APCC chief Sharmila slams AP MPs for silence on bifurcation issues, calls them puppets of BJP

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila Reddy launched a scathing attack on the State's 25 Lok Sabha MPs and 11 Rajya Sabha MPs, accusing them of failing to address key issues arising from the bifurcation. Sharmila alleged that MPs, regardless of party, were acting like 'puppets' of the BJP, prioritising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval over the State's interests. She alleged that they remained silent on critical unresolved promises, including the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. She slammed the Union government for not fulfilling its commitments, including granting national project status to Polavaram. She pointed out that the project was now reduced to a water storage scheme, citing the reduction of its height to cut costs by Rs 25,000 crore. She also mentioned lack of progress on the Kadapa Steel Plant and Dugarajapatnam Port. Targeting the State government's 'Super Six' schemes, she called the free bus travel for women a 'super flop' even before its commencement, citing limited to intra-district travel. She demanded statewide free travel for the women.

Lack of COA nod for YSR University's BArch sparks concern in Andhra

KADAPA: Hundreds of students enrolled in the architecture program at Dr YSR Architecture and Fine Arts University in Kadapa are facing an uncertain future due to the university's failure to obtain mandatory approval from the Council of Architecture (COA). Despite being in the final year of the five-year Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) program, the YSRAFU students from 2020–2022 batches have yet to receive confirmation that their degrees will receive official COA recognition. The students have launched protests, voicing frustration and fear that five years of hard work and lakhs of rupees in tuition fees may go in vain. Many have spent up to Rs 15 lakh each on their education, but without COA certification, they are ineligible to practice as architects or pursue postgraduate studies. 'The university admitted us without securing COA approval. We've been kept in the dark for years. Now we're about to graduate, and we still don't know if our degrees are valid,' said one final-year student. Adding political weight to the students' agitation, APCC president Y S Sharmila Reddy visited the university to express solidarity.

Sharmila assails Naidu's one-year rule

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief YS Sharmila Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, marking one year of his administration. She alleged that Naidu's progress during this period has been limited to mere boasting and issuing 'progress reports.' Sharmila Reddy stated that the 'progress report' released by the Naidu government resembles an election campaign document. 'It only mentions what needs to be done, failing to clearly demonstrate what has been achieved,' she said, questioning, 'How much was promised, and how much was delivered?' The APCC chief expressed severe dissatisfaction with the implementation of the 'Super Six' schemes including free bus travel for women, Unemployment Allowance & 20 Lakh Jobs, Talliki Vandanam, Annadata Sukhibhava, Mahila Sakthi scheme. Referring to other promises and financial status, Sharmila mentioned the promise of an annual job calendar in January. She accused the Chandrababu government of imposing an additional burden of Rs 17,000 crore in electricity bills on the public within a year, raising charges twice under the guise of 'adjustment.' She reminded the government of its election promise not to increase charges. Sharmila asserted that the Chandrababu administration has accumulated nearly Rs one lakh crore in debt in one year. She drew parallels with the previous Jagan regime, which amassed Rs 10 lakh crores in debt, stating that both leaders have turned the State into 'Debt-ridden Andhra Pradesh.' She accused Chandrababu of subservience to the BJP, stating that he remains silent even when the BJP deceives the State. APCC Chief YS Sharmila Reddy speaking to the media in Vijayawada on Thursday

BJP government killing Vizag steel plant silently, alleges APCC president YS Sharmila

VIJAYAWADA: APCC chief YS Sharmila Reddy accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of systematically undermining Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), established by the Congress government, which was once a profit-making entity. Sharmila, who staged a hunger strike at VSP in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, alleged that the BJP was employing a 'silent killing' strategy to weaken the steel plant, likening it to the proverb of driving a dog mad to justify its killing. She claimed that the government was deliberately starving the plant of raw materials, raising export prices to burden it, and denying it a dedicated iron ore mine, despite Congress' earlier plans to provide one. The APCC chief denounced the government's claim of rescuing the plant with Rs 11,000 crore as a falsehood, alleging that Rs 8,000 crore was reclaimed as bank loans, and the remaining Rs 3,000 crore was tied to a condition to lay off 5,000 workers. Already, 2,000 workers have been sacked, with plans to remove 3,000 more, reducing the workforce from 34,000 to half, she charged.
