Illegal migrant dad burned himself, wife and two young children to death inside Utah home
An undocumented migrant set his house on fire, killing himself, his wife and their two young children as horrified neighbors watched the tragedy unfold, according to police. Yordano Valencia Pina reportedly started the fire in the Utah home on Friday, trapping his wife Jaimar Bravo Gil, 33, their son Juliano, 9, and daughter Yorgina, 14, inside. West Jordan neighbors who witnessed the inferno jumped into rescue efforts before authorities arrived at the scene. A man was seen on a video jumping a fence to try to get inside the $600,000 burning home and rescue the residents. The good Samaritans saw Yorgina, whose body was completely burned, trying to escape the house fire by crawling to a neighbor's yard. One of the neighbors, Robert Harlow, told ABC 4 the teen girl's eyes were burned shot as she fought for her life. She was reportedly yelling for help and saying she needed oxygen. Harlow said: 'It was the worst thing I've ever seen in real life.' Yorgina was airlifted to the hospital, where she later died, but not before telling police that her father was to blame for the fire. Harlow managed to save the family's dog, who became the only survivor of the fire. He said: 'I reached down, and I felt a dog on some stairs, trapped behind a child's gate... I ripped the gate out of the wall, grabbed the dog and took it out to the front yard. I felt like it was taking its last breaths.' Harlow suffered elevated carbon monoxide levels during the rescue efforts and was taken to the hospital. He has since fully recovered. West Jordan police said the fire was caused by arson after officials found a fire accelerant in the home. The family came to the U.S. from Venezuela about two years ago, as reported by ABC 4. Jaimar's family told the local outlet that she was being abused by her husband, but did not go to police because she was undocumented and feared deportation. He sister said: 'It wasn't just this weekend… it was many years of mistreatment.' The sister continued: 'I feel powerless. I feel powerless today. I feel destroyed. I feel many people could have done more.' Officials said there was one previous incident of domestic violence reported at the family's home. Police also revealed that Yordano had been pacing back and forth before there was an explosion in the home. Yordano reportedly also called his employer Friday to say he would be late to work and had been selling some of his possessions.
