Business association praises Malaysia's role in Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia-Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) has commended Malaysia for its role in brokering an immediate ceasefire deal between Cambodia and Thailand, a move it said was critical to restoring peace and regional stability. "We extend our highest respect to Malaysia for the leadership demonstrated in facilitating this breakthrough," MCBA founding president Datuk Seri Ricky Yaw said in a statement. Yaw commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for being proactive in seeking a diplomatic solution in his capacity as Asean chair. He also praised Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai for their political foresight and courage to ensure peace. The deadly clashes between Cambodia and Thailand had killed 35 people and displaced over 200,000. Yesterday, Hun Manet and Phumtham agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Anwar announced the agreement following a special meeting in Malaysia involving Hun Manet and Phumtham Wechayachai, with Anwar serving as host and Asean Chair. "As a regional business association that promotes peace, trade, and investment, we firmly believe that economic growth must be grounded in mutual respect, regional cooperation, and long-term stability," Yaw said. "We urge all Asean member states to continue supporting diplomatic efforts and trust-building mechanisms to prevent further escalation and strengthen mutual understanding. "Peace is always the foundation of prosperity," he added.

Malaysia–Cambodia mission paves way for stronger trade and investment ties
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia–Cambodia Business Council (MCBC) has wrapped up its Malaysia–Cambodia Trade & Investment Mission 2025, paving the way for stronger bilateral ties and new cross-border business opportunities. MCBC founding president Datuk Sri Dr Ricky Yaw expressed optimism about the mission's long-term benefits, noting that it has already laid the foundation for collaboration among 20 business associations. "This mission has laid the groundwork for collaboration among 20 business associations and is already making an impact. We believe in growing together, not just economically, but as partners with a shared future," said Yaw in a statement. A key highlight of the evening was the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MoUs), marking a significant milestone in advancing regional cooperation. The Federation of Associations for SMEs of Cambodia formalised MoUs with 18 Malaysian business associations, including the Malaysia–Cambodia Business Association, SME Association of Malaysia, Malaysia Chinese Assembly Hall, and several others spanning diverse sectors from branding and electronics to furniture and sustainable supply chains. A parallel MoU was inked between the Cambodia Chinese Commerce Association and the same group of Malaysian associations to strengthen cross-border commercial linkages further. Additionally, a third MoU was signed between Sarana Law Firm, a leading Cambodian legal practice, and Manjit Singh Sachdev, Mohammad Radzi & Partners of Malaysia, aiming to boost legal cooperation and facilitate smoother business transactions. Ahead of the networking dinner, Yaw paid a courtesy call on Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace. Their discussion focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as education, healthcare, SMEs, construction, real estate and agricultural processing. Manet welcomed the Malaysian delegation's growing interest in Cambodia, reaffirmed the country's investor-friendly climate and highlighted the government's commitment to empowering SMEs and enhancing regional competitiveness. He also pointed to the recent launch of direct Phnom Penh–Penang flights by Cambodia Airways as an important catalyst for boosting business connectivity and tourism between the two countries. The mission featured a high-level business matching and networking dinner at the Sky Garden, Olympia City Hotel by Dara, officiated by Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce. The initiative reflects both nations' commitment to deepening trade and investment links while driving sustainable regional growth. The event gathered senior government representatives, prominent business leaders and key investors from Malaysia and Cambodia, creating a vibrant platform for forging strategic partnerships and meaningful dialogue. Representing Malaysian Ambassador Shaharuddin Onn, deputy chief of mission Nur Herazzila Ghazali reaffirmed Malaysia's trust in Cambodia as a strategic Asean partner. In her address, Nur Herazzila said the evening symbolised not only a business engagement but also a celebration of enduring friendship and shared growth. She also highlighted the important role of Malaysian investors in Cambodia's development and assured the embassy's continued support for closer economic collaboration. Samheng Bora welcomed the Malaysian delegation and commended the mission for strengthening ties between the private sectors of both countries. He underscored Cambodia's commitment to keeping its doors open to foreign investors through streamlined trade facilitation, investor-friendly policies and robust business support.

Business body seals pact to boost Malaysia-Cambodia bilateral trade, investments
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia–Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), involving 20 Malaysian industry associations. The MoU is part of the Malaysia-Cambodia trade and investment mission this year, which will culminate in a flagship event in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville from June 26–29. Speaking at the signing, MCBA founding president Datuk Seri Dr Ricky Yaw highlighted the unique opportunities Cambodia offers for Malaysian businesses. "Malaysian products are trustable, and this gives us an edge in the Cambodian market," he said. "We aim to bring Malaysian entrepreneurs to Cambodia and simultaneously attract Cambodian investments into Malaysia." Cambodia's less restrictive regulations for foreign business ownership and its growing population were noted as key factors that make it an attractive destination for Malaysian entrepreneurs. "There isn't much restriction to setting up a company in Cambodia. For example, you don't need to have a local partner and can wholly own the company. "The market is not fully developed, but it holds tremendous potential," he explained. The initiative focuses on industries such as engineering, furniture, small and medium enterprises and tourism. Yaw emphasised Malaysia's strengths in these sectors and their compatibility with Cambodia's development goals. "For instance, Malaysia has many furniture factories capable of exporting high-quality products to Cambodia," he said. We also see great potential in franchising opportunities such as fast food, which can cater to Cambodia's evolving consumer market," he continued. "Currently, we are collaborating with 20 associations, but our aim is to expand this network and include even more stakeholders moving forward," he stated. The MoU will remain in effect for one year, according to Yaw.
