 5pm). Wales Under-20s: Lewis Edwards; Elijah Evans, Osian Darwin-Lewis, Elis Price, Aidan Boshoff; Harri Wilde, Ellis Lewis; Ioan Emanuel, Evan Wood, Jac Pritchard, Luke Evans, Nick Thomas, Deian Gwynne, Caio James, Harry Beddall (captain). Replacements: Jake Bowen, Owain James, Sam Scott, Dan Gemine, Evan Minto, Sion Davies, Harri Ford, Jack Woods.

New Subaru Forester coming to South Africa

Its most recent local market developments having been in 2023 when it announced pricing for the XV and the turbocharged Outback XT, Subaru has officially confirmed the sixth generation Forester for South Africa by way of a teaser image on its Instagram page. What to expect? Shown on the eve of the Los Angeles International Auto Show nearly two years ago, the internally named SL Forester not only sports a less rounded appearance than the preceding SK, but a stiffer Global Platform foundation as well as improved steering. Wider and longer than the SK, the SL also has more boot space ranging from 838l to 2 106l, and inside, improved materials plus the portrait-style 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Subaru Southern Africa (@subaru_sa) While specification is set to vary depending on the trim level, notable items available in the States include heated and ventilated front seats, a hands-free electric tailgate, wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone climate control and LED headlights. As part of the heavily revised EyeSight range of safety and driver assistance systems, the Forester comes equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Reverse Automatic Braking, Driver Attention Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Exit Assist and Lane Keep Assist. In addition, Subaru has upgraded the quality of the forward facing camera, as well as the overall 360-degree surround-view system. Up front Up front, the South African-spec Forester is unlikely to offer the 1.8l turbocharged flat-four Boxer engine, or indeed the pair of hybrid units consisting of the mild-hybrid 2l e-Boxer and the self-charging 2.5l e-Boxer. As in not only the US but also Australasia, the only unit set to be available is the conventional normally aspirated 2.5l that produces 132kW/241Nm in the former and 136kW/247Nm Down Under. In both instances, a revised Lineartronic CVT sends the amount of twist to all four wheels through Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system. At present, the outgoing local market Forester has a choice of two powerunits; the 2l flat-four outputting 115kW/196Nm and the mentioned 2.5 rated at 136kW/239Nm. More soon Priced from $43 490 (R504 629) in Australia and $29 995 (R528 536) in the United States, Subaru South Africa is yet to confirm an exact date of reveal, however, given the commencing of the teaser campaign yesterday, expect more details to be announced soon. As a reminder, the current three model SK Forester range starts at R699 000 for the 2.0i S ES, extends to R729 000 for the 2.5i Sport ES and ends at R780 000 for the flagship 2.5i S ES.
