Revisiting the music of Vanuatu's Yosh Shing, musician AND Olympian!
For our mid-week session of Nesia Daily, we wake up with a stack of Samoan music to keep the vibes going, as well as some great stories from the Vault. With Michael and Jacob still in Samoa ahead of launch of Pacific Break for 2025, Sose Fuamoli is back to host the show, checking in with Michael out in Apia. We revisit chats with phenomenal islander talent including Tahitian comedian, Christopher Pernat; Tongan visual and audio artist, Dr. Sione Faletau; award-winning PNG sports commentator and journalist, Jamie Haro; and Ni-Van Olympian and musician, Yosh Shing! Ni-Vanuatu table tennis Olympian Yosh Shing serves up his debut album
For Ni-Vanuatu musician and athlete Yosh Shing, the release of his debut album is the culmination of a life spent making music. Born and raised in Port Vila, Yosh was first taught guitar by his mother at just 10 years old — a passion that has served as an important connection to his home throughout his career as a three-time table tennis Olympian. "For me I think, table tennis must be the reason why I play music. It started with travelling overseas and the whole time I had my guitar with me," he told Nesia Daily. Yosh said a number of his songs were written while away from home competing at the Olympics or regional tournaments, and now, years later, he finally decided to lay them down on wax. Nesia Daily caught up with the artist before the release of his debut album Island Life to learn about his early beginnings in music, his life as an Olympic athlete, as well as what excites him about the next chapter as a musician.
