NST Leader: Gaza ceasefire calls mean nothing without halting arms sales
FOREIGN ministers from 28 countries, mostly from the West, have condemned Israel for denying the Palestinians the human dignity they deserve, as they called for an immediate end to the atrocities there in a joint statement on Monday. Israel must comply with its obligation under international humanitarian law, it went on to state the obvious. Isn't the statement 21 months too late? Why wait until the Israelis killed 59,000 Palestinians to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza? And the irony is that some of the 28 countries are supplying weapons or weapon parts used to slaughter the Palestinians. Don't they realise the supply of arms is making them complicit in Israel's denial of Palestinian human dignity, not to mention their complicity in the genocide committed by the Zionist regime? Let's be blunt: these so-called seekers of human dignity for the Palestinians are standing on the wrong side of history. You just can't call on Israel to end the Gaza war — oh how they abuse the word — while supplying the genocidal regime with weapons. We have read such statements before, the most recent being in May — when the United Kingdom, France and Canada jointly threatened some unspecified action if Israel's onslaught continued. Expectedly, nothing happened and the Israelis went on to kill thousands of Palestinians. Even those who were desperately seeking food aid were not spared. On Monday, Israel launched a ground assault on Deir al-Balah, the main hub of humanitarian aid, a day after killing 81 starving Palestinians seeking food, media reports said. The joint statement may have been motivated by the killing of food aid seekers. The Israelis know that this statement, like the few that went before, was issued to appease a growing outrage among the domestic audience, including lawmakers. If these nations are truly interested in getting Israel to treat the Palestinians with human dignity that they deserve, they must do three things. One, stop supplying weapons to the genocidal Zionist regime. Two, hold Israeli leaders and their defence forces accountable for the genocide they are committing. Threatening or sanctioning the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant is a clear breach of international law. Three, stop giving diplomatic support to Israel until it civilises itself. We know that the United States doesn't care for the human dignity of the Palestinians, otherwise it wouldn't keep vetoing United Nations Security Council resolutions calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and West Bank. Or sanction the ICC and its officials or those who criticise Israel for the genocide it is committing. But nations like the UK and those in the European Union that peddle rules-based world order? These have seen the genocide of Palestinians livestreamed. They know, too, the ethnic cleansing intent of Netanyahu and his ministers. Is this the reason for the occasional statements, an attempt to cleanse the conscience? Again, they know, too, the "war" — the abused word again — didn't start on Oct 7, 2023. The catastrophe that is unfolding today was evident from the start of the stealth birth of Israel in 1948.

Israeli Defense Minister Declares Final Phase of Military Operations in Gaza and Yemen
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that military operations in Gaza and Yemen have entered their 'final phase,' during a high-level security briefing held Tuesday evening. 'The Israeli military is closer than ever to achieving the strategic objectives of this campaign,' Gallant stated, citing progress on multiple fronts including Gaza, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. The statement follows intensified Israeli airstrikes on Houthi positions near the Red Sea port of Al-Hudaydah, following a missile launched from Yemen toward southern Israel last week. In Gaza, Israeli forces continue to press forward with ground operations targeting militant infrastructure and leadership. Gallant emphasized the importance of maintaining aerial superiority, calling Operation Rising Lion a 'milestone achievement in Israel's defense doctrine.' He also reaffirmed Israel's commitment to neutralizing perceived threats from Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The defense minister's remarks come amid growing regional tensions and international calls for restraint. No formal timeline for the end of the operations was provided.

IDF Intercepts Drone Launched from Yemen Amid Rising Tensions
Aden – Israel's Defense Forces announced the interception of a drone launched from Yemeni territory on Monday, stating that the unmanned aircraft was destroyed before reaching its intended target. Military spokespersons confirmed that the drone posed a potential threat to southern infrastructure but was successfully neutralized without triggering air raid sirens. The operation reportedly relied on long-range air defense systems and real-time surveillance. The interception followed earlier claims by the Houthi group of a five-drone attack on Israeli sites. While Israeli officials have not confirmed the full extent of these attacks, they view the incident as a continuation of Iran-backed attempts to destabilize the region. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reiterated that Israel "will respond decisively to any threat from Yemen," and emphasized the government's coordination with international allies to address security challenges in the Red Sea and beyond.

Israel intercepts missile launch from Yemen
The Israeli army said Tuesday it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, a day after Israel carried out airstrikes on the Houthi militia–held port of Hodeidah. 'Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF,' the Israeli military said in a statement posted on Telegram. Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen have come under repeated Israeli strikes since the Iran-backed group began launching missile and drone attacks on Israel, declaring they act in solidarity with Palestinians over the Gaza war. Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Monday's strikes targeted 'sites of the Houthi terror regime at the port of Hodeidah' and aimed to prevent any attempt to restore previously damaged infrastructure. 'Yemen's fate will be the same as Tehran's,' he added. A Houthi security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that 'the bombing destroyed the port's dock, which had been rebuilt following previous strikes.' The Houthis have recently resumed deadly attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, targeting ships they accuse of having links to Israel in an effort to pressure Israel to end its war in Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Warns Houthis of Harsh Retaliation Following Missile Attacks
Aden – Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a stern warning to Yemen's Houthi movement, declaring that the group will face 'severe consequences' for its continued missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and maritime interests. Speaking after Israeli airstrikes reportedly hit Houthi military infrastructure in Yemen's Hodeidah port, Gallant stated, 'The fate of Yemen will mirror that of Tehran. We will act forcefully, anywhere and anytime, to protect Israel.' He emphasized that the Israeli Air Force had bombed facilities used to rebuild Houthi capabilities, including fuel tanks, engineering equipment, and vessels suspected of military use. The strikes come in response to recent Houthi claims of launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Eilat. The Israeli military confirmed intercepting several projectiles and accused the Houthis of escalating regional tensions under Iranian influence. Israel has reportedly urged the United States to resume joint military operations against the Houthis, citing the group's growing threat to Red Sea navigation and international shipping lanes. The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have framed their attacks as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. However, Israeli officials view the group's actions as part of a broader Iranian-backed axis seeking to destabilize the region.
