New Young Posse EP drops next month

Rising hip-hop girl group returns five months after special album 'Cold' Young Posse will be releasing its fourth EP, 'Growing Pain pt.1 : Free,' on Aug. 14, according to its agency DSP Media, Monday. The group's return comes just five months after the release of its special album, 'Cold,' in March. At midnight Sunday, Young Posse unveiled a schedule for the new album via its official social media accounts, signaling the start of promotion activities. The EP will drop at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 through major music streaming platforms. The schedule, filled with comic-like visuals of CDs, gloves, a cowboy hat, musical notes and cocktails, hints at a quirky concept in line with the group's unpredictable style. Young Posse also unveiled 'Off Route' ahead of the new release. In this series of mood films, the members challenge the norms in everyday settings with their playful, unconventional actions. Known for its rebellious image and traditional hip-hop sounds — as seen in tracks such as 'Macaroni Cheese,' 'XXL' and 'Ate That' — the group has been called the 'daughter of Korean hip-hop' for its fresh and daring take on the genre. Young Posse has continued to expand its global presence since its October 2023 debut, demonstrating its reach with a successful US tour and events in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Young Posse returns with cinematic music

Known for its intense hip-hop sound, Young Posse strikes sentimental chord Five-member K-pop group Young Posse has returned with cinematic storytelling and music. "Cold," the group's special album released Sunday, consists of seven tracks, including the title track and its accompanying music video, starring Young Posse members and Taiwanese actor Jing Hua Tseng. The visually striking music video, filled with rich color palettes, was filmed in Taiwan. 'The album carries an unexpected storyline and atmosphere, which surprised many people. I believe this will showcase a new side of Young Posse. One comment that really stuck with me likened the music video to ice cream, saying that it shows how the world can be cold and sweet at the same time,' said Sunhye, the group's leader, at a press conference held Tuesday following the release of the special album on Sunday. 'Jing Hua Tseng plays the male lead, Oscar, while Doeun and I take on the roles of the female leads. The story follows a pair of siblings, abandoned by their father, who plot revenge," said Yeonjung, expressing hope that people enjoy the music as a soundtrack to the video. Doeun, who took on her first acting role for the music video, thanked her co-star. 'It was my first time acting in a drama-style production, but Jing Hua Tseng translated his lines into Korean and spoke in Korean throughout the shoot, which helped ease my nerves.' The title track 'Cold' starts with a modern rock-inspired electric guitar riff before expanding into a grand orchestral arrangement. The song captures the feelings of loneliness caused by emotional distance in relationships. Singer-songwriter 10CM, known for his unique vocal tone, features on the track, adding depth to its melancholic atmosphere. The album also includes 'Cold (YPS Colder ver.),' a rearranged version with a more chilling tone and a stronger focus on the members' vocals to create a full-circle story as the seventh and final track. Why has the album been designated a "special album"? "Unlike our previous releases, which focused on Young Posse's own story, this one revolves around the theme of 'Cold," said Sunhye, noting that the members challenged themselves with the hip-hop ballad of the title track. "We plan to continue exploring new styles," she added. While the title track leans toward a hip-hop ballad, Doeun emphasized that the album still contains the classic, intense hip-hop tracks that Young Posse is known for. 'I really hope people listen to all seven tracks in the album and explore the wide spectrum of music in it.' Having debuted in October 2023, Young Posse may be a rookie group, but it has already performed at several festivals and earned positive reviews for its stage presence. Looking ahead, Sunhye shared the group's ambitions: 'We dream of performing at major music festivals like Coachella or Lollapalooza. Our goal this year is to grow into artists who can own those stages."

Blackpink Jisoo's next drama will be on Netflix: report

Blackpink member Jisoo's next drama series, "Monthly Boyfriend," will be streamed on Netflix, according to a local media report Friday. The singer and actor has been shooting the fantasy romance drama opposite Seo Inguk, who also branched into acting after debuting as a singer. Jisoo returned Friday from filming in Cebu, Philippines, in time for the release of her first solo EP, 'Amortage.' The four-track mini album comes about two years after her solo debut single 'Flower,' which was the first million-selling album from a K-pop female soloist. Along with the album's release, Jisoo unveiled the music video for the main track 'Earthquake,' in which she appeared with veteran actor Cha Seung-won. The drama 'Monthly Boyfriend' will premiere next year. Girl group Young Posse will return early next month, said agencies RBW Entertainment, DSP Media and Beats Entertainment Friday. The group will showcase a different range of charms in the upcoming effort, added the companies. The release comes nearly eight months after its third EP 'Ate That' which -- along with its second EP 'XXL' -- earned the hip-hop group two trophies from year-end music award shows in 2024. After dropping the album, the group will visit five cities in Texas as an extension of its 2024 US tour that brought the members to 12 US cities but did not include the southern state.

G-Dragon, 2NE1 to headline HITC 2025

Iconic K-pop stars to take the stage in LA K-pop icons G-Dragon and 2NE1 are set to headline one of the biggest global festivals for Asian artists in the US. Asian-American entertainment company 88rising has unveiled the lineup for "Head In The Clouds Los Angeles 2025," which will take place at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on May 31 and June 1. The festival's other headliners include Korean rapper Dean and Korean Australian R&B singer DPR Ian along with his crew. HITC is 88rising's flagship festival, launched to introduce Asian artists to a global audience. Over the years, the event has grown into one of the most influential music festivals featuring Asian acts. Last year's HITC LA lineup included Young Posse and (G)I-dle, drawing significant attention from K-pop fans worldwide. Ahead of the festival, G-Dragon will make his long-awaited return with his third LP, "Ubermensch," set for release on Feb. 25 — marking his first studio album in 11 years and 5 months. The album title, inspired by Nietzsche's philosophy, reflects G-Dragon's ambition to evolve into an even stronger and more formidable presence. Fans are eagerly anticipating his performance, expecting new tracks from the album to be included in his setlist. Despite his hiatus, G-Dragon has already made waves with two prerelease singles—"Power" and "Home Sweet Home"—both of which have dominated domestic and international charts. "Power" has surpassed 100 million streams on YouTube Music, proving his global influence. Meanwhile, 2NE1 has been touring since last year, marking the group's 15th debut anniversary. The quartet's 12-city "Welcome Back" Asia tour has drawn 220,000 spectators through 27 shows. Before hitting the HITC stage, the group will conclude the tour with a grand encore concert at KSPO Dome in Seoul on April 12-13.
