Cole's Tragic Death Was the Absolute Best Thing for Victoria on Young and the Restless
Happily ever after rarely plays out well on soaps. Once a couple unites and settles into domestic bliss, they face the dreaded doldrums. Their days of fun, front-burner action slowly disappear. That's why Cole's tragic death was the absolute best thing for Victoria on The Young and the Restless. Pre-Cole (J. Eddie Peck), Victoria (Amelia Heinle) was vibrant, spirited, and spunky. She was a shark in the boardroom, and a sexpot in the bedroom. Remember her sizzling affair with Nate (Sean Dominic)? Her cutthroat tactics to pull off a corporate coup? Victoria was a powerhouse and a force to be reckoned with in every area of her life; the daughter who made the great Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) proud. READ THIS: We can't stop watching these Y&R pets. But after getting back together with Cole (J. Eddie Peck), all of the above fell by the wayside. While the Victoria and Cole reunion was sweet and made good use of history–the pair discovered the daughter they believed had died was alive, reconciled after decades apart, and ultimately began planning a new life together–once their happiness materialized, there was nothing for them to do. Victoria, once a prominent player in Genoa City, was suddenly stagnant. She became nothing more than a sounding board for Claire (Hayley Erin), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Nick (Joshua Morrow) and the rest of the Newman family. She lost her edge and vivacity and was sadly transformed into a shell of her former self. WATCH THIS: Check out the Soap Hub Says Podcast! Actress Amelia Heinle, who's played the fiery Victoria since 2005, deserved better. She's a consummate actress. She's won two Daytime Emmy awards, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2014 and 2015, and has proven herself as a premier leading lady. Let's not forget that her onscreen pairing with the late Billy Miller (ex-Billy) produced one of the show's most popular and engaging couples ever. Now that Victoria is finally free of Cole, and after she goes through the normal mourning period, she'll have the chance to regroup and move forward. Perhaps the writers will toss her back into the business world full throttle, now that Victor has his hands full warding off Cane (Billy Flynn), who's plotting to acquire Newman Enterprises, Chancellor Industries, and Jabot. Teaming Victoria with her father and Adam (Mark Grossman) would create a formidable three-headed monster to go toe-to-toe with Cane. Once Victoria gets her business groove back, then the show can steer her into a new romance. She has plenty of old lovers to choose from, like Nate and Billy (Jason Thompson), or she could move forward in a totally different direction with someone new.

What Happened on Y&R Today? Cole's Death Shatters Claire and Victoria
In the July 2 episode of The Young and the Restless, Cole's battle for survival came to a heartbreaking end as he said his final goodbye to Victoria and Claire. Meanwhile, Tessa and Daniel shared a difficult conversation, and Mariah's actions continued to haunt her. At the hospital, Cole (J. Eddie Peck) held on to life long enough for Claire (Hayley Erin) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) to return to his side. They cherished every moment, with Cole expressing his love and gratitude for their time together, even as his life slipped away. Claire, overwhelmed by grief, begged him for more time, but Cole's condition had deteriorated beyond hope. With a final kiss from Victoria, Cole passed away, leaving behind a devastated family. Claire struggled to accept the loss, and she and Victoria shared memories of Cole, trying to hold onto the moments that mattered most. Later, Claire, unable to escape the weight of her emotions, called Kyle (Michael Mealor) and left him a message, mourning the father she had just found and lost. What Was the Point of Cole's Death on Young and the Restless?
Cole Howard died on the Thursday, July 3 episode of The Young and the Restless. J. Eddie Peck had played the character on and off since 1993. But the character had been on the canvas even earlier, back in 1980, when the boy played by N.P. Schoch was known as Charles… and he was thought to be the son of Victor Newman. Luckily, that turned out to be untrue, and paved the way for Cole and Victoria's romance… and the eventual discovery of their previously believed to be dead daughter, Claire. The revelation that Claire (Hayley Erin) was the long-lost Eve Nicole also brought Cole back to Genoa City, where he and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) kind of rekindled their romance… albeit off-screen. But, at long last, Claire had the parents she'd always wanted, Victoria and Cole had their daughter, and they were the happy family they'd always wanted to be. (Victoria's other kids, Reed, Johnny [Paxton Mishkind], and Katie [Sienna Marino], could either love it… or get shipped back off to boarding school.) So everything was great, if not particularly exciting. And then Cole died. Um… what? MORE: What happens next on Y&R. What was the point of bringing Cole back to Genoa City and the reunion with Victoria if he was just going to be written off again, this time for good? If the writers didn't want to include Cole in the fun, why not just ship him back to England, keep him in reserve in case they finally thought of something to do with him? Cole's death wasn't even particularly romantic. It, too, happened primarily off-screen. READ MORE: Here's what happened on today's Y&R. Maybe Cole's death is supposed to drive Victoria back to Nate (Sean Dominic) — they did have a sweet scene earlier in the week — and drive Claire away from Kyle (Michael Mealor) and into Holden's (Nate Owens) arms — the latter two also connected over her random, out of the blue anxiety attack (so Jordan [Colleen Zenk] didn't drive her to palpitations, but this did?). But was Cole's death necessary? Both of those things could have happened without the blink and you missed it demise. So what was the point of any of it? WATCH THIS: Check out Soap Hub's new podcast, Soap Hub Says, here!
