New party in town: Zurchers reopens old Party City store
SPRINGFIELD, MO – The city's vacant Party City store has a new tenant. And, while there's a new name on the building, shoppers will find goods similar to those of the former retailer. Utah-based Zurchers (pronounced zer-kers) has opened its first Missouri location at 2620 S. Campbell Ave. The space was occupied by Party City until that company declared bankruptcy and suddenly closed all its stores nationwide last December. The origional Party City lettering remains on the building while Zurchers awaits its new signage. In February, the Zurchers was the winning bidder for a handful of Party City sites in areas beyond its home region. In addition to the Springfield store, Zurchers acquired those in Omaha, Nebraska, Overland Park, Kansas (near Kansas City), and Mesquite, Texas (near Dallas). According to Zurcher's website, all of those former Party City sites have reopened under its banner. According to Ozarks First reporting, a court filing revealed Zurchers won the auction for Party City's Springfield location lease with a bid of over $70,000. Zurcher's expansion into the Ozarks comes at a time when the retailer is on the grow across the country. Until recently, all of the company's stores have been in Utah and Idaho. The retailer's website offers a glimpse into its 72-year history. 'Opened in 1953 by Clarence Zurcher, Zurchers has evolved into a family-owned and operated chain of party, costume, and wedding supply stores. Starting with a Boise, Idaho warehouse in 1983, the company, now run by Clarence's grandsons, has expanded throughout Utah and Idaho. ' The company explains that its stores offer 'an incredible selection of party supplies, helium-filled balloons, party decorations, Halloween costumes, accessories, and birthday supplies. Shoppers can enjoy convenient options like in-store pickup, local delivery, or home shipping, making it easier than ever to plan unforgettable celebrations. Discover Zurchers' vibrant party and wedding solutions at these new locations and elevate your next event with top-quality products and services!' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
