Chainsaws and pole saws sold at Canadian Tire recalled

Health Canada has issued a recall notice for Yardworks and Worx electric corded chainsaws and pole saws due to a laceration hazard posed by a faulty switch. Recalled products were sold at Canadian Tire. A recall alert issued July 3 noted 3,028 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 49,000 were sold in the United States. The affected products were sold from September 2024 to March 2025. The Yardworks nine-amp, 14-inch electric corded chainsaw is among the recalled products that pose a laceration hazard due to a potentially faulty switch. Customers are advised to contact the manufacturer, Positec Canada Ltd., for a replacement. 'Immediately stop using the recalled products,' Health Canada said in the recall notice. The main switch on the recalled chainsaws and pole saws can fail and allow the saws to continue to run even after the switch is released, which poses a laceration hazard, Health Canada added. As of June 30, Positec has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or in the U.S., according to the recall notice. The Worx eight-amp, 14-inch electric chainsaw is another item recalled. Check for model number WG305. The first six digits of the serial number range from 202408 to 202501. The following devices are included in the recall. The eight-amp, 10-inch Worx electric pole saw is recalled. Look for model number WG309. The nine-amp, 10-inch Yardworks 2-in-1 electric pole saw, with model number 0545757 and a serial number of 1 47 24 or 2 43 24, is included in the recall. Consumers are advised to contact Positec Canada for product replacement directions. ‘Immediately stop using': Chainsaws, pole saws recalled over laceration hazard

Some models of electric yard tools have been recalled over potential risks of injury, Health Canada has announced. Published Thursday, the recall notice identifies four models of chainsaws and pole saws sold under the brand names Yardworks and Worx. According to Health Canada, affected units include main switches that may fail to operate properly, allowing the saws to 'continue to run even after the switch is released.' A saw with a failed main switch poses a 'laceration hazard,' the recall says. Affected WORX saws feature serial numbers with the first six digits ranging from 202408 to 202501, and include the following models: Worx Electric Chainsaw, 8 Amp, 14-inch, model number and SKU WG305, in black and orange with 'WORX' marked on the body and bar of the saw. Worx Electric Pole Saw, 8 Amp, 10-inch, model number and SKU WG309, in black and orange with 'WORX' marked on the body and bar of the saw, shipped with an eight-foot pole extension. Affected Yardworks saws feature the serial numbers 1 47 24 or 2 43 24, and include the following models: Yardworks 2-in-1 Electric Pole Saw, 9 Amp, 10-inch, model number 0545757, SKU 054-5757-2, in black and yellow-green with 'Yardworks' marked on the saw body and bar. Yardworks Electric Corded Chainsaw, 9 Amp, 14-inch, model number 0545763, SKU 054-5763-6, in black and yellow-green with 'Yardworks' marked on the saw body and bar. Health Canada notes that SKUs and serial numbers can be found on the product label. Products under the recall were sold in Canada between September 2024 and March 2025, with just over 3,000 sold in that time. A further 49,000 affected units were sold in the United States. The company reports that as of June 30, they have received no reports of incidents or injury related to the recalled products in Canada or the United States. What to do with a recalled product Health Canada is advising customers to 'immediately stop using' the recalled product, and to reach out to the manufacturer for directions on how to replace the saws. Those in possession of recalled chainsaws and pole saws can contact Positec Canada by phone at 1-888-997-8871, via email at chainsawrecall@ or on the company's website. Consumers are also reminded that selling or even giving away recalled items is prohibited, and that any incidents or injuries related to this or any product should be reported through Health Canada's online form.

Australian artist to transform Glasgow wall with huge mural

An Australian artist is set to transform a wall in Glasgow city centre with a new huge mural. The new artwork, standing at roughly 1230 square metres, is being completed in the Merchant City, on the end of the new Social Hub building. Themed by stories from local consultations, the art celebrates heritage, pride, culture, and change in the Merchant City, and will join the City Centre Mural Trail. Commissioned by The Social Hub and delivered in partnership with Yardworks and the Merchant City and Trongate Community Council, the mural is titled Make Time For What Matters. The mural has been made possible after support from Glasgow City Council's Area Partnership and City Centre Mural Fund and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, with more details on the public unveiling to follow. Smug, originally from Australia but based in Glasgow, is widely recognised for his photorealistic murals, including the modern portrait of St Mungo, on High Street, now a local landmark and a highlight of the trail. He said: 'I've worked a lot in Merchant City over the years and have enjoyed adding new work. The new piece is rooted in local stories. Through a series of consultations in this area, the concept of the mural developed from a brief based on what came through: stories of heritage, community pride, culture and change. 'It's always a balance, making sure everyone's voices are represented while still creating something visually powerful. I've tried to reflect something powerfully honest and bold – something that feels like Glasgow. If it sparks a moment of reflection or conversation, then I feel this has been achieved. 'The opportunities I've had here have been foundational in my career. It's nice to have the chance to add something of this monumental scale now, to contribute again and bring something fresh to both the neighbourhood and the mural trail. 'It brings life to spaces people walk past every day. If someone pauses and feels something, has some sort of connection to the artwork, that's powerful. When a mural tells a story or connects with its environment, it can be transformative.' 'Glasgow has always had a strong graffiti and street art culture. It's raw, expressive, and usually speaks to what's going on in society. 'My journey started with graffiti and is very much intertwined between the two subcultures. Murals build on that graffiti tradition but also offer a different kind of platform. They allow for bigger, bolder statements that can speak to a wide audience. 'Collaborations like this make space for storytelling. This one is a huge statement piece both in scale and subject matter, and I'm happy to be making it happen.' Laura Frood, Creative Placemaking and Social Impact Lead, SWG3, commented: 'We've loved this collaboration and the opportunity to work on a mural of such a significant scale. Graffiti and street art are a huge part of Glasgow's cultural identity, and we're always thrilled to be invited to lead innovative projects of world-class standard. From last year's consultations, it was clear that the stories waiting to be told and the impact they could have are truly powerful.' A spokesperson for Merchant City and Trongate Community Council said: 'As an outward looking residents' association we are pleased to have started the ball rolling on this project through Gary and Ros' involvement and contacts. The mural sums up many of the attractions of this exciting and historic part of Scotland's biggest city.' Mural tribute to Glasgow firebrand Mary Barbour unveiled in Govan

Barbour remains famous as the working-class woman who organised the rent strikes of 1915 – and blazed a trail to become one of the city's first women councillors and then magistrates. Created by internationally acclaimed muralist Jeks, the work presents a 'bold and contemporary depiction of Barbour's spirit', its creators said - linking her legacy of protest and activism with the ongoing fight for justice and equality today. Commissioned by SWG3's Yardworks GRID in partnership with Linthouse Housing Association (LHA), the mural marks 50 years of Linthouse Housing Association providing social housing and supporting the Govan community. It also forms part of Glasgow's 850th anniversary celebrations, spotlighting the city's rich history of grassroots activism. The mural is one of five in Govan (Image: Devon Poole) The mural, which was created with input from local groups Protests and Suffragettes and Sunny G Radio, features a young woman symbolising a modern Mary Barbour looking upward toward a brighter future with a protest scene behind her. Subtle details such as an equals sign tattoo on her neck and a thistle motif symbolises strength, equality, and Scottish identity, Yardworks said. This the group's fifth large-scale gable end mural in Govan, contributing to a growing trail of public artworks that celebrate the area's proud heritage. Linthouse Housing Association Chief Executive Irene C McFarlane said: 'Mary Barbour was an iconic figure not just in Glasgow but across the wider housing association movement. Her contribution cannot be underestimated as she bravely tackled housing injustice and stood firmly on the side of tenants. 'It is therefore highly appropriate that she should be honoured with this new mural as a reminder of her activism. It perfectly complements the Mary Barbour statue located at Govan Cross unveiled in 2018.
