Zhu Xudan joins growing list of stars leaving Jaywalk Studio
26 Jun - Zhu Xudan (also known as Bambi Zhu) recently revealed that she is no longer with Jaywalk Studio, home to stars like Dilraba Dilmurat, Vengo Gao and Rita Wang. The actress shared the news on 23 June via her Weibo account, writing, "I have grown along the way and gained a lot. I am grateful for my graduation and my journey." "Thank you [Jaywalk] for your cultivation over the past ten years, and I wish you a better future," she added. Zhu, who graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in 2012, became a big name in 2017 after playing a supporting role in "Eternal Love". She had since starred in multiple dramas including playing the role of Zhou Zhiruo in "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre" (2019). Chinese actress Yang Mi accused of neglecting her 11 y/o daughter by ex-father-in-law
HONG KONG: It seems there's some family tension making headlines. According to a VnExpress report, veteran Hong Kong actor Lau Dan, who's the father of Hawick Lau and Yang Mi's ex-father-in-law, has recently accused Yang Mi of not taking care of their 11-year-old Noemie Lau, who lives with her father, Hawick Lau. Photo: Instagram/Yang Mi Dimsun Daily reported that Lau Dan alleged many times in interviews that Yang has been neglecting 11-year-old Noemie Lau. It's been reported that Lau Dan claimed Yang Mi never calls Noemie on holidays. He took it a step further, highlighting that Noemie didn't inquire about her mother on Mother's Day, using this as evidence to suggest a difficult bond between mother and daughter. Defended Yang When news broke about Lau Dan's accusations, Yang Mi didn't have to wait long for someone to come to her defence. Her close friend, Taiwanese actress Evonne Sie, quickly spoke up, as reported by Yahoo! Life Singapore. Evonne shared that whenever she and Yang Mi get together, Yang Mi often pulls out private photos of her daughter, and they chat openly about parenting. It sounds like a real bond of trust. See also Behind-the-scenes of Korean drama Fix You Sie shared that Yang visits Noemie Lau in Hong Kong several times, but she prefers to do it discreetly so no one can notice. Visits her daughter Yang Mi has spoken about her approach to parenting in past interviews, explaining that she makes an effort to visit her daughter, Noemie Lau, whenever her schedule allows. However, she prefers to keep these visits private and not disclose the exact timings. Her reason for this is to protect Noemie's privacy and ensure her daughter can have a normal, undisturbed childhood away from the public eye. Yang Mi, now 39, began acting as a child, but it was her role in the 2011 drama ' Palace '—a captivating time-travel romance—that launched her into superstardom and captured the hearts of audiences. She's seen as one of the new guard, stepping into the shoes of China's 'Four Dan Actresses'—a highly exclusive club of top-earning stars, including Xu Jinglei, Zhou Xun, Vicki Zhao, and Zhang Ziyi. On the personal front, Yang Mi tied the knot with Hawick Lau, who's 51, in 2014. Sadly, their marriage didn't last, and they went their separate ways in 2018. Afterwards, Hawick was given custody of their daughter. Several accolades Throughout her remarkable career, Yang Mi's talent hasn't gone unnoticed; she has garnered numerous awards and accolades. One notable achievement was winning the Best Actress award at the 50th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in 2017 for her compelling performance in the film 'Reset.' This shows her talent has been recognised on an international stage. She earned a nomination for Best Actress at the 24th China TV Golden Eagle Awards for her role in ' Wang Zhaojun ' back in 2007. Later, she continued to impress, picking up Huading Awards nominations for Best Actress for her performances in the dramas ' Ru Yi ' (2011) and ' Beauty World ' (2012). Hawick Lau Hoi-wai, born on Oct 13, 1974, is a familiar face in Hong Kong's entertainment scene, known for his talents in both acting and singing. He began his career in Hong Kong and was recognised as one of TVB's ' Five Fresh Tigers ,' a group of promising young actors. He is known for his performances in series such as ' A Kindred Spirit ' (1995), ' Virtues of Harmony ' (2001), and ' My Family ' (2005). Yang Mi: I don't consider myself the perfect mother
10 Jun - As netizens began to change their perception regarding Yang Mi's parenting, the actress recently admitted that she does not consider herself the perfect mother. In a recent interview with Chinese media, the actress shared that people have different definition of what a perfect mother is, and that she would never be perfect in the eyes of others. "There are thousands of ways to be perfect in the eyes of a thousand people. We certainly can't be perfect in the eyes of others, so I think it doesn't take courage to admit that you are not perfect. It is a normal thing. Don't put too much pressure on yourself," she said, adding that one should try to be a good mother rather than a perfect one. Yang Mi also said that when it comes to educating her daughter Noemie, she hopes that she can respect her daughter's wishes instead of controlling her. She revealed that her daughter loves painting and they would often paint together. "Everyone is their own person. A mum who continues to grow, stays true to herself, and brings positive vibes, that is the most precious gift she can give her child," she said. It was earlier this month that good friend Evonne Sie denied the notion that the actress was a negligent mother, saying that the actress would often talk about her daughter to her friends. "She's Got No Name" unveils first official poster
6 Jun - Two years after the first announcement, Peter Chan's "She's Got No Name" finally unveiled the first official poster for the first part of the movie. The poster reveals the looks of all the cast for the first time, sparking interests of fans who mostly commented that all of the actors seemed unrecognisable and are truly immersed in their characters. This includes lead actress Zhang Ziyi, whose character has scars covering her face; Yang Mi looking dishevelled in her character as a female prisoner, Jackson Yee in shades and equipped with a cane as a blind fortune teller, as well as Zanilia Zhao, looking glamorous as a writer. Fans also couldn't help but notice that both Zanilia and Yang Mi are placed on each side of the poster. The decision seemed to be a way to avoid the fandom of both actresses from arguing on who is the bigger star. Since the film debuted in the non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival last year, there has been no further news until it was recently announced as the opening film of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival. What is noteworthy is that the film has recently been announced to be divided into two parts, the first of which has the Chinese title of "Jiangyuan Lane: Mystery". Evonne Sie denies Yang Mi of being a negligent mother
5 Jun - While netizens have been introduced to the idea that Yang Mi was an absent mother for many years now, good friend Evonne Sie has recently dismissed the notion in an interview. The Taiwanese actress recently shared about her friendship with the Chinese star during an appearance on a variety show, saying that Yang Mi would often share photos of her only daughter Noemie with her in private. Evonne stated that she never understood the act of showing off one's baby to others, though she truly adored Noemie's cuteness. But it was only after she became a mother herself that she gradually turned into a "baby-showing maniac". She also stated that the two of them, who became friends after working together on "Tiny Times" in 2013, had a lot of discussions about parenting whenever they meet and that Yang Mi would often visit Noemie in Hong Kong discreetly so not to attract attention. It is noted that the idea of Yang Mi ignoring her daughter was due to the fact that she rarely posted photos of her child. Many also speculated that she was too busy with work to spend time with her daughter, who lives with her ex-husband Hawick Lau in Hong Kong. This was further fuelled by her former father-in-law Lau Dan, who declined to comment on anything related to the actress' visit. Yang Mi once said in an interview that she would visit her daughter whenever she was free, but she did not want to disclose the time, nor did she want to expose any of her daughter's private life. This is so that Noemie can have an ordinary life. (Photo Source: Yang Mi Weibo, SOHU)
