From BTS To SHINee: 6 K-pop Idols Who Didn't Like Their Title Tracks
Even in the early days of K-pop, our favourite idol groups released multiple groundbreaking hits that cemented their status in the Korean entertainment industry. This trend continued across future generations, with a number of idols reaching significant milestones and earning the title of legends. However, despite releasing some truly iconic tracks, did you know that some members — or even entire groups — didn't actually like the songs themselves? It might seem unusual to dislike a hit, but here are instances where idols have expressed their confusion, dissatisfaction or straight-up hate for their title tracks: 1. Girls' Generation Taeyeon – 'GEE' When you think of Girls' Generation (SNSD), one of the first songs that likely comes to mind is 'Gee'. The track became an instant hit upon its release in 2009 and, along with its colourful music video, went on to become one of the group's most iconic songs. However, member Taeyeon has said in multiple interviews how she had doubts about the single as she wanted to explore a more mature sound at the time. It wasn't until the 2021 interview with VOGUE that she started to appreciate the song more after reflecting on the impact it had on the K-pop industry and their career. 2. BTS – 'Dynamite' The song that lifted K-pop fans' spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic, 'Dynamite', was BTS' first fully English-language track and quickly became one of their most iconic releases. However, Jin revealed on a variety show that the members initially felt distant from the song, admitting that out of all the demos presented to them, 'Dynamite' was simply the one they disliked the least. In another interview, the members also shared that singing in English felt unnatural for them. However, the song turned out to be exactly what their fans needed during quarantine — and that, ultimately, was what the group had hoped to achieve. 3. I-DLE Yuqi – 'Senorita' As seen in the video above, there have been moments where I-DLE (formerly (G)I-DLE) member Yuqi appeared to show some discontent towards the group's song 'Senorita'. While much of it may have been in jest, fans have speculated that she isn't particularly fond of the track, possibly due to her lines being largely limited to the '유후후후후후후후후' vocalisation towards the end of the song. 4. SHINee Key – 'Ring Ding Dong' It's basically impossible not to think of 'Ring Ding Dong' whenever SHINee is mentioned. The intro, the chorus, the choreography, and the outfits were simply everything back in the day when it was first released. The song was basically an earworm, and sadly, that's the reason why one of the members ended up being a little too fed up with it. On the same show where Taeyeon shared her thoughts on 'Gee', Key shared his experience promoting his group's most famous song. 'It wasn't a problem of personal taste, but I had a difficult time during 'Ring Ding Dong'. Everywhere I went, I heard the song playing. I didn't even want to hear the song's name. I think I heard it over a million times. I would be sitting in a quiet car, but it would be playing in my head.' 5. STAYC – 'Teddy Bear' During their appearance on the 'Knowing Bros' show, members of STAYC shared some behind-the-scenes secrets about their album 'Teddy Bear'. It turned out the group weren't so confident about the title song when it was first presented to them, but their producer insisted that it would be a hit. It wasn't until they started practising the choreography that they were finally convinced that the song would do well. 6. TWICE – 'Signal' & 'Cheer Up' TWICE has released a number of hit songs over the years, but that doesn't mean the members have loved every single one. In a radio interview, they revealed that they were initially confused when they first heard 'Signal', not realising it would be chosen as their title track. The group expressed concerns about the song, as it differed significantly from their usual concepts, but Sana believed it would be a hit. They also shared that they had a similar reaction when first hearing the demo for 'Cheer Up'. Since that track turned out to be a huge success, they decided to place their trust in the team and worked hard to prepare for 'Signal''s release. And the rest, as they say, is history. Overzealous fans: Chen Zheyuan left stunned by woman's hug at event, I-dle's Yuqi mobbed at Macau airport, Entertainment News
At a beauty brand event in Xi'an, China, on June 16, Chinese actor Chen Zheyuan was all smiles until an uncomfortable interaction with a fan on the job. In a video circulating on Chinese social media, the 28-year-old was on the stage taking pictures with a group of female sales staff when one of them rushed to his side to give him a tight hug. The video then zooms in to show Zheyuan clamming up, looking visibly unnerved and leaning away in response. The woman did not let go until a male staff member pulled her away. Following the incident, an apology allegedly from the woman made its rounds on Weibo. "As your fan for many years, I have always loved and admired you. During this brand event, I was too excited and failed to control my behaviour. I also ignored your physical condition and did not realise the professionalism I should have as a staff member. I have caused great trouble to you and those who care about you, and I feel deeply guilty. "In this regard, the company has given me stern education and criticism. I will also reflect deeply, strictly regulate my own behaviour, and prevent such incidents from happening again. I am willing to bear all responsibility for this incident. Once again, I sincerely apologise to you and the fans who care about you." In January, Zheyuan revealed he had surgery for a bone fracture. The apology drew mixed reactions from netizens online, with a Weibo user critiquing: "You're apologising after telling lies? Liking someone doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. An actor's life is also his life." A Facebook user came to the defence of the woman: "It's okay, your apology is accepted. I'm sure you're not the only one, especially when you see your idol. Better behave next time." Zheyuan is well-known for his roles in the coming-of-age drama Our Secret (2021) and Hidden Love (2023). On June 13, he was appointed as the International Global Ambassador of the Chinese streaming service iQiyi. [[nid:710080]] I-dle's Yuqi mobbed at Macau airport Yuqi's departure from South Korea went smoothly, but upon landing at Macau International Airport on June 17, she was mobbed. On the way to her flight at Incheon International Airport, the China-born singer from K-pop girl group I-dle seemed at ease, walking leisurely while chatting with a fan. However, the 25-year-old arrived in Macau and was immediately mobbed by a large crowd of eager fans. One got close to her in an attempt to get a completed hand-heart, which appeared to have caught Yuqi off-guard as she cowered and backed away quickly. A staff member proceeded to block her away from oncoming fans as she tried to exit to a waiting vehicle. A young boy also tapped Yuqi's back in a bid to get her attention. Netizens in the comments expressed their distaste. "Is it really necessary to chase stars like this?" said one netizen. "These people are so scary, their cameras are so close to her," remarked another. Yuqi was in Macau to film the Chinese variety show Keep Running. Why K-pop Group I-DLE Dropped The ‘G' From Their Name
Earlier this month, K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE ((여자)아이들) surprised fans when they announced a rebrand on their 7th anniversary, subsequently dropping the 'G' and '여자 (Yeoja/ female)' from their group name. Now going as I-DLE (아이들), the quintet revealed why they decided to make that shocking move. On 19th May 2025 (Monday), the girl group held a press conference for their new album, 'We Are'. During the press conference, the group discussed their album and explained their decision to rebrand as I-DLE. Member Miyeon (미연) said the move aligned with how the group wanted to be represented, saying, 'I always found the 'female' label in parentheses a bit odd since our debut. It feels like we've finally claimed our true identity and name.' The group reportedly wanted to broaden their musical style and concepts, choosing to remove the female imagery in their old name as they felt it limited their music. However, member Yuqi (우기) admitted that the group needed time to readjust to the new name, saying, 'I recently made a mistake when introducing the group name out of habit. I hope the public will get used to the new name along with us.'. Along with the rebrand, the group re-recorded nine of their past singles, which sparked mixed reactions from fans. As the new versions no longer contain vocals from former member Soojin (수진), many perceived the move as erasing the vocalist's existence in I-DLE's discography. The group also shifted their long-running 'I' album series, which began with their debut album, to a new 'We' theme, symbolising unity and shared narratives. 'We Are' is also significant as it's the first album in I-DLE's discography where every member contributed to the lyrics and compositions. Previously, leader Soyeon (소연) was the one in charge of producing, writing and composing most of the group's songs. She shared her thoughts about the new creative direction, saying, 'I was a bit worried about whether we could pull it off, but it turned out to be a fun and meaningful experience.' I-DLE's comeback marks a fresh chapter in their career and highlights their desire to continue to grow and reinvent themselves as artists.
