Matthew Perry's co-star says working with actor on rom-com was 'nightmare'
It's fair to say the film was not well received by critics or fans alike In the wake of Matthew Perry's untimely passing, fans are revisiting his less acclaimed movie endeavours during his tenure on the beloved TV series, with mixed feelings surfacing. Serving Sara, a rom-com from 2002 featuring Matthew Perry alongside Elizabeth Hurley, didn't hit the mark upon its debut and reportedly garnered a mere $5,750,000 on its opening weekend. Matthew portrays process server Joe Tyler tasked with delivering divorce papers to Sara Moore, depicted by Elizabeth, against the backdrop of her wealthy husband's wishes. In an attempt to dodge the papers, Sara sends Tyler on a ludicrous runaround as part of finalising her divorce. Critical voices from Rotten Tomatoes have left the film languishing with a paltry 4% rating, while audience feedback remains varied. An individual critique stated: "No chemistry with Perry and Hurley-and no laughs either. He serves her divorce papers, and they run around the country while Cedric the Entertainer talks on the phone." Another viewer weighed in with a tepid take, offering: "I really can't say it is a very good movie. But at the same time it has dull scenes, it features some very funny ones as well." They added: "Honestly, I think there is some bad acting, and I didn't like Elizabeth Hurley in the film. I will, however, praise, as always, Matthew Perry because he's an excellent actor and his talent is seen in the film. "So, it is not a very good film but not as bad as they say it is." Matthew Perry himself later revealed that he had been struggling with addiction during the filming of Serving Sara, which greatly impacted his performance, reports the Mirror US. In his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he shared his experiences on set, describing how his addiction led to difficulties with speaking and necessitating retakes of scenes. At one point, production was even halted for a few months while Matthew attended a rehab facility. When asked about her time working on Serving Sara, Elizabeth shared her thoughts in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment. She remembered: "I have very fond memories of him. To be honest, it was a nightmare working with him at that time, and, as it's now known, our movie was shut down because of his addiction." The production was suspended due to unforeseen circumstances, leaving the cast and crew idle for a period. However, upon Matthew's return, he delivered a commendable performance. Matthew's filmography includes roles in films such as 17 Again with Zac Efron, Fools Rush In, and The Whole Nine Yards. Despite a successful career, Serving Sara was not one of his shining moments. However, he will always be cherished by fans for his humorous portrayal of Chandler Bing in Friends.

Friends star recalls Matthew Perry's ‘gentlemanly' reaction to wardrobe blunder
A Friends star has remembered Matthew Perry's 'gentlemanly' reaction after accidentally finding herself topless in front of him. The Chandler Bing actor died in October 2023 at the age of 54 by acute effects of ketamine. In the months that have followed, his co-stars have shared their memories of working with him and paid emotional tributes. Now, Friends actress Paget Brewster, has shared her own unforgettable experience with him. The star played Kathy on the sitcom, who had a brief fling with Chandler in season four. Speaking to The Independent, Paget, who is better known for her role as Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds, recalled when Perry invited her back to his house to play basketball. 'I remember we had one day where Matthew and I were not going to be in scenes for about three hours. And so he said, 'Hey, do you want to go? Do you want to go play basketball at my house? It's just up Mulholland [Drive in Los Angeles].' 'And I was like, 'Sure, let's — I'll go play basketball at your house',' the 56-year-old shared. 'It was in his pool… and we're throwing hoops, and I was wearing a pair of his shorts and my bra,' she went on, explaining it was entirely innocent. 'He was dressed. I was dressed, but I threw a shot, and my bra slipped down, and Matthew — I'm laughing — and he looks at me, and he [puts his hand over his eyes] and goes, 'You're, you gotta, you might wanna take a look at that.'' She remembered Perry as 'such a gentleman and a sweetheart' after the awkward wardrobe blunder. 'He was really a lovely guy. And I'm really glad I was able to read his book before he passed,' she added to the publication, of Perry's 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. 'He's definitely missed.' In Perry's tell-all memoir, he spoke about his struggles with addiction, and terrifying near-death experiences. At one point, he revealed that he had been given a 2% chance of survival and was in a coma for two weeks after being hospitalised in 2018 after his colon burst from opioid misuse. 'The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,' the 17 Again star told People Magazine. 'I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that's called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.' He spent five months in hospital and had to use a colostomy bag for nine months. Elsewhere in the memoir, he revealed that it was Jennifer Aniston who confronted him about his drinking while they were staring in Friends together, recalling how she was there for him in his darkest times. Ahead of its release, he had said: 'So much has been written about me in the past. I thought it was time people heard from me. 'The highs were high, the lows were low. But I have lived to tell the tale, even though at times it looked like I wouldn't. And it's all in here.' After Perry's death, his Friends castmates – Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, with whom he worked across ten years, released a joint statement to expressing their devastation at Matthew's loss. More Trending 'We were more than just castmates. We are a family,' the statement read. New Doc Exposes the Secret Drug Scene That May Have Led to Matthew Perry's Tragic Death
Peacock has unveiled the official trailer for Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, a new one-hour documentary special that examines the life, struggles, and untimely death of beloved Friends actor Matthew Perry. Set to premiere on February 25, 2025, the documentary explores the legal case surrounding Perry's passing, including allegations of an underground Hollywood ketamine network that may have contributed to his demise. The special, produced by ITN Productions, features exclusive interviews with Hollywood insiders, law enforcement officials, and legal experts, including U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, who has been leading the case against five individuals allegedly connected to Perry's death. Matthew Perry, best known for playing the quick-witted Chandler Bing on Friends, captivated audiences with his comedic timing and charismatic presence. However, behind the scenes, Perry struggled with substance abuse for decades. In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he candidly detailed his battles with addiction, multiple rehab stays, and near-death experiences. On October 28, 2023, Perry was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. The news of his death at age 54 shocked fans and Hollywood alike. Initial reports suggested he drowned in his jacuzzi, but later toxicology results revealed high levels of ketamine in his system. This discovery raised significant questions about how he obtained the drug and whether medical professionals or enablers played a role in his death. A major focus of Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy is the alleged underground ketamine scene in Los Angeles, which has become increasingly scrutinized following Perry's death. Ketamine, originally developed as an anesthetic, has gained popularity in recent years for its off-label use in treating depression and chronic pain. However, its potential for misuse, particularly in high doses, has raised concerns among medical professionals and law enforcement. The documentary investigates how ketamine is procured and distributed within Hollywood's elite circles, shedding light on the risks of unchecked access to powerful substances. The involvement of Perry's personal assistant and alleged drug suppliers highlights how even those in recovery can become entangled in dangerous drug networks. The U.S. Attorney's Office has charged five individuals in relation to Perry's ketamine use, including two doctors, a woman known as the 'Ketamine Queen,' and Perry's personal assistant. Authorities allege that these individuals conspired to illegally supply Perry with the drug, despite knowing the potential dangers. Among those charged: Perry's personal assistant, who allegedly coordinated ketamine deliveries Two medical doctors, accused of improperly prescribing ketamine A Hollywood drug dealer, known for catering to elite clients The so-called 'Ketamine Queen', an alleged key figure in L.A.'s underground ketamine trade While three of the defendants have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with investigators, two have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, who is featured in the documentary, outlines the charges and the legal strategies being pursued to hold those responsible accountable. To provide a comprehensive look at Perry's final days, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy features exclusive interviews with individuals closely connected to the case. Actress Morgan Fairchild, who played Perry's mother on Friends, shares her reflections on his life, career, and struggles. Additional perspectives come from: Law enforcement officials, who discuss the broader issue of drug accessibility in Hollywood Medical experts, who explain the effects of ketamine and its risks Hollywood insiders, who provide insight into Perry's personal and professional life By weaving together these interviews, the documentary aims to paint a full picture of Perry's final days, from his efforts to maintain sobriety to the circumstances that led to his tragic death. Beyond the legal case, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy serves as a tribute to Perry's legacy. The documentary revisits his rise to fame, his philanthropic efforts—including the Perry House, a sober living facility he founded—and the lasting impact he had on audiences worldwide. Through archival footage, personal anecdotes, and expert analysis, the special balances the tragedy of Perry's passing with a celebration of his contributions to the entertainment industry.
