Tuatahi & Ventia sign NZD $110 million fibre network deal
Tuatahi First Fibre has signed a new agreement with Ventia, appointing the company as its primary partner for service delivery across its fibre broadband network. The agreement, which has an initial five-year term and is valued at more than NZD $110 million, builds upon a partnership between the two companies that dates back to 2011. Ventia will deliver network build, customer connections, and maintenance activities, supporting Tuatahi's growing network across several key regions in New Zealand. Extending a longstanding partnership Ventia brings significant experience to its role, providing services that include design, build, and maintenance, as well as reactive support, field service supervision, and project management. The expanded arrangement covers fibre network operations in areas served by Tuatahi, which operates the second-largest fibre network in New Zealand, reaching over 254,000 households and businesses. According to John Hanna, Chief Executive Officer of Tuatahi First Fibre, the new agreement is a significant step in continuing to meet increasing demand for fibre broadband and delivering service expectations to both retailers and consumers. "We've built a strong and trusted relationship with Ventia over the past 14 years, and this new agreement is a critical step in our ongoing commitment to delivering excellent service to fibre broadband retailers and consumers," Mr Hanna said. He also commented on the partnership's ability to scale to the demands of New Zealand's digital economy and sustain a high standard of network performance. "As demand for reliable, high-speed broadband continues to grow, we're confident this partnership will help us scale effectively, respond quickly, and maintain high performance across our network – connecting more New Zealanders to world-class fibre broadband." Ambedkar Sports City moves a step closer to reality, tender process begins
Kochi: Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) will soon issue a tender inviting project management consultancy, which is first step towards beginning construction of Ambedkar Sports City in the city. Executive committee of the authority, held recently, gave green signal to issue the tender. The authority plans to implement the project using corporate social responsibility funds. Total estimated cost of the project is Rs 90 crore. The project is being implemented after demolishing the existing Ambedkar Stadium. The stadium, located in the city centre, was in a dilapidated condition. It was around two years ago that the executive committee of GCDA granted approval for demolition of the existing stadium to set up a sports city. Design of the new stadium is almost finalized. GCDA completed demolition of galleries of the existing stadium using Rs 2 crore allotted by 2024-25 state budget. "We are considering appointing a govt-accredited agency like Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society for the construction works. Discussions are ongoing," said a source. A football stadium will be constructed along with other sports facilities. Adequate lighting and toilet facilities will be ensured. There will be an exclusive parking area for the new stadium. Before starting the work, GCDA has to shift 72 shops that are functioning in the old stadium building. A GCDA official said the project to rehabilitate vendors will be completed soon.

Judge removal involves several steps. Here's how it proceeds Once a judicial inquiry committee concludes in its report about wrongdoing by a constitutional court judge, the CJI, on being satisfied with the committee's finding, offers an opportunity to the judge concerned to resign. If the judge refuses, then the CJI forwards the inquiry report to the President, who is the appointing authority, and the PM. The PM and the Union Cabinet, after discussing the report, may ask the law ministry/parliamentary affairs ministry to initiate a motion for removal. A notice for motion of removal against the judge can be moved in Rajya Sabha if 50 or more MPs sign the motion, and in Lok Sabha if 100 or more MPs agree to put their signatures to it. Once the motion is placed before the LS Speaker or RS chairman, in either case, he carries out a preliminary review of the report as well as the accompanying motion and has the power to 'admit or refuse to admit' the notice of motion for removal (Section 3 of Judges Inquiry Act, 1968). In the event of admitting the notice of motion for removal, the head of the House concerned will keep the motion pending and constitute a three-member committee for 'the purpose of making an investigation into the grounds on which the removal of a judge is prayed for'. The committee will then frame charges against the judge concerned. 'Such charges, together with a statement of the grounds on which each such charge is based, shall be communicated to the judge and he shall be given a reasonable opportunity of presenting a written statement of defence within such time as may be specified in this behalf by the committee,' the Act provides. Section 4 of the Act provides, 'The committee shall have power to regulate its own procedure in making the investigation and shall give a reasonable opportunity to the judge of cross-examining witnesses, adducing evidence and of being heard in his defence.' If the report finds the judge guilty, then the head of the House will lay the report before the House as soon as possible and the House will take up the motion for removal for debate. The motion will then have to be passed by each House, supported by a majority of the total membership of that House and by a majority of not less than twothirds of the members of the House present and voting. It will then be presented to the President for removal of the judge.
