Draft ward structure released for Nagpur ZP elections
Nagpur: With the Supreme Court clearing the way for long-pending local body elections, Nagpur district collector Dr Vipin Itankar released the draft structure for 57 Zilla Parishad wards, marking the next step in the election process. The draft, published on July 14, outlines revised constituency boundaries under the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961. Compared to the previous election, the total number of seats was reduced by one. The ward division is based on the last census data. Residents and stakeholders can submit written objections or suggestions to the collector until July 21. Proposals based on the objections may be sent to the divisional commissioner by July 28. The divisional commissioner is required to conduct hearings and announce a decision by August 11, while the final ward structure will be submitted to the Election Commission by August 18. Seat reservations will be be declared only after the ward structure is finalised. Once all objections are resolved and approvals secured, the election schedule will be announced — polls are likely to be held in October or November 2025. Rural political activity has picked up pace in anticipation of the elections.

This year, it was held in Feb. Students, teachers and parents are awaiting the final results and the merit list." On April 25, the council had declared interim results which said 23.9% students from Class V and 19.3% from Class VIII had passed. However, the final results are not yet out. Lakhs of students from the state appear for the classes X and XII board examinations and the results are declared on time. Another ZP teacher, Krishna Vadhu, said, "Why the examination council is taking so much time to declare the scholarship result is a mystery. If these examinations are conducted slightly earlier than the current schedule and results are declared in April-May, it could benefit school admissions." The teacher said the number of students appearing for scholarship exams has already decreased. Commissioner of the council Anuradha Oak confirmed the results would be announced in the next two to three days. "There were problems related to results from remote areas and we had to do some reverification. We are almost ready with the final marks and students will have the results soon."
