NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Thursday, June 19: Clues And Answers For Today's Game
Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Wednesday's: Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is going as deliciously as possible. I've had a full beard for a long time. It's been over 10 years since I've been clean shaven. I'm still claiming that despite a recent mishap. While using a new electric razor/clipper thing that I picked up, I accidentally buzzed pretty much all of my beard off. I tidy my face fuzz in the shower instead of the sink to make cleaning up easier, but there's no mirror (not that I'd see much without my glasses on anyway). You'd think that I'd at least feel what I'm doing, but nope. It's pure vibes for me. It wasn't all gone. The clipper left some stubble, so I can still say I wasn't clean shaven. There is a lesson here for me, I think. Maybe it's not always best to jump into something new with both feet. A little caution might be the best course of action. Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, June 19 are coming right up. Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them. Today's 16 words are... And the hints for today's Connections groups are: Need some extra help? Be warned: we're starting to get into spoiler territory. Let's take a look at one word for each group. Today's Connections word hints are… Today's Connections groups are... Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... I enjoyed the FINAL DESTINATION reference on the top line. Those horror films are invariably good, gory fun. The latest one became available to rent and buy digitally this week. I've heard positive things about Final Destination Bloodlines, so I'm looking forward to catching it this weekend. (Seeing TRAIN and STOPS together on the top line was amusing too. The train in the original Final Destination did not stop. If you know, you know.) Oh yeah, we've got a Connections puzzle to solve! Let's do that. The yellows fit together easily enough in my mind. HOMEWORK was a dead giveaway there. I then took a stab at BALL, MASKS, GLOVES and JACKETS, thinking they'd be related to a masquerade ball. That left me one away from a group. I realized a moment later that I was actually looking for fencing gear, so I swapped out BALL for FOILS (one of the weapons used in fencing). I was a little surprised to see that was the purple group. (I was stumped for a hint, so I went for a pun on "fencing." Please don't be mad <3) The greens jumped out at me after that. That left the blues. I did figure out the connection before submitting those. I wonder how many people have played with JACKS this century. No perfect game this time, because I am too gosh darn hasty. Still, that's win 114 for my latest streak. Here's the grid: 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟪🟪🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday's game if you need them. P.S. Last week, I saw Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins play a bunch of Pumpkins songs with a band that was not the Pumpkins, but included another one of the Pumpkins. The tour marks the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and the 25th anniversary of Machina/The Machines of God. The show was… fine? It was fun to hear Corgan and crew play the likes of "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" and "Tonight Tonight" in a small, sub-1,000-capacity venue. I had been looking forward to this show and, as I often do, I checked the setlist for previous dates. I was happy to see that the previous few had five-song encores, including my absolute favorite Pumpkins song, "Stand Inside Your Love." On this night, however, the encore was only one song long. Don't get me wrong, it was cool to see former Pumpkins bass player (and Montreal native) Melissa Auf der Maur make a guest appearance on "The Everlasting Gaze" to close the night, but I was sad not to hear "Stand Inside Your Love" live for the second time in my life. Anyway, since I've recommended that song and "Tonight Tonight" in this column previously, let's go with "Disarm" (a track from Siamese Dream that I didn't hear the other night) rather than a sonically heavier Pumpkins track: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and others! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.

Zayn Malik Is Nearly Unrecognizable With Full Beard, Fans Are Thirsting Over His New Look
Zayn Malik's seemingly relaxed Sunday afternoon has whipped fans into a tizzy — and, honestly, we can't say we blame them. Malik, 32, uploaded a selfie of himself to Instagram on Sunday, May 25, in which he wore a white tank top, a tangle of gold necklaces and a black baseball cap that read, 'HBO Original The Last of Us.' He also had a thick, bushy beard that has Us doing a double take. While Malik has sported stubble through the years, he had recently been clean-shaven for the duration of his recent Stairway to the Sky Tour earlier in 2025. It's safe to say that Malik's full beard has his fans thirsting over his physique. Zayn Malik's Grown-Out Beard Has Us Doing a Double Take Over His New Look 'Zayn Javadd [sic] Malik, the man that you are,' one social media user commented, as another wrote, 'Well hello handsome, I hope you're doing well.' A third replied, 'Farmer Zayn, I love you 😍.' Malik, who hails from England, primarily resides on a farm in Pennsylvania with 4-year-old daughter Khai. (The One Direction alum coparents his only child with ex Gigi Hadid.) Zayn Malik Through the Years: From One Direction Member to Solo Hitmaker 'I ended up coming out here with my ex a bit, and I fell in love with it,' Malik recalled of his farm during a 2023 appearance on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast. 'It was just super calm and chill. … I just wanted to take a break from the busy city 'cause I was living in New York for three years at a time, and it just got a bit overwhelming, like, going out of your door to just craziness all the time. I wanted a bit more of a surrounding that I'm used to where I grew up in Bradford.' Malik's life out of the limelight also gave him time to grow out his facial hair. 'There were certain restrictions in terms of the way that we could come outside of that young teen boy look. … I wasn't allowed to keep it,' he claimed to Complex in 2016, referring to his time in One Direction. 'Eventually, when I got older, I rebelled against it and decided to keep it anyway. That was just because I looked older than the rest of them.' He added, 'That's one of the things that is now quite cool. I get to keep my beard. I also wanted to dye my hair when I was in the band, but I wasn't allowed to.' Malik left the British boy band in 2017, going on to become a solo artist.

Austin Wells has Yankees' first facial hair superstition since beard policy change
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Austin Wells' beard is safe … for at least a few more days. The New York Yankees' first facial hair superstition in their new era of beard tolerance stayed alive with a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. It clinched a series victory for the Yankees, which meant Wells wouldn't have to break out the Bic. Advertisement Before Opening Day, Wells and catching coach Tanner Swanson made a pact. They would only shave when the team lost a series. 'Hopefully,' Wells said recently, 'we don't lose another series the rest of the year.' They haven't had to shave too often. Especially lately. The Yankees have rattled off seven straight series wins since falling to the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game set in early May. They won their first two games of a three-game set versus the Angels that began Monday. 'I would prefer if (Wells) kept (the beard), but I understand,' starting pitcher Carlos Rodón said. 'He seems to grow a beard within two days. So I guess if he shaves it, it really doesn't matter because it's going to show up pretty quickly.' The Yankees are 34-20, the second-best record in the American League. They're seven games ahead atop the AL East. The Angels fell to 25-29. 'Doing a lot of good things,' manager Aaron Boone said. 'We've won some of these lower-scoring games now, too. It's not like we've just blown teams out over and over. That's been good to see. We've been winning a couple of these tight games, which eluded us a little bit early. But just overall playing good baseball.' Carlos Rodón. Jump Throw. 🤯#RepBX — New York Yankees (@Yankees) May 28, 2025 The win came as Rodón dominated, striking out 10 and issuing zero walks for the first time this season over seven scoreless innings. The Yankees also received solo shots from designated hitter Ben Rice (11 home runs this season) and third baseman Oswald Peraza (three). Shortstop Anthony Volpe contributed an RBI single. Devin Williams earned his first save in a month, but it wasn't easy. He gave up a home run to Yoan Moncada to lead off the ninth. A single, a flyout and another single later, Williams had runners on the corners when Jo Adell grounded into a fielder's choice to shortstop that scored Taylor Ward. Volpe made an excellent stop ranging to his right before firing to second base, where DJ LeMahieu dragged his back foot across the bag to secure the out. The Angels challenged the call, but it was upheld. Advertisement Then pinch hitter Logan O'Hoppe swung at a 3-0 fastball and popped out foul to third base to end the game. It meant Wells and Swanson wouldn't have to worry about razor burn on Wednesday. Wells said he likes having a beard because it helps his catcher's mask sit 'a little nicer on the chin.' 'It doesn't get as irritated,' he said. 'So, that's nice.' The Yankees stunned baseball when they abandoned their nearly 50-year policy banning facial hair Feb. 21. The rule originated with late owner George Steinbrenner, and it was a hot-button topic for fans and players. Some loved it. Some hated it. The team had been considering ending the policy for years, but momentum toward making the change increased after the club traded for reliever Devin Williams, who told the Yankees, including owner Hal Steinbrenner, he wanted to keep his beard. After days of deliberation and conversation, Steinbrenner changed the policy to allow 'well-groomed' beards, the team said in a statement at the time. General manager Brian Cashman immediately had Wells in mind when it happened. 'It looks like Austin Wells probably has to shave twice a day just to comply with the prior setup,' Cashman said at the time. When the Yankees changed the policy, Wells wasn't sure he was going to grow a beard. The Yankees drafted him in 2020. For as long as he was in professional baseball, he was used to shaving during the season and unleashing his beard in the offseason. But there's a difference between keeping a beard and letting it run wild. Wells has kept up trimming it around his neck, off his lip and near his ears. He said he had been packing his trimmer for road trips just in case. Swanson said he looks at the superstition as a 'way to connect with Wellsy.' 'I like to think we have probably as close of a relationship as you can have player-coach,' Swanson said. 'I enjoy spending time with him. We spend more time together than we do with our families. This is one small distraction from the day-in, day-out baseball connection we share. I'm having fun with it.' Advertisement Swanson said Boone recently gave him a friendly reminder to keep his beard a little neater. So Swanson used a straight razor to chisel at it. He hadn't packed a trimmer for the Yankees' three-city jaunt out West. The public reaction to the Yankees' ending the policy was loud when it happened, but Boone said he has been surprised at how quickly beards in the clubhouse have felt normal to him. Even team captain Aaron Judge has allowed himself to grow some scruff. 'You always thought this day might come and people's heads are going to explode and, 'What's it going to be like?'' Boone said. 'It's already gone away pretty quickly, in my view. I don't know how people view it, but I don't think about it.' Rodón has grown a full beard and said he's on the verge of needing to corral it. 'I'm getting there, too,' he said. 'I don't really want to, but I'll have to trim it some.' Max Fried said he loves Wells' superstition. 'Man,' Fried said, 'that's a thick mustache. I think it's more impressive how fast (Wells') beard grew to be able to match that mustache.' 'Tanner's got a good one going, too, now,' Rodón said. 'Hopefully, he keeps it for the rest of the year.' All the Yankees' winning has left Wells with one concern, though. 'I just got to make sure (the beard) doesn't get too out of hand,' he said.
