Seahawks fear season-ending injury for Kenny McIntosh from training-camp practice
The Seahawks fear a season-ending injury to one of their backs who was part of their new emphasis on running the ball this year. The News Tribune was told the team fears Kenny McIntosh tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Saturday in a non-contact injury. The Seahawks coaches and medical staff are awaiting further tests, including an MRI this weekend. A torn ACL would mean the end of McIntosh's 2025 season before it began. The third-year running back, Seattle's seventh-round draft choice in 2023 from Georgia, was running in open field alongside teammate Tyler Hall during a special-teams coverage and tackle-angle drill when his knee gave out. He stayed on the ground many minutes. Coach Mike Macdonald, fellow running back Zach Charbonnet and three athletic trainers bent down to comfort McIntosh. When they helped him to his feet, McIntosh loudly yelped trying to put any weight on his left leg. The trainers then fireman-carried his left leg as they assisted him off the field directly into the team training room. Running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu followed McIntosh and the trainers inside. When Polamalu came out, Macdonald came over to talk to him. They both shook their heads, obviously distraught. McIntosh has been the Seahawks' third running back the last two seasons, behind lead rusher Kenneth Walker and Charbonnet. Seattle drafted Damien Martinez from Miami in the seventh round this spring. The rookie will now gain in prominence with McIntosh out. George Holani, an undrafted rookie last year who spent much of the 2024 season on Seattle's practice squad, is the only other returning running back on the roster.

Seahawks urged to trade offensive star for draft picks
There's one Seattle Seahawks star who has been the frequent subject of recent trade rumors. That's running back Kenneth Walker. Another writer, Bleacher Report's Matt Holder, has hopped aboard the Walker trade train, too. He thinks the Seahawks should specifically trade Walker in exchange for future draft assets. "Walker is entering a contract year and has had declining production since his rookie season," Holder writes. "Meanwhile, Zach Charbonnet was more efficient in 2024, averaging half a yard more per carry than Walker. Also, Damien Martinez has the makings of being a steal as a seventh-round pick. The Seahawks might want to see how the running backs look in training camp before being completely comfortable making a move. But, especially if he doesn't have a future with the club, getting something for the 2022 second-round pick wouldn't be a bad idea." There's almost no chance the Seahawks give Walker a hefty contract, so moving on now might really be the correct call. PFF: Seahawks have top-5 backfield in NFL
The Seattle Seahawks struggled to run the football last season. The ground game finished 28th in the league, averaging 95.7 yards per contest. It wasn't due to a lack of talent in the backfield, with both Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet being effective in doses. Poor offensive line play and inexperienced play-calling didn't help the Seahawks establish the run. An injury to Walker also left the backfield occasionally shorthanded. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is hoping to implement a ground-and-pound approach. Pro Football Focus recently ranked every running back room in the NFL. Somewhat surprisingly given last season's results, the Seahawks' backfield placed fifth. "Seattle quietly possesses one of the NFL's deepest running back rooms," Dalton Wasserman wrote. "That unit includes Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh and seventh-round rookie Damien Martinez. Walker tied for fourth in the NFL with a 91.3 PFF rushing grade last season, though he appeared in only 11 games. Charbonnet also placed among the top 20 with his 78.8 PFF rushing grade. Martinez could be an interesting addition to the unit after ranking third in the FBS with a 94.4 PFF rushing grade at Miami last season." Adding Damien Martinez to the room improved the overall standing. The Seahawks also have terrific depth, with Kenny McIntosh giving the Seahawks four NFL-caliber options. The Seahawks desperately need to improve their rushing attack in 2025.
