Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio Producing Ted Griffin's Action Thriller CARTHAGE MUST BE DESTROYED — GeekTyrant

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are jumping on board a new film project as producers. It's titled Carthage Must Be Destroyed , a new action thriller helmed by Ocean's Eleven writer Ted Griffin. Griffin, known for sharp scripts and layered storytelling, is directing from his own screenplay. The story centers on 'a stranger happens upon a rust-belt city in decline, ruled by its criminal underworld. Using brain and brawn, he sows distrust and creates chaos, in order to dismantle the corrupt power structure.' Chad A. Verdi of Verdi Productions, who's helping to lead the charge on this project, described it as 'a dynamic project' and added: 'It's a pleasure to be collaborating with Marty, Leo, Jen, Gareth and Chris, and our extraordinary producing team will elevate this project to new heights.' Production is currently slated to begin this October in Rhode Island, with casting now underway. Financing is being handled by Verdi Productions and Ketchup Entertainment, with Sikelia Productions (Scorsese), Appian Way (DiCaprio), and LBI Entertainment also backing the project. Executive producers include Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lisa Frechette, Sera Verdi, and Jennifer Davisson. On the production side, you'll also find Verdi, Gareth West, Christopher Donnelly, Michelle Verdi, Chad Verdi Jr., and Paul Luba—making this a seriously packed team behind the scenes. I'm up for a hard-edged action project from the guy who wrote Ocean's Eleven . I'm curious to see how this movie played out. Source: Deadline

Dave Nemetz Reviews Countdown: Amazon's High-Octane Action Thriller Is Peak Dad TV, For Better or Worse

It's a shame Prime Video's new action thriller Countdown didn't premiere earlier this month, because it would've made a perfect Father's Day gift. Strong-jawed and action-packed, Countdown (debuting this Wednesday; I've seen the first three episodes) is a throwback to testosterone-heavy '80s TV dramas like The A-Team and Miami Vice, with lots of explosions, gunfights and car chases. In other words, it's pure Dad TV, so it should fit in nicely alongside Reacher, Bosch and The Terminal List in the Prime Video library. The story is nothing groundbreaking, and we can see the screenwriting seams at times — but the action hits so hard that it hardly matters. More from TVLine Here's How Prime Video Puts You in Charge of All Your Streaming Subscriptions Countdown EP Derek Haas Welcomes '24 Meets Graceland' Comparison, Teases One Surprise He Has Planned We Were Liars Author Explains What That Chilling Finale Ending Means for Potential Season 2 Supernatural veteran Jensen Ackles stars as Mark Meachum, an undercover LAPD detective who is recruited to join a top-secret task force after a federal agent is murdered in shocking fashion. (That murder, and the actors involved, let us know right away that this show means business.) Eric Dane plays the stone-faced head of the task force who assembles a dream team of agents to solve the murder… but the trail of clues soon leads them to a much larger danger that threatens pretty much everyone in Los Angeles. Hailing from #OneChicago showrunner Derek Haas, Countdown feels like a CBS crime drama with a supercharged production budget, unafraid to drop big bucks on eye-popping stunts and large-scale action sequences. With film production fleeing Hollywood in droves these days, it's also a nice reminder of the benefits of shooting in Los Angeles, with sun-soaked chase scenes through palm tree-lined streets. Therock soundtrack is like another character on the show, too, with the action scenes scored to screeching guitar riffs and pounding drums that match the show's propulsive energy. (Dads everywhere will be happily head-banging along and playing air guitar.) When the action stops, though, Countdown loses nearly all of its momentum. (It's almost a signal for Dad to go grab another beer.) The threat of citywide annihilation is certainly a compelling starting point for a thriller, but the investigation scenes and flashbacks are a little snoozy. Ackles' character throws out a few wise-ass remarks, but the witty banter is not really all that witty. The team's path is implausibly easy, too, as they elicit convenient confessions and stumble upon a terrorist's master plans. Plus, the scripts try to yank on our heartstrings with some maudlin moments that don't quite land, including a grim twist for one main character that feels tacked on just to add some emotional stakes. With his gravelly voice and unflappable demeanor, Ackles makes a more than capable action hero. As DEA agent Amber Oliveras, The Flash alum Jessica Camacho is impressively badass, shining above and beyond what's on the page. Dane, meanwhile, is so deadly serious here as team leader Nathan Blythe, it's like he's contractually forbidden from cracking a smile. He looks the part of the no-nonsense boss, though, and Countdown looks the part of a satisfying, if forgettable, action thriller. It doesn't always hit on all cylinders, but it delivers the fireworks we're looking for from a show like this. It's like a battering ram slamming through a screen door: not very subtle, but undeniably effective. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE: Prime Video's is a testosterone-heavy thriller that delivers big action, even when the story doesn't hold up. Your dad will love it.

Thailand's M Studio Unveils Action-Heavy Slate at Shanghai Market (EXCLUSIVE)

M Studio Thailand is betting big on action as it unveils a varied slate at the ongoing Shanghai International Film & TV Market, led by Puttipong Nakthong's thriller 'The Last Shot.' The action-thriller, set for release Nov. 27, follows Petch, an assassin desperate to escape his violent past but forced into one final job where 'his future and freedom rest on the final bullet.' The film represents the kind of high-concept genre fare that has made M Studio one of Thailand's most prolific production houses. More from Variety Shanghai Launches Merged Film and TV Market With Industry-Public Hybrid Model The Bangkok-based company is riding high following the massive success of 2023's 'Death Whisperer' (aka 'Tee Yod'), which shattered Thai box office records with earnings exceeding $14 million domestically alone. The horror hit exemplifies M Studio's knack for connecting with local audiences while maintaining commercial appeal. At Shanghai, M Studio is showcasing a diverse lineup that spans multiple genres. Racing comedy 'Jazz the Racing,' directed by Poj Arnon and Phadung Samajarn, follows rising motorsport star Jazz as he navigates guilt and redemption after a rival's death forces him into monkhood. The film explores whether former racing champions can convince Jazz to return to competition. The slate also includes 'Nakee 3,' the latest installment in the popular action-drama franchise that intertwines love, destiny and mystical serpent god mythology in what the company describes as a 'breathtaking new adventure.' Comedy-action hybrid 'Riam Fighting Angel 2' brings back the daring Riam Racing Gang for another high-stakes village rescue mission, while biographical drama 'Bit by Bit' tells the story of top student Top Jirayut, an Oxford graduate facing family and societal pressures who must discover 'the true cost of success.' Rounding out the lineup are action-thriller 'God Skin,' about a writer lured into underground boxing with life-shortening nano-tattoo enhancements, and drama-comedy 'The Lion Dance Girl,' following a young designer who returns to her rural hometown to lead a traditional lion dance troupe after her father's death. M Studio's prolific output of 10-15 films annually has established the company as a major force in Thai cinema, consistently delivering box office hits across multiple genres. The company's ability to blend local storytelling with commercial sensibilities has proven particularly effective in the competitive Southeast Asian market. Trailer For Jamie Foxx and Robert De Niro's Action Thriller TIN SOLDIER — GeekTyrant

Here's a trailer for a upcoming action thriller titled Tin Soldier , which stars Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, Scott Eastwood, and John Leguizamo. With a great cast like that, you might expect a good movie, but this looks super generic! I'm not sure how they pulled that casting off! The synopsis for the film reads: 'Jamie Foxx will put you under his spell in this cult compound extraction thriller. The Bokushi preaches to hundreds of war veterans, drawn to the promise of protection and purpose under him. 'Surrounded by his devout military-trained followers, he has built an impenetrable fortress & amassed an arsenal. After several failed infiltration attempts, the government – in the form of operative Emmanuel Ashburn – recruits Nash Cavanaugh, an ex-special forces asset, who was once a disciple of The Bokushi. 'Nash agrees to use his vulnerable past & insider knowledge of the enigmatic leader to finally get revenge on the man who took everything from him, including the love of his life.' Tin Soldier is directed by Brad Furman (The Take, The Lincoln Lawyer, Runner Runner) and it's set to be released direct-to-streaming in the UK on July 23rd, 2025.
