Zayn Rayyan's mother clarifies WhatsApp message in court
PETALING JAYA: The mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin clarified in court that a WhatsApp message containing the phrase 'lantaklah nak hidup ke nak mati' was meant for herself, not her six-year-old son. Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, explained that the message was sent to her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, during a moment of distress while searching for their missing child at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, on Dec 5, 2023. 'The message was not aimed at my son. I was frantic and desperate for my husband's help at that time,' she said during the defence trial. The court heard that the message was retrieved from her iPhone during the investigation into Zayn Rayyan's death. A close friend of Ismanira, Umi Syafiqah Rohizal, testified that she had never seen the couple neglect their children. 'She was always careful with them, holding their hands when walking around the apartment,' Umi said. The couple was initially charged with neglecting their autistic son under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. However, the husband was acquitted, while Ismanira was ordered to enter her defence. The trial continues on Aug 4. - Bernama

Whatsapp Message Referred To Myself, Not Son, Says Zayn Rayyan's Mother
PETALING JAYA, July 24 (Bernama) -- Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's mother told the Sessions Court today that a WhatsApp message saying 'lantaklah nak hidup ke nak mati' ('don't care whether to live or die') was directed at herself and not her six-year-old son. Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, said the message was sent to her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, in a moment of panic and emotional distress while searching for their missing child at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, on Dec 5, 2023. 'The content of hashtag eight (referring to the WhatsApp conversation) was not aimed at my son. On that day, I was anxious, frantic and distraught while searching for my missing child and desperately needed my husband's attention. 'I sent those words, urging him to come home quickly and help me. It was about me,' she said in response to a supplementary question by her counsel, Haresh Mahadevan, on the fourth day of the defence trial in the child neglect case involving the deceased. On April 7, prosecution witness ASP Mohd Zaidi Abu Hassan, a cybercrime analyst with the Royal Malaysia Police Forensic Lab, testified that several WhatsApp messages were retrieved from the mobile phones of two individuals linked to Zayn Rayyan. Mohd Zaidi testified that an iPhone registered under Ismanira Abdul Manaf and a Huawei phone linked to a Google account in Zaim Ikhwan Zahari's name were seized during the investigation into the death of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin. He said a WhatsApp message containing the phrase 'lantaklah nak hidup ke nak mati' was found and timestamped around noon on Dec 5, 2023. Meanwhile, Ismanira's close friend, Umi Syafiqah Rohizal, 30, testified that she had never seen the accused leave her two children, Zayn Rayyan and his younger brother, unsupervised at the playground or around their apartment complex. The fourth defence witness said she had often seen Ismanira holding the boys' hands while walking from Block R to the motorcycle parking area between Blocks R and S.

Zayn Rayyan's mum denies ‘live or die' message was about her son
Ismanira Abdul Manaf arriving at the Petaling Jaya sessions court today. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin told the sessions court today that a WhatsApp message she sent her husband on the day their son went missing, which included the phrase 'don't care whether live or die', was in reference to herself – and not Zayn. During examination, Ismanira Abdul Manaf's lawyer Haresh Mahadevan asked her to clarify the meaning of the message. 'Those words were about me,' she said. 'I wasn't referring to my son. I was panicked, sad and rushing around trying to find him. 'I really needed my husband's attention, so I sent him that message to get him to immediately come home and help me.' Ismanira, 30, was testifying in her defence against a charge of neglecting her six-year-old autistic child in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. The offence allegedly occurred at PJU Damansara Damai between noon on Dec 5, 2023, when the boy was said to have gone missing, and 9.55pm the following day, when his body was discovered in a stream near his home at Apartment Idaman at Damansara Damai. On Monday, Ismanira's husband Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 30, was acquitted of the same charge after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against him. Previously, an analyst from the police forensics lab, Zaidi Abu Hassan, testified that he had extracted WhatsApp messages from two phones allegedly belonging to the couple which included the said message. They were all sent on the day Zayn went missing. Zaidi said that he extracted the messages using a mobile data recovery software known as XRY. The defence team also comprises Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh. Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi are appearing for the prosecution. The trial before judge Syahliza Warnoh continues.

Search for Zayn Rayyan was not near the garden area, court told
PETALING JAYA: The mother of the late Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin admitted that she did not search the garden area near her apartment in Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai, when her son with autism went missing on Dec 5, 2023. Instead, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, said she searched around the complex and nearby premises. 'I searched every floor in Block R, then continued to Block S and Block A. 'All the apartment blocks have four levels. I searched alone at first while staying in contact with my husband (Zaim Ikhwan Zahari), who was then on his way home from work. 'He told me he was almost at Idaman Apartment and asked me to wait in front of Block E. 'When he arrived, we continued the search together,' she said during cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin on the third day of her defence trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday, Bernama reported. Ismanira said both of them also looked for their son at several places within a 500m radius from their home, including a petrol station, fast food outlets, her workplace, his school, Indah Apartment, Harmoni Apartment and Prima Damansara. She agreed with the prosecution's suggestion that all the locations she searched were further from the garden next to Block R. The first defence witness, however, disagreed with the prosecution's suggestion that she had encountered several people while searching the apartment blocks. 'Perhaps a few, but not many. It was during working hours, so the area was quiet except for the shop section. 'I only met people when I stopped at Block A where there were stalls. 'My husband and I left our contact numbers at each shop we visited,' she said. When questioned by defence lawyer Haresh Mahadevan about her decision to search areas 500m away instead of the nearby garden, Ismanira said: 'I know my son. He is on the autism spectrum and he only goes to places he is familiar with. 'I never brought him to the garden or to the location where his body was found. 'Unless something unusual had happened or someone took him there, he wouldn't have gone there on his own.' On Monday, Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case and ordered Ismanira to enter her defence. Her husband, Zaim Ikhwan, 30, was discharged and acquitted of the same charge. The couple had been accused of neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause him physical harm between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023, in the vicinity of Block R of Idaman Apartment and the nearby river. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.

Ismanira admits she didn't search area where son's body was found
Ismanira Abdul Manaf is charged with neglecting her son, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. PETALING JAYA : The mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin told the sessions court today she and her husband had searched every block and floor of Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai for their missing son. Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, admitted, however, that she did not check the garden area where the six-year-old autistic boy was later found dead in a stream. The garden is located just metres from Block R of the apartment block where the family resided. During cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Ismanira said she first searched for her son on all four floors of Blocks R, E, and S after Zayn went missing at about noon on Dec 5, 2023. She said her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 30, later joined in and searched all 19 blocks of the apartment complex. The couple also went to several nearby premises, including Zayn's school, a petrol station, a fast-food restaurant, and Ismanira's workplace. Raja Zaizul challenged Ismanira on why she failed to search the area closest to their home. Raja Zaizul: Would you agree that all these places are farther from Block R compared with the garden? Ismanira: Agree. Raja Zaizul: So do you agree that you searched places far from home but not the area right beside Block R? Ismanira: By area, you mean the garden? Raja Zaizul: Yes. Ismanira: Agree. Ismanira and Zaim were charged last year with neglecting Zayn in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. The offence allegedly occurred at PJU Damansara Damai between noon on Dec 5, 2023, when the boy was said to have gone missing, and 9.55pm the following day, when his body was discovered in a stream near his home at Apartment Idaman. Zaim has since been acquitted, while Ismanira was ordered to enter her defence. Lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented the accused. Raja Zaizul, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi appeared for the prosecution. The trial before judge Syahliza Warnoh continues.
