Nik Nazmi stands firm on Cabinet exit
NATURAL Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (picture) has remained firm on his decision to leave the Cabinet. He even compared his decision with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp who chose to step down even though he held a deep affection for the football club. It was a difficult and necessary decision which was made in full consideration. 'That's exactly how I feel. It wasn't easy to leave NRES. After two years, I consider the team at NRES — including the departments and agencies — to have become a dream team, with exceptional commitment, abilities and integrity. 'But this decision is for a bigger cause. The party's mandate is crucial for broader reforms. I did have the option to stay, but my choice is to resign,' he said on his Facebook page yesterday. On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that he felt hopeful that Nik Nazmi would still continue his duties as minister and said he would give him time and space to reconsider. 'I always wait and give space, (time) to think, and if possible, to continue (his responsibilities). There is still time,' he said, following his acceptance of the resignation of Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. Rafizi's resignation became official following the end of his leave on June 16, while Nik Nazmi is scheduled for July 4. Meanwhile, Rafizi, the former PKR deputy president, has announced that he will answer all questions, including claims of planning to start a new political party during an upcoming podcast entitled 'Yang Berhenti Menteri (YBM)' this Friday. He stated on Instagram that he is now free to speak without being constrained by government ethics or confidentiality. 'Insya-Allah (God willing), I will balance the YBM's commentary — there'll be fire, and there'll be clarity. Most importantly, it will be objective, fact-based and provide fair understanding to everyone. 'Too sensitive, not easily persuaded, a minister with no results, planning to form a new party and a formula that's going nowhere (these are among the allegations that will be addressed)…See you this Friday, at 9pm,' he said. — TMR

‘Yang Berhenti Menteri': Rafizi vows to ‘burn and enlighten' in new podcast after stepping down as economy minister
KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has launched a new podcast, YBM, which stands for Yang Berhenti Menteri (the one who quit as minister), vowing to combine sharp commentary with illuminating insights. In a Facebook post announcing the podcast, Rafizi said he is now free to speak openly, unbound by government ethics or confidentiality. 'God willing, I will balance the commentary on YBM – there will be some 'burning' (bakar) and also some 'enlightening' (beri pencerahan). What's important is that it must be objective, fact-based, and provide a fair understanding to everyone,' he said. The weekly podcast's debut episode is set to air this Friday at 9pm. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rafizi Ramli (@rafiziramli) Rafizi, who stepped down as economy minister after losing the PKR deputy presidency, hinted that the podcast would tackle criticisms against him while outlining his political future. In his announcement, Rafizi listed several jibes often directed at him, including claims that he is 'always sulking,' 'achieved nothing as a minister,' and is 'thinking of starting a new party.' Rafizi said his focus would shift to harnessing the potential of ordinary Malaysians. The YBM podcast marks Rafizi's return to the format, having previously hosted Yang Bakar Menteri, which shares the same acronym. This time, Rafizi promises a fresh approach, combining fiery critiques with thoughtful analysis. The Pandan MP also teased future plans, saying he would reveal more after Hari Raya Haji celebrations earlier this month. The debut episode of YBM will air this Friday, potentially setting the stage for Rafizi to further explain his departure from the cabinet and his vision moving forward.

Rafizi Ramli resumes YBM podcast in public setting
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is back with his Yang Bakar Menteri (YBM) podcast, but this time the Economy Minister will be moving away from the studio and into a public space. The Economy Minister said he will use the opportunity to answer questions and provide explanations on the latest developments. "This time the YBM podcast will be taken out of the studios to a space which is open to the public," he said. "I will take this opportunity to offer an explanation and answer questions related to the issues and hot polemics that have been doing the rounds over the past one to two weeks," he said in a post on X on Thursday (May 8). The event is scheduled to take place at 9pm on May 10 at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Rafizi recently received criticism for going on leave amidst a global economic crisis. His absence also fuelled rumours that he would be resigning from his cabinet position. However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim later dismissed the rumours of Rafizi's resignation.
