Why book? On the coast of the buzzy seaside village of La Parguera, Parguera Plaza Hotel is a stylish and sun-drenched adults-only resort. All about access and fun, it's a walk to the pier that leads to a boat ride to one of Puerto Rico's three glowing bioluminescent bays—to which, this site is the only one visitors can swim in. Jessica Chapel Set the scene Near the lively main square of art and food vendors with lots of live music and open-air restaurants, the hotel acts as a hub of celebration, in-and-of-itself. Nearly Ibiza-inspired, the white-splashed and lush property is visited by those in the area for boat parties, locals, and in-the-know travelers, looking for a fun-yet-refreshing retreat. Parguera Plaza Hotel reopened in 2025 after a full renovation to its suites and pool area, where local musicians play late into the night beneath strings of lights and swaying palms. Between the music, the mezcal, and the moonlit water glowing just down the block, the hotel is proof that the island's western paradise is getting a little louder—and a whole lot more fun. Jessica Chapel The backstory After managing the property under lease for five years, entrepreneurial couple Juan C. Irizarry and Sylmaie Gonzalez Orengo officially acquired the property in 2020. What followed was a bold redesign—led by architect Victor Colón—that gave the hotel a fresh identity: adults-only, boutique-minded, and rooted in the energy of La Parguera. By early 2025, after two major phases of renovation, 26 stylish rooms, four restaurants, a rooftop, nightclub, coffee shop, and 24-hour pool came together as one vibrant destination. The rooms The 26 rooms range from queen and king deluxe to garden and ocean-view suites, all designed for couples and curated for comfort. Interiors are airy and contemporary, but grounded in place. Every bedframe, closet, and desk is custom-made by local artisans from Ebanistería Martínez in Yauco, using sustainable materials. Details feel thoughtful, not flashy: refillable bath products by local brand 3 Hojas, gardens outside every window, and lighting that shifts with the day. Whether you're waking up to sunlight streaming through palm leaves or cooling down with air conditioning, the vibe stays breezy and intimate. Food & beverage Start your day at Kelly's Coffee Shop, open 24/7, with a café con leche and a pastelito. For something heartier, Brújula serves a laid-back brunch that transforms into a refined seafood dinner by night, featuring a rotating catch of the day. Isla Cueva Burger Bar hits the sweet spot for casual eats and craft beers, while Reserva 304 on the rooftop blends sushi, artisanal pizza, and creative cocktails in a scene that feels straight out of Condado—minus the crowds. For a slower, quieter moment, duck into Cava de Don Juan, the wine cellar lounge, where you'll find crisp whites and moody lighting in equal measure. The neighborhood/area Right outside the hotel is La Parguera's main square, buzzing with souvenir shops, street vendors, and local bars that stay lively well into the night. A short stroll brings you to the bay docks, where boats launch toward the offshore keys or the glowing waters of the bioluminescent bay, one of only three on the island. It's equal parts fishing village and beach party, where magic encounters of snorkeling, kayaking, and mojitos naturally coexist. The service Parguera Plaza's service is casual but deeply attentive. Whether it's booking your airport transfer, setting up a private dinner, or organizing a boat tour, the staff doesn't miss a beat. The vibe is: 'we've got you,' without the pretense. (Communication happens fast, often via WhatsApp, and always with a smile.) Eco effort The hotel has eliminated single-use toiletries, relying instead on beautiful, refillable, organic bath products made on-island. Nearly all communications are paperless, and all takeout packaging is LED lighting, water-saving restrooms, and eco-mode A/C units are just part of it. What stands out is how local everything feels: from farm-to-table menus to custom woodwork, it's clear that this hotel supports its community as much as it supports its guests. Accessibility While not fully ADA-equipped across the board, the hotel does offer ground-floor rooms and staff support for guests with mobility concerns. Airport transportation can be arranged from any point on the island, making the journey smooth from start to finish. Anything left to mention? There's no formal spa, but between the lush gardens, 24-hour pool access, and breezy balconies, it's easy to find your own rhythm of rest. The environment invites wellness by design—organic textures, natural light, and salt in the air make sure of that.
