Two youths arrested in connection with ‘racially motivated assault': N.S. RCMP

Two youths are facing charges in connection with a 'racially motivated assault' in Cole Harbour, N.S., Monday. The RCMP responded to a report of an assault in the parking lot of a recreation centre of Forest Hills Parkway just before 5 p.m. 'Through the investigation, RCMP officers learned three youths had followed a man, a woman and two children to a vehicle. The youths shouted obscenities and racially motivated hate speech before one of the youths sprayed an irritant in the man's face,' reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP. The youths fled on foot once police were called, according to the release. Police say the two youths were arrested the next day in Dartmouth and a can of sensory irritant was seized. Both youths are facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. One of the youths is facing an additional charge of fail to comply with release order. They appeared in Halifax provincial youth court on Wednesday and were released on conditions. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment at 902-490-5020 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The investigation is ongoing.
