Tumpat tops list in Sekolah Angkat Madani rollout
TUMPAT: The district of Tumpat has recorded the highest number of schools nationwide selected under the Education Ministry's Sekolah Angkat Madani (Samadani) programme.
Tumpat PKR division chief Zamakh Sari Ibrahim said a total of 25 schools in the district had been chosen to participate in the initiative, comprising 19 primary and six secondary schools.
He said each school would receive an allocation of RM100,000 this year from the ministry.
"This allocation will benefit more than 5,000 students, including those attending schools in rural areas.
"It will be channelled towards infrastructure upgrades and the implementation of student excellence programmes," he said.
Zamakh added that Tumpat's inclusion of 25 schools made it the top district in Malaysia in terms of the number of schools selected under the programme.
On June 20, it was reported that nearly 900 schools across the country had joined the government's Sekolah Angkat Madani initiative, aimed at narrowing the education gap and supporting underserved communities.
The programme, introduced under the Madani Economy framework, is on track to reach its target of 1,000 participating schools by year-end.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the initiative reflected the government's commitment to ensuring no child is left behind, particularly in rural and under-resourced areas.
He said that the programme built on the success of Kampung Angkat Madani and Santuni Madani, which proves that direct, collaborative efforts are effective in reaching those most in need.
