Pakistan hosts Bangladeshi academic delegation under OIC's scientific cooperation framework
ISLAMABAD: A seven-member delegation from Bangladeshi universities is currently visiting Pakistan to deepen academic and scientific cooperation between the two countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's coordinating body for scientific collaboration said on Thursday. Pakistan and Bangladesh, once a single country before the bloody 1971 war, have slowly begun rebuilding ties after last year's political upheaval in Dhaka, which saw the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, long viewed as critical of Islamabad and aligned with New Delhi. She fled to India by helicopter after her administration's downfall in August 2024, with Dhaka now seeking her extradition. The ties between India and Bangladesh's interim government have become frosty, creating space for Islamabad and Dhaka to re-engage after decades of limited contact. 'The forum brought together a seven-member Bangladeshi delegation comprising vice chancellors and senior representatives from leading universities, and vice chancellors from 15 top Pakistani universities, which are part of COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence,' the OIC-COMSTECH said in a statement, adding that academics from Bangladesh are visiting Pakistan from June 16-21. The visiting delegation termed their ongoing visit as 'historical, highly productive and promising' for academic collaboration between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Vice chancellors from Pakistani and Bangladeshi universities held discussions aimed at deepening academic and scientific cooperation, it added. The meetings focused on expanding collaboration in key areas including student and faculty exchange programs, scholarship opportunities, joint research initiatives apart from sharing academic expertise. The participants of the meeting also agreed that each university would appoint a focal person to ensure effective follow-up on commitments made during the visit. Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Iqbal Hussain Khan, the chief guest at the event, praised COMSTECH for offering scholarships, organizing the visit and facilitating meaningful academic exchanges between higher education institutions of the two countries. In May, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar agreed to strengthen bilateral relationship with Bangladesh and maintain high-level contacts with its leadership. Pakistan's government launched a new program in December 2024 through which it will provide fully funded scholarships to 300 Bangladeshi students. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Bangladesh Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus in New York last year at a ceremony hosted by the Bangladeshi leader to mark the completion of 50 years of Bangladesh's membership in the United Nations. Both sides had agreed to forge stronger ties and enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields during their meeting.

EU-funded 3E Partnership Project coordinated by Business and Technology University Hits the First Milestone
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. You're reading Entrepreneur Georgia, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. The EU-funded and supported 3E‑Partnership Project has reached a significant milestone in its mission to modernize higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine. The project was launched in December 2023 under the Erasmus+ CBHE program. Its mission is built on two strategic pillars – facilitating knowledge generation and building mutually reinforcing partnerships. These foundations have already catalyzed academic changes among participant institutions and have strengthened regional collaboration in the field of energy efficiency. To strengthen cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration, a series of impactful knowledge-sharing events and study visits have been organized as part of the project. Study visits to European universities and energy labs offered firsthand exposure to best practices in energy efficiency education and practices. The visits brought together academic communities and practitioners from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine to engage with leading European institutions and to explore how similar initiatives might be adapted in their home institutions. These visits offered participants direct access to energy efficiency labs, the most updated infrastructure, experts and knowledge. Special attention was given to the design and implementation of energy efficiency education and research programs, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of how academic content can align with industry needs. One of the highlights was the September 2024 visit to KU Leuven Ghent Campus, which focused on engineering education reform, particularly the integration of energy-efficient technologies and sustainability across academic curricula. The sessions underlined the value of industry-academia collaboration and enabled participants to engage with researchers, faculty and industry professionals. As a representative of POLIMI team observed: ,,The value of the cooperation in the project is quite high since a new working network has been created." One of tangible outcomes of the first project phase is the co-creation of modern and innovative curricula. The curriculum development process within the 3E-Partnership Project has been designed as a collaborative effort between European and non-European partner institutions, ensuring the integration of best practices in energy efficiency education. Guided by the SCALE methodology—Study Visits, Course Material sharing, Adaptation, Localized efforts and Energy focus—partners collaborated in three stages: Study Visit Insights provided exposure to effective teaching and interdisciplinary approaches. Material and Resource Sharing from EU partners supplied high-quality teaching content. Course Prioritization and Adaptation by non-EU partners tailored curriculum to local academic, regulatory, and infrastructural realities This process, supported by regular virtual meetings, workshops and consortium feedback loops, led to the preparation of BA and MA Courses. As the participants from Georgia's Technical University shared: ,,It was Extremely beneficial for the partner universities to learn best European experience but also share their experience as well. Thanks to this productive cooperation… detailed curricula were developed." Looking Ahead: A Shared Path to Climate Action As the project's first phase wraps up, the team prepares for the next significant steps, which means - enacting all the gained knowledge and putting the designed curriculum into practice. This successful milestone signals more than just academic advancement: it marks a shared commitment to climate resilience, higher education modernization and a future with enhanced regional cooperation. Stay tuned as the 3E‑Partnership enters its next chapter toward transforming regional academic cooperation and promoting dialogue for more resilient and sustainable energy efficiency practices. OIC's COMSTECH eyes enhanced academic collaboration between Pakistan, Bangladesh
ISLAMABAD: The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) is organizing an upcoming visit by a high-level delegation of Bangladeshi universities to Pakistan next week, the global body said this week, as it aims to enhance academic collaboration between the two countries. The 10-member delegation will comprise vice-chancellors and senior officials from leading public and private sector universities of Bangladesh, COMSTECH said in a statement on Friday. The delegation is set to visit Pakistan from June 16 to 21. The visit is being organized at COMSTECH's invitation and is being facilitated by the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, it said. 'The primary objective of the visit is to explore and enhance avenues of academic collaboration and institutional partnerships in the fields of higher education, science, and technology,' COMSTECH said in a press release. 'The delegation will participate in a series of high-level meetings, discussions, and interactive sessions with top Pakistani universities in Lahore and Islamabad.' It said that these Pakistani institutions are members of COMSTECH's Consortium of Excellence (CCoE), a collaborative network of premier universities dedicated to advancing scientific cooperation and educational excellence among OIC member states. 'This initiative reflects COMSTECH's continued commitment to fostering inter-university cooperation and strengthening academic ties across the Muslim world, particularly between Bangladesh and Pakistan,' the statement concluded. Ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh have improved recently. Once one nation, Bangladesh split from Pakistan after a brutal 1971 war with Dhaka drawing closer to Islamabad's arch-rival New Delhi over the years. However, long-time Bangladeshi prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in August 2024 after her government was overthrown by a student-led protest. She fled via helicopter to India, with Dhaka attempting to extradite her. Relations between India and Bangladesh's interim government have been frosty since then, allowing Islamabad and Dhaka to rebuild ties slowly.
