Bahrain's Derasat Joins Global Experts at Cambridge Gulf Research Meeting
Abdulla Mohamed Alahmed, Executive Director of Bahrain's Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), took part in the 15th edition of the Gulf Research Meeting hosted at the University of Cambridge in the UK. The annual gathering, organized by the Gulf Research Center, brought together global decision-makers, academics, and policy experts to discuss key issues shaping the Gulf region and its ties with the wider world. During his remarks, Alahmed emphasized the need to move beyond traditional partnerships and foster deeper engagement between Gulf countries and European societies. He highlighted the growing importance of trade diplomacy in today's international landscape, alongside military and security cooperation. Alahmed also underscored the need for a more integrated regional approach to Gulf security, especially in light of rising maritime threats in the Red Sea. He called for greater efforts in capacity building, conflict mediation, and early warning systems. He further proposed setting up structured dialogues that connect security with sustainable development, helping the region navigate today's fast-changing geopolitical realities. The meeting opened with keynote speeches from prominent figures including Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud; GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi; Chairman of the Gulf Research Center Dr. Abdulaziz bin Sager; and EU Special Representative for the Gulf Region Luigi Di Maio. The speakers all stressed the need to deepen political, economic, and security cooperation between the Gulf and Europe. This year's meeting featured 12 expert-led workshops, with Derasat researchers actively contributing to several of the discussions. Derasat's participation highlights Bahrain's commitment to contributing to global policy debates and reflects its growing role as a regional think tank working toward a more secure and interconnected Gulf future. The Gulf Research Meeting has been held annually since 2010 and serves as a leading platform for dialogue on the Gulf region's most pressing challenges and opportunities.

Derasat Executive Director Meets EU Envoy to Discuss Stronger Gulf-Europe Collaboration
The Executive Director of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), Mr. Abdulla Mohamed Alahmed, recently met with H.E. Mr. Luigi Di Maio, the European Union's Special Representative for the Gulf Region, during the Gulf Research Center Meeting held at the University of Cambridge. Their meeting focused on boosting cooperation between the Gulf and the European Union, particularly through closer partnerships between regional think tanks. Both sides agreed on the value of strengthening dialogue and collaboration to better support policymakers and respond to rapidly evolving global and regional issues. Mr. Alahmed emphasized the importance of linking security with development and using strategic foresight tools to build a more resilient partnership. He highlighted how these efforts can create new opportunities for joint action and shared understanding. Mr. Di Maio praised the role of Derasat in offering thoughtful analysis and research, noting its contribution to regional peace and stability. Bahrain and China review partnership outcomes across key sectors
Muneera Nofal Al Doseri, Chief of the Asia and Pacific Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in a discussion session organised by the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) to mark the first anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the People's Republic of China. Dr. Mohammed Ghassan Shaikho, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the People's Republic of China, and Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, were present. Al Doseri addressed the notable progress in ties between the two countries, highlighted by the historic visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the People's Republic of China in May 2024. The visit culminated in a joint statement announcing the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. She commended the cooperation between Bahrain and China, as reflected in the projects launched under agreements signed during the royal visit. These agreements span various domains, including space, health, e-commerce, industrial development, tourism, and the digital economy. She also emphasised the Kingdom's commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship with the People's Republic of China. BNA(R)

Bahrain and China Deepen Partnership
TDT | Manama Bahrain and China marked one year of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership yesterday with a high-level seminar focused on expanding diplomatic, trade, and technological cooperation. The event, hosted by the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), brought together officials, researchers, and think tank leaders from both countries to explore new pathways for deepening bilateral ties. Ties in motion The seminar, held at Derasat's headquarters, was attended by His Excellency Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bahrain, and featured virtual remarks from H.E. Dr Mohammed Ghassan Shaikho, Bahrain's Ambassador to China. H.E. Ni highlighted the historic strength of Bahrain-China relations and praised the growing collaboration across sectors including infrastructure, education, and culture. He also lauded Derasat's role in advancing joint research and fostering meaningful knowledge exchange. H.E. Dr Shaikho, speaking via video call from Beijing, reflected on the progress made over the past year and affirmed the importance of continuing to align strategic priorities under the bilateral partnership framework. Panels on progress The seminar featured four sessions, each addressing key components of the relationship. The first panel focused on political and economic relations, while the second discussed Bahrain's engagement in multilateral frameworks. A third panel explored the role of modern technologies in strengthening cooperation. The final session, dedicated to trade relations, gathered representatives from Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Nasser Centre for Science and Technology, and Chinese research institutions to identify new areas for investment and commercial growth. Vision aligned Derasat's initiative reflects Bahrain's broader aim to build high-quality global partnerships that support sustainable development and innovation. The seminar echoed key pillars of Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom's role as a strategic node between the Gulf and East Asia.
