One person arrested after two attempted carjackings involving firearm in Brantford

One person is in custody after allegedly attempting two armed carjackings in Brantford on Friday night. Brantford Police say officers responded to a 911 call just after 9 p.m. from the area of Tecumseh Street and Strathcona Avenue, where a male allegedly brandished a firearm and attempted to steal a vehicle. They say the attempt was unsuccessful and the suspect fled on foot. Minutes later, a second 911 call came in from the area of Edward Street and Huron Street reporting a similar incident involving a male with a firearm trying to steal another vehicle. Police say the descriptions matched and officers determined both incidents were related. With the help of a K-9 unit, officers arrested a male suspect nearby a short time later. No physical injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is no threat to public safety. A Chicago man was charged with his participation in the armed carjacking of a handicapped woman on the city's West Side earlier this week. Kennedy Leach, 18, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by Citywide Vehicular Hijacking Task Force members in the 1100 block of South California Avenue. He was charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking of a handicapped person. Chicago police said Leach was identified as one of the suspects who took a vehicle at gunpoint from a 62-year-old woman in the 3500 block of West Congress Parkway earlier in the day. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. No further information was available.

Teen charged in Southeast DC attempted armed carjacking

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — An 18-year-old has been arrested in an attempted armed carjacking in Southeast D.C. on Friday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Dayshawn Lee has been charged with armed carjacking, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and possession of unregistered ammunition. Man shot in Northeast DC; police investigating Police say Lee approached the victim while pointing a gun shortly after 10 a.m. as he was sitting on a moped near 9th and G Street SE. A fight between the two then began. Officers arrived on the scene and were able to arrest Lee before he could steal the moped. Police say the case remains under investigation, and detectives are searching for another suspect. Anyone who has knowledge of this incident is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text the Department's tip line at 50411. MPD currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
