Elderly man dies after SUV crashes into utility pole in Luyang

Published on: Wed, Jul 02, 2025 Text Size: The crash scene. - Pic by JBPM KOTA KINABALU: A 67-year-old man was killed when his Toyota Land Cruiser crashed into an electric pole and fell into a drain near Wong Kok Restaurant along Jalan Damai-Luyang on Wednesday. The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 1pm and arrived at the scene five minutes later, with eight firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu station deployed. The victim, identified as Yong Ket Kong, was found trapped in the driver's seat and was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel. Firefighters extricated the body and handed it over to the police for further action.
