Police retaliated, and one of the accused, Ashraf alias Ajay (34) of Mainpuri, was shot in the leg. His two associates, Arif and Salman alias Asif, residents of Etah, have also been arrested. Interrogation revealed that the three were part of an interstate gang led by Ashraf, which used to break into houses and steal cash and valuables across Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Stolen equipment, cash worth Rs 45,000, a pistol, and cartridges were recovered from them. Around 11pm the same night, Sector 49 police spotted a speeding motorcycle in Sector 76. Noida society boosts security after 9-year-old's rape case

A group housing society in Sector 21 has implemented stringent security measures following the arrest of three men for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl over a month-long period. Three accused—a 35-year-old clothes presser from Sector 123, a 50-year-old security guard from Sector 48, and a 55-year-old driver from Harola—were arrested Wednesday after doctors at Sector 30 hospital alerted police. (Representational image) Three accused—a 35-year-old clothes presser from Sector 123, a 50-year-old security guard from Sector 48, and a 55-year-old driver from Harola—were arrested Wednesday after doctors at Sector 30 hospital alerted police. The minor's medical examination confirmed evidence of sexual assault, police said. Cases have been registered against the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 74 for assault with intent to outrage modesty, and 65 for rape, along with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act provisions. The society has now mandated ID cards for all residents entering or exiting the premises and ordered gate passes for domestic help, attendants, and drivers within a fortnight, according to a security document accessed by HT. 'While all efforts are being made to strengthen security by keeping the maximum number of CCTV cameras (600 cameras) in serviceable condition at all times and keeping a strict check at entry points, these measures would be inadequate without the support and cooperation of residents,' the document states. According to the document, the society identified security lapses, including unauthorised domestic help staying in servant quarters without society consent, rental agreements not submitted to management, and vehicles without proper stickers. 'The matter of the relocation of Dhobis is being looked into by police. Decisions as and when taken by them shall be implemented,' the document added, referring to the arrested clothes presser. The chairman of the society said, 'We are conducting meetings with members regularly to address the security issues. There are schools, shops, and other institutions, so sometimes it is difficult to verify each and every person, but now passes will be issued for outsiders who enter society for other work. Police verifications are also being conducted for households, drivers, etc.' The society cited heavy non-resident footfall due to numerous shops and markets as a security concern. 'Violations of any security norms after expiry of 15 days' notice shall be viewed seriously and reported to law enforcement agencies,' the document warned. Despite attempts from HT, deputy commissioner of police (Noida) Yamuna Prasad refused to comment when asked about police review of the society's security measures.

Noida Sector 21 rape: Father's friends tied, gagged 9-yr-old victim

A nine-year-old rape survivor has revealed harrowing details of her ordeal to police, stating that three of her father's friends tied her hands and gagged her before raping her multiple times over the past month at her Sector 21 home, while her father was away at work. On Friday, the victim's statement was recorded before the court, as her medical reports are awaited, police said. (Representational image) Sharing details of what she told police, her father told HT on Friday that her statement has been recorded before the court, and her medical reports are awaited. The girl's father, a domestic worker living in servant quarters with his three children, said his daughter finally disclosed the abuse last week after suffering from persistent fever. 'Around a week ago, my daughter, who was suffering from continuous fever, told me these men—all of whom worked nearby and frequented our home—assaulted her more than five times while I was at work and her eight-year-old sister was playing outside,' the distraught father said. 'They tied her hands, taped her mouth, and threatened her into silence,' the father added. The single father, separated from his wife for five years, said he was shattered. 'I never imagined my own friends could do this. People say gated societies are safe, but where does that leave poor families like ours?' Noida deputy commissioner of police Yamuna Prasad confirmed that police have recorded statements from all family members, including the victim's younger sister. No evidence so far suggests the eight-year-old was targeted. 'So far, nothing suspicious involving the younger child has come to fore. We're investigating the matter and will act stringently if any additional offences surface,' Prasad said. The three accused—a 35-year-old from Sector 123 who irons clothes, a 50-year-old security guard who lives in Sector 48, and a 55-year-old from Harola who is a driver—were arrested Wednesday after doctors at Sector 30 hospital alerted police that the girl's medical examination revealed evidence of sexual assault. Later, police recorded the statements of the minor before the magistrate and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 74 for assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 65 for rape, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. .

Noida: Four linked to trader's murder, fraud, theft; nabbed

Two men linked to the murder of a local trader and multiple fraud cases involving foreign currency were arrested by Noida Police after a shootout near Elevated Road in Sector 54 on Saturday, officers said, adding that the two accused were injured in the incident. Two other accused, including the kingpin, were arrested later from Ghaziabad and Delhi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Yamuna Prasad said the encounter occurred during a routine police check when two suspects on a motorcycle refused to stop and opened fire. 'While a team from Sector 24 police station was conducting routine checking near Elevated Road, Sector 54, two suspects on a motorcycle failed to stop when signalled by the police and instead opened fire on our team in an attempt to escape. 'In self-defence, officers fired back, injuring both suspects who were subsequently overpowered and taken into custody,' said Prasad. The injured men—Mukul Sharma, 25, of Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, and Akash Upadhyay, 24, of Noida—were taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. Officers recovered a stolen motorcycle, a .32-bore pistol, a country-made .315-bore pistol, live cartridges, two mobile phones, and two bags containing fraudulently acquired Canadian and UAE currency worth approximately ₹10.3 lakh from the two. Police said the suspects confessed during interrogation to killing Ompal Bhati, a 40-year-old currency trader from Sector 94, Noida, on Wednesday. They lured him to a rented property in Sector 12 under the pretext of exchanging Canadian dollars and shot him when a scuffle broke out. A murder case had been filed at Sector 24 police station. The suspects' modus operandi involved paying small deposits to rent properties and using them as bait to rob currency dealers, officers aware of the case said. Police also arrested Mukul's father, Ajay Kumar Sharma, alias Ajju, 48, from Vasundhara — described as the mastermind — and an accomplice, Aryan Yadav, 25, from Morna bus stand in Delhi subsequently after the arrest of Sharma and Upadhyay. The accused were also involved in a May 14 incident in Vasundhara, Indirapuram, where 8,000 UAE Dirhams were stolen in a similar fraud, they added. Police recovered ₹4 lakh in cash, 9,900 Canadian dollars (worth approx. ₹6.27 lakh), 30 UAE Dirhams ( ₹703), clothing worn during the crime, and two pistols with ammunition from the two. Police confirmed both injured suspects have prior criminal records in Noida and Ghaziabad under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, officers said.

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to cops, a team from Sector 113 police station was conducting checks near Parthala when they flagged down a Swift. DCP (Noida) Yamuna Prasad said the driver did not stop the car and instead fired at the cops. "The car drove towards the floodplain area. As cops returned fire, one of the three occupants of the car was injured," the DCP said. Farman alias Chhote of Meerut, who sustained gunshot injuries, and his two associates were arrested during a combing operation later that night. Police recovered three stolen cars—Innova Crysta, Kia Seltos and Creta—worth around Rs 1 crore, and the Swift used in the crimes from their possession. "The accused used the Swift for recce. Apart from this, one country-made pistol, along with cartridges, was recovered from them. A toolkit for breaking car locks (tab with connecting wire), along with other equipment such as hammers and glass shields to help them steal cars, were recovered from them," SHO Sector 113 Krishna Gopal said. According to cops, Farman has over 30 cases registered against him. "During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to carry out recce for high-end cars parked on roadsides and at hotels. They would break the driver's side window, hack the car's system through a tablet, make duplicate keys (virtual) on the spot, and steal the car within 4 to 5 minutes. They would then park the car at a deserted place and replace the broken window and number plate of the car to avoid arrest," the DCP said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Additional DCP (Noida) Sumit Shukla said the gang would use the Zangi app to communicate and not phones so that their locations would not be traced through surveillance. The accused have been arrested under BNS sections 109 (attempt to murder), 317(4) (stolen property), 345(3) (property mark), and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) and sections of the Arms Act.
