'Street Fighter' characters promote Japan's Asuka-Fujiwara sites for World Heritage status

KASHIHARA, Nara -- "Street Fighter" game characters are promoting the Asuka-Fujiwara archaeological sites in west Japan's Nara Prefecture to gain World Heritage status. In an effort to boost momentum for the registration of the Japanese ancient capital sites as cultural World Heritage in summer 2026, the Kashihara Municipal Government has installed 10 promotional flags featuring illustrations of characters from the popular video game "Street Fighter" on street lights along the sidewalk of National Route 165 in the city. The flags measure 110 centimeters in height and 50 centimeters in width. They feature characters striking poses against a backdrop of photos from the Fujiwara Palace ruins, one of the component assets, along with the phrase "Asuka-Fujiwara to World Heritage." Each flag has different designs on both sides, showcasing a total of 20 characters. The Asuka-Fujiwara promotion initiative, undertaken jointly with the village of Asuka, the city of Sakurai and Nara Prefecture, is reaching a critical stage with on-site inspections expected this summer or fall. In 2022, the city of Kashihara signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Capcom Co., a major video game company based in Osaka, and has since incorporated Street Fighter into local development efforts. The characters featured on the flags are: Dhalsim, Zangief, Akuma, M. Bison, Chun-Li, E. Honda, Guile, Dee Jay, Ryu, Ken Masters, Juri, Cammy, Lily, Kimberly, Manon, Marisa, Jamie, Luke, Rashid and Ed.

Braun Strowman Pitches The Perfect Role For Himself In The Street Fighter Movie

Former WWE star Braun Strowman wants a role in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, and he's got the perfect one in mind. Recent reports revealed that Roman Reigns is one of the top names being considered for a role in the live-action adaptation of the iconic Street Fighter video game franchise. Alongside Reigns, Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, and Andrew Koji. They all are also reportedly in talks for roles in the film, which Legendary Pictures is producing. Casting decisions have not yet been finalized. However, amid the buzz surrounding Reigns' potential casting, Braun Strowman expressed his interest in joining the Street Fighter movie. He reacted to the news by taking to X, formerly Twitter. He hinted he wants to play Zangief. Strowman does bear a slight resemblance to Zangief, aka the 'Red Cyclone' from the Street Fighter series. He wouldn't have to change much, aside from trimming up his beard and growing a uniquely shaped patch of chest hair. (But hey, prosthetics are available too!) Zangief first appeared in Street Fighter II. He is a Russian character with a pro wrestling and Sambo background that has continued to appear in each of the mainline editions of the legendary video game series, along with other spinoffs. 'Cough cough Zangief……Me…….. cough cough cough!!!!!,' Strowman wrote on Twitter/X. Related: Earlier this month, WWE released nearly 20 talents from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. The list included Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, Dakota Kai, Katana Chance, and Kayden Carter. NXT stars like Cora Jade, Eddy Thorpe, Riley Osborne, and Gigi Dolin were also let go. WWE released Strowman again. However, a recent project he filmed with USA Network is still on track for later this year. The Wrap recently announced that Strowman will be getting his own food-related show this fall. The description of the show is as follows: 'Braun Strowman as he eats his way across America in 'Everything On The Menu with Braun Strowman' on USA Network.'
