124 employees affected by pending Ohio Eagle Distributing sale to Heidelberg
Jul. 10—Ohio Eagle Distributing has entered into a sale agreement with Heidelberg Distributing, which, if closed, will affect the employment of 124 employees in West Chester Twp., according to the company. Heidelberg, though, is "committed to retaining as many of our talented team members as possible and looks forward to welcoming them into their organization," according to a statement from Ohio Eagle. The wholesale Anheuser-Busch, Constellation, Yuengling and local craft beer supplier will close on or about Sept. 8 at 9300 Allen Road in West Chester Twp. and at its other facility in Lima. A total 178 employees of Ohio Eagle Distributing will be impacted, including 54 employees at the Lima facility. Employees at the West Chester Twp. facility are represented by Teamster Local Union 1199. Because Ohio Eagle will be permanently ceasing operations, any bumping rights provided by collective bargaining agreements are not applicable. Ohio Eagle was founded in 2015 after Col. John Saputo purchased Dickerson Distributing Company, a family-owned Monroe business that had operated since 1934. The company acquired Clermont Distributing in 2018 and added five additional counties to its Anheuser-Busch territory. In 2022, Ohio Eagle purchased AB Sales of Lima from Anheuser-Busch and added nine counties to its coverage.

America's Oldest Brewery, Yuengling, Announces Expansion
America has a love for beer that has been a part of the country's culture for centuries now. It's an industry that's growing, too, with the Brewers Association noting that in 2022, the number of breweries in America hit an all-time high of 9,552, including 2,035 microbreweries, 3,418 brewpubs, 3,838 taproom breweries and 261 regional craft breweries. Also in 2022, the number of U.S. breweries operating was 9,709, an increase from 9,384 in 2021. So, the beer industry is a big one. Now, America's oldest brewery is expanding into an area it's never been before in August. D. G. Yuengling & Son was founded in 1829 and is the oldest operating brewing company in the U.S. The story of Yuengling, the company describes, is "a tale of shared dreams, individual tenacity and an unwavering dedication to standards of quality." Yuengling continued, "Like many American stories it starts amid the dreams of countless young immigrants looking for opportunity and emerges from the strength and will of one family determined to build their legacy in a new country." Yuengling added, "The story of America's Oldest Brewery began when David G. Yuengling arrived from Wuerttemberg Germany to settle in the sleepy, coal-mining town of Pottsville, Pennsylvania." From there, the brewery has expanded over the years, with locations in Pennsylvania and Florida and beer available at select spots throughout the country. It's still a family-owned business. Now, Yuengling beer will be available in Michigan. Eastown Distributors shared news of the development, posting on Facebook on June 5 that Yuengling is "Coming to the D August 11, 2025," as in Detroit. The Motor City is one of the cities where Yuengling will be available, and a full roster of locations and release dates is forthcoming. Michigan beer drinkers responded to the news with excitement. "Awesome news way to go Eastown," one follower shared on the Facebook post. Yuengling beer expands to Michigan starting Aug. 11
It's the moment Michigan beer lovers have been waiting for — and no, you're not being punked this time. Yuengling, America's oldest brewery, is officially coming to the Great Lakes state this summer. Eastown Distributors, based in northeast Wayne County and one of the companies selected to distribute the beer in Michigan, confirmed the news on Friday, June 6. "Beer drinkers in the state of Michigan have been anticipating this for years," an Eastown Distributors spokesperson told the Free Press. Detroit is among the cities where Yuengling will be available, starting on Aug. 11. A full list of locations and availability dates across the state has yet to be announced. D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. was founded in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, in 1829 by David G. Yuengling. It remains family-owned. The company has flirted with expanding to Michigan before, fueling hopes and sparking rumors that never quite panned out. That history made some long-skeptical Michiganders cautious even as the news broke out.
