Jordan, Syria Discuss Trade Expansion, Technical Cooperation at Joint Committee Meeting - Jordan News
The Jordanian-Syrian Economic and Trade Committee convened in Amman on Tuesday, co-chaired by Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah and Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Shaar, to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation and enhancing economic integration across key sectors. اضافة اعلان The meeting focused on fostering collaboration in transportation, agriculture, customs, specifications and standards, pharmaceuticals and food safety, industrial zones, and free economic areas, as part of efforts to elevate economic relations and advance mutual interests. The ministers underlined the importance of removing barriers to trade exchange and achieving tangible progress in joint projects, in line with outcomes from the inaugural session of the Supreme Coordination Council, chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries in Damascus. Qudah highlighted the need for regular meetings of the Joint Committee, noting the shared commitment to expanding cooperation despite global economic challenges. Shaar emphasized the strategic importance of implementing previously signed agreements and reaffirmed the strength of the ties between the two nations. Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Dana Zoubi, and Deputy Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Basil Abdul Hanan who led the preparatory meetings presented a summary of the outcomes of technical discussions. Key agreements included the formation of specialized technical committees for rapid coordination, a review of the bilateral free trade agreement, and the preparation of updated commodity lists of interest to both countries. The committee reaffirmed the outcomes of the technical land transport meetings held in Amman, particularly those related to regional trade facilitation, the reopening of the Bab al-Hawa crossing for transit trade, and the rehabilitation of the Syrian segment of the Hejaz railway. Both sides also agreed to build institutional capacity on the Syrian side through a comprehensive action plan that includes training programs in consumer protection, market oversight, national production protection, electronic certification, container management, trademark registration, digital transformation, and sector-specific topics in agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals. Discussions also addressed the acceleration of registering Jordanian pharmaceuticals in Syria, with Jordan offering technical training and support in areas such as inspection, compliance monitoring, and warehouse management. A digital product documenting Jordan's expertise in training and e-automation is currently under development by the Ministry. The committee further emphasized the need to develop joint standards, adopt a timetable for mutual recognition of specifications, and approve conformity certificates issued by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization for access to the Syrian market. Additionally, both countries exchanged indicative lists of agricultural products eligible for mutual trade, alongside proposed export timelines that align with each country's seasonal production cycles.

42 Patents Registered in the First Half of the Year A total of 42 patents were registered during the first half of the current year, including one local patent, according to data from the Industrial Property Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply. اضافة اعلان The data also showed that 2,191 trademarks were registered by the end of June, while 3,155 trademarks were renewed during the same period. Additionally, the directorate: Renewed 310 patents, Granted 10 licenses for the use of industrial property trademarks, Approved changes in the names and addresses of 557 industrial properties, Facilitated the transfer of ownership for 1,032 properties. In comparison, during 2024, a total of 5,687 trademarks were registered, and 6,245 trademarks were renewed. 111 patents were registered that year, eight of which were local. According to Jordanian law, a patent refers to any innovative idea developed by an inventor in any technical field, relating to a product, a manufacturing method, or both, and providing a solution to a specific problem in that field. The patent registration process involves all procedures related to patent applications, starting with guiding inventors on how to file a patent and ending with the issuance of the final certificate. This process includes technical and formal evaluations to ensure that applications meet all legal requirements, as well as procedures that serve third-party public interests—such as publication in the official gazette and access to public records. As for a trademark, it is defined as any visible sign used or intended to be used by a person to distinguish their goods, products, or services from those of others. — Petra

Tender to Purchase Wheat Quantities - Jordan News
The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply has issued a tender to purchase 100,000 to 120,000 tons of wheat. The Ministry called on interested parties to visit the Tenders Department to obtain a copy of the tender invitation, which includes all terms and specifications, for a non-refundable fee of 650 Jordanian dinars. Yarub Al-Qudah, affirmed that there are promising opportunities to boost Jordanian exports across various sectors to several countries, noting that Jordan possesses multiple competitive advantages that qualify its industrial products to enter new markets and strengthen their presence in traditional ones. اضافة اعلان During a meeting on Saturday with the boards of Jordan's industrial chambers to discuss issues affecting Jordanian exports in certain markets, Al-Qudah noted that Jordanian exports saw a significant increase in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. He emphasized that the government has issued several decisions aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian industry. He also highlighted ongoing coordination with the industrial sector to resolve any obstacles facing Jordanian products abroad, through follow-ups with the relevant authorities in those countries and taking necessary actions. For his part, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, praised the Ministry's active engagement with industry chambers and private sector representatives to address challenges hindering production and improve the competitiveness of the industrial sector in local and export markets. Al-Jaghbir added that it was agreed during the meeting to hold regular coordination meetings between the Minister of Industry and other relevant ministers with representatives of the industrial sector to address pressing issues. He emphasized that increasing Jordan's exports would help alleviate poverty and unemployment by creating more job opportunities for Jordanians.
