Latest QB Updates While it's important to follow the latest news coming out of training camps, let me preach some caution about overreacting to reports about players' performances in practice. If the drum beat is consistent, it can definitely turn into a reality when the regular season comes around, but most players will have good and bad days this time of year. So when you hear about young quarterbacks like Caleb Williams or J.J. McCarthy throwing interceptions in practice, don't panic. Williams is learning a new system under Ben Johnson and this is McCarthy's first opportunity to be the No. 1 QB for the Vikings after missing last season due to injury. I'm still projecting both players to flirt with low-end QB1 fantasy numbers in 2025. Let's also not overreact to players leaving practice due to injuries. Some people seemed ready to write Justin Fields off for the season when he was carted off last week with a toe issue, but the Jets QB is already back at practice and not expected to miss any time. He remains a low-end QB1 in my projections. I'm monitoring the Matthew Stafford situation a little closer, since he's dealt with back ailments in the past and is being called week-to-week. But we've got more than a month until the season kicks off, so Stafford has plenty of time to get right. The chance of this popping back up in the season is concerning though, which keeps him down in the low-end QB2 range for fantasy. Latest TE Updates When I miss out on an elite tight end in my drafts, I often end up with one of my breakout candidates — Tucker Kraft, Dalton Kincaid, Colston Loveland, Tyler Warren. That group has the potential to challenge for a spot amongst the top seven fantasy tight ends, but can often be drafted in the 10th round or later. It's the sweet spot at this position and the area I highly recommend targeting. There was speculation all offseason that the Seahawks could release veteran tight end Noah Fant, but they waited until right before training camp to make the move. That helps disguise the fantasy value of second-round rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo, who seems headed for a big role in Klint Kubiak's scheme. While I prefer the long-term value of other Day 2 rookie tight ends like Mason Taylor, Harold Fannin Jr. and Terrance Ferguson, Arroyo has a chance to outproduce all of them in Year 1. Latest WR Updates Rashee Rice will be a polarizing player in drafts now that he's been sentenced for his role in a car crash. There's been conflicting reports about a possible suspension, with ESPN's Adam Schefter suggesting a multi-game ban is likely and others like Mark Maske of The Washington Post citing sources that say it's premature to conclude Rice will be suspended. Chiefs' beat writer Matt Derrick was told by people within the organization that they believe Rice could be forced to sit out two to four games. I always encourage people to follow Football Guys' Drew Davenport, who does an excellent job analyzing all aspects of legal cases that involve fantasy players. From my view, I still want to get Rice on as many teams as possible this season. I'm willing to find a replacement for the opening weeks, if it means I'll get a potential fantasy WR1 in the fourth round or later. It all comes down to how much risk you're willing to accept. After missing 10 games last season due to a dislocated ankle, Chris Godwin carried some extra risk with his fantasy profile in 2025. His outlook took a turn for the worst when ESPN's Jenna Laine recently reported that Godwin underwent a second procedure on his ankle this spring. The veteran is currently on the PUP list and his status for the start of the season is unknown. When you combine that with Bucs' first-rounder Emeka Egbuka shining in camp, it's forced me to move Godwin down into the WR3/flex range with Egbuka only a couple spots behind him. As I said on the Fantasy Forecast a few weeks ago, Egbuka is one of the best values in fantasy drafts. You may notice that a couple of overqualified No. 2 receivers — Rome Odunze and Jaylen Waddle — continue to move up my rankings. The combination of talent, opportunity and positive training camp buzz points towards them taking on bigger roles this year and possibility emerging as their team's top target if the older veterans on their rosters (DJ Moore, Tyreek Hill) drop off in any way. Odunze and Waddle are safe fantasy WR3s with very high ceilings.
