Man stabbed in the neck by stranger at British hotspot airport 'for no apparent reason' in front of horrified passengers

Tourists were left terrified after they witnessed a man stab a stranger in the neck for no apparent reason at a busy Spanish airport. Passengers at Palma airport in Mallorca watched on in horror as the frightening incident took place yesterday. This attack is being described as a brutal assault without a motive. Police said a man, with a companion, had gone to Son Sant Joan airport to pick up a friend who was flying into the island. As he was waiting in the terminal, a man ran up to him and started to ask him something about his phone but he could not understand what he was saying. Suddenly, without any warning, he pulled out a knife and stabbed his victim in the neck. The alleged perpetrator of the attack was arrested shortly after whilst still inside the airport. The injured man, aged about 20, was treated at the scene by an ambulance from SAMU 061. He was stabilised by medics and later transferred to a hospital to receive specialised medical attention. At the moment, no further details have been provided about his state of health. His life is not thought to be in danger. The incident caused shock and some panic among other people in the terminal building. Currently, no apparent reason for the attack has been revealed. Police have opened an investigation and the man is due to appear before a court today. The nationalities of either the attacker or his victim have not yet been released. It is understood they were not known to one another. Local people have expressed their concern about the stabbing too and what they see as increasing crime in Mallorca. One person posted: 'The place is becoming a joke. Broad day light at Palma airport. If this isn't a wake up call, I don't know what will be.' It comes just a few days after a teenage knifeman was shot dead by Spanish police after threatening holidaymakers. The 18-year-old Gambian was shot five times after lunging at one of the officers who confronted him. Tourists were seen running for cover as shots ran out during the Saturday afternoon incident at Gran Canaria airport.
