Modern Sport sign former Zamalek goalkeeper Abou Gabal - Egyptian Football

Egyptian Premier League side Modern Sport have announced the signing of former Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with NBE Club this summer. Abou Gabal joined NBE Club in September 2022 after a move to Saudi side Al-Nassr fell through, completing a free transfer from Zamalek. The 36-year-old goalkeeper made just one appearance for NBE last season after recovering from knee ligament surgery. The former Enppi and Smouha shot-stopper gained widespread recognition for his instrumental role in Egypt's run to the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He stepped in for Ahly's injured Mohamed El-Shennawy, and his performances helped the Pharaohs reach the final, where they were narrowly defeated by Senegal in a penalty shootout. Abou Gabal, who is affectionately known as "Gabaski," also featured for Egypt in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as El-Shennawy's replacement. After starting his professional career with Enppi in 2010, Abou Gabal went on to become Zamalek's first-choice goalkeeper, following his standout performances at the 2021 AFCON. Modern Sport narrowly avoided relegation last season after the Egyptian Pro League decided to cancel relegation for the current campaign. The Cairo-based club also appointed Magdy Abdel-Atty as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng, Saleng, New striker

The chances of Orlando Pirates losing Relebohile Mofokeng have dramatically increased in the last few weeks as several suitors show interest. Another cause for concern is his father's latest comments stating that he is destined for Europe this offseason. African giants Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Maccabi Tel Aviv have all shown interest in the rising star. Across the pond, MLS club FC Cincinnati is the latest club to have inquired for the 20-year-old sensation. Meanwhile, a Monnpaule Saleng exit has seemed inevitable following his six-month exile. However, speculation is growing as to whether he will stay following the arrival of Abdeslam Ouaddou – if the coach wants to keep him, there's no reason why he couldn't sway the club and player to make up. Regarding a new signing, Orlando Pirates have reportedly put pen to paper with Richards Bay attacker Yanela Mbuthuma. The 23-year-old is said to have signed a five-year deal. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba, Mofokeng's father, said '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' he added. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Ahly, Pyramids FC play in Champions League, Zamalek, Masry in Confederation Cup: EFA to CAF - Egyptian Football

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Sunday that they informed the Confederation of African football (CAF) with the names of the Egyptian Clubs that will participate in the major continental tournaments next season. According to an EFA statement, Ahly and Pyramids FC would participate in the CAF Champions League as the holders and runners-up of the Egyptian Premier League 2024/2025 season, respectively. Meanwhile, Zamalek and Masry will play in the CAF Confederation Cup. The White Knights are Egypt Cup winners, while the Port Said-based club ended the league competition in fourth place. The new season of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup will kick off next September. Pyramids FC recently won the Champions League title after beating South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the final. Meanwhile, the 12-time African Champions Ahly were eliminated from the semi-final. On the other hand, Zamalek was eliminated from the quarter-final of the Confederation Cup last season, while Masry also said goodbye in the same round. Orlando Pirates news: Angolan attacker, Zimbabwean star, Mofokeng exit

Orlando Pirates are eyeing some exciting prospects. However, they could see starboy Relebohile Mofokeng go the other way. A R25.8 million bid from Egyptian giants Zamalek in January was early warning signs that several clubs will be trying their luck at signing the 20-year-old phenom, who many claim to have been Pirates' best player this season. Causing more concern for Orlando Pirates fans is Mofokeng's father, who believes now is the right time for his son to leave South Africa. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia.' 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng. Angolan forward Laurindo Depu Aurelio is another player on their radar, who also has interest from rivals Kaizer Chiefs. 'What I can tell you is that both teams had their scouts there. The scouts were all happy with what they saw in Depu and they enquired about him,' a source confirmed. 'Apparently Kaizer Chiefs wanted their defender Inacio Miguel to help them talk to the player and his representatives. And Orlando Pirates also believed to be willing to talk to the player. They have their different reasons but apparently the scouts from both clubs are happy with what they saw.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
