Lutovinov appointed Ukrainian ambassador to Japan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Yuriy Lutovinov, former minister-counselor at the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan, as ambassador to Japan. The appointment was announced on Monday. Of the Group of Seven major powers, which have led assistance to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion of the East European country, Japan had been the only country with a vacant Ukrainian ambassador post. Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky left his post this spring. Lutovinov, fluent in Japanese, may take up his new post as early as September. Korsunsky became Ukrainian ambassador to Japan in 2020. He worked to secure Japan's backing in Kyiv's fight with Moscow, and focused on spreading information through X, formerly Twitter. Zelenskyy is believed to expect Lutovinov to play a similar role. Ukraine on Thursday carried out its first drastic change in government personnel since the Russian invasion began three and a half years ago, launching the cabinet of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Zelenskyy met reappointed Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Monday to revamp Kyiv's diplomatic missions. According to local media, Lutovinov and 15 others have been newly appointed as ambassadors, including one named ambassador to Canada. The Ukrainian president has indicated he may appoint former Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna as ambassador to the United States to bolster ties with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

‘Let's not embarrass ourselves': Tok Mat says can't reject Nick Adams since no request yet for him to be US ambassador here

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — Malaysia cannot yet make any decision on the possible appointment of Australian-American commentator Nick Adams as the next United States ambassador, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said today. He said doing so would be premature and potentially embarrassing for Malaysia, as the Wisma Putra has yet to receive any formal request from Washington 'As for Nick Adams, we've yet to receive any request or agreement from the US. Let's wait and see how the request comes,' he said during the question and answer session in Dewan Rakyat. 'Of course, Wisma Putra, the Foreign Ministry will provide its views and considerations, which will then be brought to Cabinet for a decision.' Mohamad added that there was currently no basis for any action, as Malaysia was merely responding to hearsay at this stage. 'That's my only answer for now, because we haven't received anything, it's all just talk. If we reject it now, they might say, 'But we never even asked?' That would be embarrassing for us,' he said. 'Let's not embarrass ourselves unnecessarily,' he added. Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would follow established diplomatic protocols when the time comes for the US to nominate its next ambassador to Kuala Lumpur. On July 11, US President Donald Trump announced on social media that he will nominate Adams to the role, after praising the latter as 'an incredible Patriot and very successful entrepreneur' whose devotion to America serves as an inspiration. Under diplomatic protocol, no country may send an ambassador without the host nation's prior consent, which is a key principle in international relations.

The battalion supports the regular Army in its operations, including deploying soldiers said that during his time playing rugby that seeing the men and women in uniform holding Wales' national flag "was always a significant and poignant symbol of the history and connection to the military in Wales"."My apprehension was borne out of the responsibility felt while wearing the red jersey and all that comes with representing our nation," he said that learning about the history of the The Royal Welsh meant it was "something I couldn't turn down"."The fact that personnel serving with 3rd Battalion also have day jobs also sparked an awareness that reservists are all around us in civilian life," he added. Brig Wardle, for former head of the Army in Wales and outgoing honorary colonel, said there is "no set job description" in the role but its main task "is to support the battalion in any way possible"."The main role though is to see what reservists do, to listen to their stories and to encourage them and to be a positive role model."Alun Wyn has a history of service to his country, and he has widely-recognised leadership qualities - I can't think of a more fitting person to enthuse, motivate and inspire the battalion than him," he said.

Too early to decide on Nick Adams's nomination as US envoy, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will give the nomination of Nick Adams due consideration and, at the same time, maintain good ties with Washington. PUTRAJAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says it is premature for the government to decide on whether to approve conservative political commentator Nick Adams as the next US ambassador to Malaysia. Anwar said Putrajaya is following the proper protocol in considering foreign ambassadorial appointments. 'It is still too early (to decide),' he told reporters after Friday prayers here. 'Of course, the government will give it due consideration. At the same time, we will maintain good relations between Malaysia and the US.' US president Donald Trump has nominated Adams as Washington's new ambassador to Malaysia. His nomination will need to be confirmed by the US senate before he can assume the role. While no date has been set for the senate vote, Adams is expected to be approved as the Republican-held senate has backed every Trump nominee since he became president in January. Adams's nomination has faced opposition from former law minister Zaid Ibrahim and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who said Malaysia has every right under the Vienna Convention to reject the appointment without providing a reason. Zaid described Adams as a 'right-wing agitator and partisan provocateur' who is unfit to serve as a US ambassador because of his lack of diplomatic credentials. Adams previously criticised alleged efforts to 'teach Islam in schools'. Known to be a staunch supporter of Israel, he has said that those who expressed solidarity with Palestinians supported terrorism. Selangor PAS Youth chief Sukri Omar said accepting Adams's nomination will be seen as an insult to the country's Muslim community and Malaysians who support Palestine. PKR Youth today submitted a memorandum of protest to the US embassy over the nomination.
