'Apart from such workshops like today, many other programmes have been planned and will be organised in the future, particularly in the areas of sports science, sports technology and sports medicine, as they proved to play a very important role to produce world-class and calibre athletes,' he said. He also stressed the importance of support from all parties concerned in order to achieve the target. 'It is a heavy responsibility for us in the Ministry, and only with a strong entity together with all the coaches, sports officials, support from the Health and Education departments, athletes, sponsors and parents that we can successfully achieve this great mission,' he added. Meanwhile, a total of 24 officials took part in the workshop jointly organised by Sabah Sports Council and the Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Unit of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital. The five-day session covering 10 topics was conducted by Muhd Faisal Akmal Osman (Hospital Kuala Penyu), Dr Kiran Kandiah (Hospital Queen Elizabeth I), Mohd Shahdan Ahmad Asri and Siti Zuraidah Hanib (National Sports Institute) and Grace Pun Nyuk Fung (Sarawak Health Department). Mansur also urged the participants to utilise their knowledge learnt and help prevent the risk of injury to the athletes under their care and subsequently help to improve their ability. 'This workshop is part of our preparation to strengthen the support, recovery and sports massage aspects for our athletes who will be taking part in the 22nd Sukma in Selangor next year as well as to the elite athletes who will participate in national and international championships,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
