Kuwait: Draft law proposes unit to track undeclared earnings
KUWAIT CITY - Attorney Aseel Al-Saif said she submitted a draft law on the establishment of a new police department called the 'Community Investigations Department for the Undeclared Economy' to the office of Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sharida Al-Maousherji. Al-Saif stated that the department will specialize in uncovering and tracking unverified sources of income in the traditional financial system, particularly in personal status cases related to alimony and custody. She disclosed that the aim is to develop State tools to keep pace with modern economic transformations and promote financial justice in light of the increasing incidence of financial fraud, as some heads of households conceal their actual income to reduce their obligations to their wives and children after separation. She pointed out that 'courts today are confronted with a new reality of undocumented income, such as profits from social media accounts, online sales through unlicensed platforms, income from properties rented without contracts, profits from digital currencies, and cash transfers. This makes proof of income through a bank statement insufficient to fairly estimate alimony.' She revealed this legal move is based on Article 123 of the Personal Status Law, which stipulates that 'alimony is estimated according to the financial status of the supporter -- whether wealthy or poor, while taking into account the status of the beneficiary.' She stated this requires knowledge of actual income, not apparent income. She added, 'Justice is not served if we rely solely on traditional paperwork that conceals undeclared income. Women and children are the first victims of this imbalance. Therefore, we must take legislative action in line with the new economic reality.' The following are the main stipulations of the draft law: - Collection and analysis of information on the parallel economy, such as e-commerce and digital currencies; - Reports of the department are considered valid technical evidence for submission to courts in alimony cases. - The department has the authority to contact banking and financial institutions with a judicial warrant; - Promote social justice and guarantee the rights of divorced women and their children. India top pacer Shami asked to pay Rs400,000 in monthly alimony
Mohammed Shami, a top pacer, has been ordered to pay alimony of Rs 400,000 every month to his estranged wife in a ruling on Tuesday, June 1. The order directs him to pay Rs 150,000 per month for his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan's personal maintenance and Rs 250,000 towards the care and expenses of their daughter. Earlier, the cricketer had been directed to pay her Rs 50,000 per month and an additional Rs 80,000 for their daughter's expenses. Which Jahan then appealed, in which her legal counsel argued that Shami's financial circumstances could support a higher alimony amount. According to his income tax return for the financial year 2021, Shami's annual income was approximately Rs 6 million per month. Jahan claimed her combined monthly expenses, including those for her daughter, exceeded Rs 600,000. The High Court ruled in her favour after taking these details into account. In 2014, former model and Kolkata Knight Riders cheerleader Hasin Jahan tied the knot with Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami. The following year, they welcomed a daughter. However, by 2018, their marriage had taken a turbulent turn. Jahan publicly leveled serious accusations against Shami, including domestic abuse, dowry-related harassment, and even involvement in match-fixing. She further claimed that Shami had ceased to support her financially, deepening the rift between them. India

Ryan Lochte's 'betrayed' wife Kayla reveals his six-figure income as bitter divorce feud continues
Ryan Lochte 's six-figure income has been revealed by his 'betrayed' wife Kayla Reid as she requests child support and alimony for the couple's three kids amid their bitter divorce dispute. Reid announced earlier this month that she had filed for divorce from the six-time gold medalist in March, after seven years of marriage. At the time, the former Playboy playmate branded the divorce 'painful' and referenced 'trials we didn't choose or see coming', while Lochte said he was 'deeply grateful for the life we've built together'. Neither revealed exactly what led to their marriage becoming 'irretrievably broken'. Now, their splitting of assets has seen Reid submit court documents stating Lochte's annual income of 2024 as $350,437, per Us. Reid has a reported net worth of $102,940.06, with her work as a relator and social-media influencer earning her $196,160 before taxes last year. After federal and state taxes have been taken out, Reid is left with $11,997 in monthly income, not covering her monthly expenses of $17,091.92, a deficit of over $60,000 a year. Reid also stated in court documents that 'there is no guarantee' she will continue at that level of income. An additional wage of $1,500 per month help with social media pages for her employer was paid out last year, but has not continued in 2025. Reid also revealed more than $5,000 in debt to multiple places - Discover Card, American Airlines, and clothing store T.J. Maxx. A court has yet to rule on the matter between Lochte, 40, and Reid, as their divorce continues to play out over a months-long saga. As revealed by the Daily Mail, however, the couple owe nearly $270,000 in various debts, while they are also fighting over the custody of their three children - Caiden Zane, seven, Liv Rae, five, and Georgia June, one. Earlier this week, Reid, 34, took to social media to post cryptic comments about the divorce, including that she is 'stepping into the best chapter of her life'. The former Playboy playmate posted a series of pictures and videos alongside 'reminders' of what she is 'telling herself right now'. 'Sometimes God allows the betrayal... because it leads to the breakthrough,' one read. Kayla's petition for divorce, filed in Florida, asked the court for 'sole parenting responsibility' 'Divorce isn't the end of my story. It's the beginning of my rebirth... I didn't choose to be broken, but I'm choosing to rebuild.' She added: 'You're stepping into the best chapter of your life - you just have to heal first... most people have no idea what I've endured. Ignore their opinions. Truth always reveals itself.' Kayla's petition for divorce, filed in north central Florida's Alachua County, asked the court for 'sole parenting responsibility' or at least 'ultimate decision-making authority' and 'majority timesharing,' Daily Mail previously reported. 'Wife is fit and proper to assume sole parental responsibility for the minor children of he parties. Shared parental responsibility would be detrimental to the children,' her lawyers wrote. However, Lochte responded by insisting it was in the best interests of Caiden, Liv and Georgia for their parents to share custody. But his April 28 counter-petition, prepared by attorney Justin Jacobson, also included multiple errors when it came to details of their birthdays and places of birth. Lochte said all three were born in May but – as Kayla pointed out in a subsequent filing – Caiden was born June 8, 2017, Liv was born June 17, 2019, and Georgia was born June 21, 2023. The gold medalist swimmer and former Playboy Playmate tied the knot in Palm Springs, California, in January 2018, after previously going public with their relationship in 2016.

When you file your taxes, one of the biggest decisions is whether you should claim the standard deduction or go through the chore of itemizing your deductions. With the standard deduction of $15,000 for individuals and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, itemizing requires a significant sum of deductions to make it worth it. But did you know there are 'above-the-line' deductions that you can claim even if you claim the standard deduction? Many of these deductions are claimed on Schedule 1 of your Form 1040, which can be a guide to finding these above-the-line deductions. Here are a few of the more uncommon ones: If you had to withdraw money early from a certificate of deposit (CD), you likely paid a penalty depending on the terms of the CD. Fortunately, this is deductible on Line 18 - Penalty on early withdrawal of savings. If you paid student loan interest, you could get a tax break on up to $2,500 of payments as long as you qualify. There are income restrictions. You do not qualify if you have income over $80,000 for single filers and $165,000 for those married filing jointly. This can be found one Line 21 - Student loan interest deduction. If you were divorced before the start of 2019, your alimony payments are deductible from your income on Schedule 1 of your Form 1040, Line 19a - Alimony paid. If your agreement was established amended in or after 2019, unfortunately it will no longer be deductible. If you are a teacher, you can deduct up to $300 in unreimbursed expenses spent in your classroom. You must have worked at least 900 hours at a qualifying elementary or secondary school. This can be found on Line 11 - Educator expenses. If you are an active-duty service member and had qualifying moving expenses that were not reimbursed, you can claim them on Line 14 - Moving expenses for members of the Armed Forces. It covers household items, housing, storage and travel but does not include meals.
