WWE champion's reign ends after 63-days on SmackDown before Night of Champions 2025
WWE Night of Champions is only a day away from emanating from the Kingdom Arena in the rich city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE built much hype for the Premium Live Event in the same venue by presenting the June 27th edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It featured three top title matches on the card. While two titles managed to stay with their respective titleholders, a major championship changed hands following a highly spectacular showdown that captivated the Riyadh audience. Which WWE Championship changed hands on SmackDown before Night of Champions 2025 Premium Live Event? On the June 27th edition of WWE SmackDown, Zelina Vega was scheduled to defend her WWE Women's United States Championship against Giulia. The international sensation had been having multiple encounters with Vega over the last few weeks since she was called up from WWE NXT. After Vega defeated Pipe Niven in a match with Giulia's help, she immediately turned on her and held the star-spangled prize high. This clearly hinted at her intentions, and the match was made official for SmackDown taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The duo clashed in an epic encounter that was a thrilling sight to witness. The Beautiful Madness unleashed her fury on the defending champion, who fought through it valiantly. From stunning drops to power-packed moves, Vega and Giulia stole the show. Towards the final moments of the title match, Giulia clearly had the upper hand, launching a pair of knee strikes. She put a conclusion to the bout by delivering a Northern Lights Bomb on Zelina Vega and pinned her shoulders to the mat for the three count. With that win, Giulia became the new WWE Women's United States Champion, marking her first singles title on the main roster. It was a sight of similar success being replicated by Giulia that she did when she arrived in NXT last year. While Zelina Vega did her best, her effort ultimately fell short at the hands of The Beautiful Madness. With Giulia winning her first major championship in WWE, it will be interesting to see her title reign on Friday Night SmackDown. Also read:

She was informed of the decision just before the show. In an exclusive interview with WrestleStar, Vega confirmed the title change was a last-minute decision. She was told about one or two hours before the show began. Zelina Vega On The Victory Vega explained that it was a very busy day for her personally. Her main focus was on the return of her husband, Malakai Black, which took place on the same night. "Probably about an hour or so, maybe two, before the show started," Vega said. "So it was pretty close." She said the reality of the win did not set in until right before broadcast. Her focus was split between her match and her husband's return. "I think that because I was so focused on my husband's return... it didn't actually come to, 'oh yeah, by the way, you're winning' until, like, maybe an hour or two before the show started," she stated. Before she was Zelina Vega, she competed in TNA from 2011 to 2013 under the name Rosita. She debuted as the storyline cousin of fellow wrestler Sarita, and the two immediately formed a successful heel tag team. Their biggest accomplishment came when they defeated Angelina Love and Winter to win the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship. Later in their run, she and Sarita joined the Mexican-American faction led by Hernandez. While she gained valuable experience, her TNA tenure primarily featured her in this tag team role, a starting point for the prominent managerial and singles career she would later forge in WWE. When asked about the rumors that she has heat with TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, Vega said that the two never had any beef. Advertisement 'So when it comes to me and Mercedes, we never had any beef,' Zelina Vega said. 'That's what's so funny. Back in the day, I had done an interview, which I remember talking to Naomi about this a long, long time ago. I was like, it'd be really cool to get, cause I had known her prior for a while. 'So it was like, to get into, like, a thing with her. Like, hopefully we can get into something and WWE. Like, my brain was, I need to get to WWE any way possible. She's one of the top girls. I want to get in the ring with her she's dope, I want to do this. She was cool with it. They're trying to find any little thing. Like, if I genuinely hated somebody, do you think I'd be cool with that?'
