Congress government's ‘Sadhana Samavesha' to be held in Mysuru on July 19
MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced that the 'Sadhana Samavesha' — a convention to showcase the achievements of the Congress government in the State — will be held at the Maharaja College Grounds in Mysuru on July 19. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and several other Ministers will participate, and lay foundation stones for various development works on the occasion, he added. Speaking at a preparatory meeting with leaders and workers of the Varuna Assembly Constituency, Mr. Yathindra said that the convention will highlight the government's contributions, specifically to Mysuru city. The ongoing development works and the achievements of the State government over the last two years will be presented during the event. He said that the Congress government has successfully completed two years in office, and has already held similar conventions at other places in the State to highlight its accomplishments. The July 19 convention will cover the Mysuru region. Party workers from the K.R. assembly constituency, N.R. assembly constituency, and Chamarajanagar assembly constituency will also participate in the event. Beneficiaries of government schemes, party workers, and leaders from Varuna have been asked to attend in large numbers. District Congress president B.J. Vijay Kumar said that the Chief Minister has directed the party's city and rural office-bearers to organise the convention systematically and make it a grand success. In connection with the event, Minister in charge of Mysuru district H. C. Mahadevappa has convened a meeting, comprising Congress MLAs, former MLAs, MLCs, and other leaders in Mysuru on July 12. Mr. Vijay Kumar also said that the foundation stone for the much-awaited Indira Congress Bhavan is expected to be laid in Mysuru in the last week of this month by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. He urged party leaders to mobilise support for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections as well.

Development works under Congress on track, says Yathindra Siddaramaiah
GADAG: Reacting to the statement of the Chief Minister's Economic Advisor Basavaraj Rayareddy, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah said that the former will give his advice, but the state government has ensured that all guarantees are provided, and development work is in progress. 'It is a wrong notion that development works have halted. Funds to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore have been kept for Bengaluru development and Rs 8,000 crore for other regions. We are building a Kanak Bhavan in Mundargi for Rs 4 crore. When compared with BJP's tenure, development works have been happening more now,' he claimed. Reacting to a question on change in CM, Yathindra said, 'It is left to the high command. There may be some difference of opinion among MLAs. AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has also said that there will be no change of CM, and Siddaramaiah will continue in the post for five years,' he said.

Siddaramaiah's son hits out at Congress for blocking Karnataka caste survey
Congress MLC and son of Karnataka Chief Minister, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, criticised his own party for failing to implement the findings of the caste survey in the state. He blamed resistance from influential individuals within certain communities for blocking the release and implementation of the report, accusing them of using minor objections as justification.'If we had released and implemented the caste survey, it would have strengthened the backward class communities. These communities have been marginalised for a long time, and the survey could have paved the way for increased reservation for them,' Yathindra alleged that despite the potential of the survey to bring structural benefits to historically disadvantaged groups, some influential people from particular communities had opposed it. 'They have cited trivial reasons, like it is a 10-year-old survey, that the entire population wasn't covered and did not allow to implement it,' he added. His remarks come following the Karnataka Cabinet's unanimous decision to carry out a fresh Socio-Economic and Education Survey, popularly referred to as the 'Karnataka caste census', ten years after the original survey was undertaken in 2015. On June 12, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who had initiated the original survey during his previous tenure, said the decision followed recommendations from the state's Backward Classes Commission and legal provisions under the Backward Classes Act, 1995, which mandates a fresh survey every decade. advertisementPolitical shifts, including the refusal of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and later the BJP government to accept the 2015 report, delayed its implementation. With the final recommendations submitted in February this year, the Cabinet has now resolved to authorise a new survey to be completed within 90 days. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the updated survey would reflect changing demographics and socio-economic conditions, with provisions for online participation by Kannadigas outside the state. ‘Caste census report scrapped due to opposition from some sections in Karnataka'
MYSURU Days after the Congress government announced a fresh caste census in Karnataka, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah said the State Government was unable to implement the earlier report, which would have ensured more reservation to backward classes, due to opposition from certain sections. Addressing a public meeting at Karadikoppalu in Mandya on June 15, Mr. Yathindra said a comprehensive report had been submitted on the social, educational and economic condition of different castes after a survey was conducted during Mr. Siddaramaiah's earlier tenure as Chief Minister. 'If implemented, the backward classes, who have been denied of opportunities for a long period of time, would have got more reservation,' he said. But, the report could not be implemented due to strong opposition from certain sections that sought to raise 'small' objections, like the lapse of 10 years since the census was conducted (in 2015), he said. Pointing out that the survey will now have to be conducted afresh, Mr. Yathindra said the earlier report had showed that backward classes are in large numbers, accounting for more than 50% of the population, and adding up to about 75%, including Muslims. 'But, the opportunities for the backward classes were not in proportion to their population. So, the reservation for them should be increased,' he said. Mr. Yathindra said an increase in the quantum of reservation would benefit even Vokkaligas and Lingayats, as they are also 'shudras', and part of the backward classes. While the previous BJP government planned to snatch the 4% reservation from Muslims and give 2% each to Vokkaligas and Lingayats, the earlier caste census report would have ensured 3% to each, he added. Referring to the 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections among Forward Castes, the Congress MLC regretted that the same was implemented without any objection even though they account for just 4% of the population in Karnataka. He called upon the gathering to introspect and support only leaders who fought for their rights.

"We Could Have...": Siddaramaiah's Son Criticises Opposition To Caste Survey
Bengaluru: Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a member of the state legislative council, has strongly criticised the non-implementation of the caste census in the state, accusing dominant communities of stalling what he called efforts to empower backward classes. The Congress central leadership has ordered a new caste survey in Karnataka after the last survey conducted in 2015 during Siddaramaiah's previous term sparked controversy with many sections disputing the findings. The data, formally submitted in April this year, deepened the fault lines between the key Vokkaliga and Veerashaiva-Lingayat communities and other backward class communities. "If this caste survey had been implemented, it would have strengthened the backwards classes, and we could have given more reservations to them," Siddaramaiah junior said at a private event in Mysuru. "But some castes opposed it strongly. We couldn't fully implement it as they claimed it's been 10 years since the survey and raised other minor issues, and ensured it's not implemented. We are now having to do a fresh one," he added. He also pointed out that despite being influential, communities like Vokkaligas and Lingayats are also part of the backward classes and would have benefitted from increased reservation had the report been implemented. He also highlighted a perceived double standard in how demands for reservation increases are treated, stating that proposals for upper caste reservations face little opposition, whereas similar efforts for backwards classes are met with resistance. His comments add to the growing discourse around caste-based data and reservation reform in Karnataka. Last week, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar, announced a fresh survey after instructions from the Congress central leadership. They said the decision was taken to take everyone into confidence and ensure a detailed enumeration that will cover everyone and leave no scope for doubts.
