Kundannoor-Angamaly bypass: Action council seeks fair compensation for land acquisition in Maradu
Kochi: An action council has been formed in Maradu, demanding fair compensation for land and buildings during land acquisition for Kundannoor-Angamaly bypass. A key demand of the council is to provide compensation based on LARR (Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act 2013) for the land to be taken over by state govt.
The 44.7-km-long greenfield bypass, approved by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Jan 2023, is a six-lane highway that will start from Karayamparambu on northern side of Angamaly and end at Kundannoor Junction on NH 66. The bypass passes through divisions 20, 21, 22, 23 and 26 of the local body. The action council has been formed by combining several groups in the region, locals and officials of Maradu municipality.
Patrons of the council include municipality chairperson Antony Ashanparambil, vice-chairperson Reshmi Sanil, development standing committee chairman Riyas K Muhammed, along with 13 other individuals from the region.
Lands recorded as 'nilam' (paddy fields) in basic tax records (BTR) but currently used as residential land must be treated as residential property when determining compensation, according to the council. "The council also demands that in cases where only a part of a building is acquired, the entire building should be acquired and compensated for if the owner requests," said Ashanparambil.
