Commerce and Industry minister, private sector representatives discuss key current challenges
DOHA: Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani has held the second meeting of 2025 with representatives of the private sector from the Qatar Chamber and the Qatari Businessmen Association. The meeting aimed to discuss the key current challenges facing the private sector and explore practical solutions to address them, as well as review the latest developments in initiatives and projects related to improving the business environment in the country. During the meeting, the Minister of Commerce and Industry emphasized the Ministry's commitment to supporting and empowering the private sector, describing it as a key partner in achieving sustainable economic development. He noted that the meeting reflects the Ministry's approach of strengthening direct communication channels with its partners in the private sector and listening to their views and suggestions. He highlighted that constructive cooperation and the integration of efforts among all stakeholders are essential to overcoming challenges, stressing the importance of continuous efforts to implement initiatives that contribute to creating a business-friendly and investment-attractive environment. The meeting covered several topics related to the Ministry's initiatives and projects to improve the business climate, including streamlining procedures, updating legislation, and facilitating the practice of commercial and investment activities. Qatar affirms unwavering commitment to support LDCs
QNA Seville Qatar has affirmed that it will spare no effort in fulfilling its duty to support the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) through enhanced international cooperation, based on its policy of partnership and collaboration. This came in Qatar's statement delivered by Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad at the High-Level Meeting for the Least Developed Countries, held on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Financing For Development (FFD4), attended by Prime Minister of Nepal and Chair of the LDC Group K.P. Sharma, and UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the LDCs, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima. The Minister of State for International Cooperation said that Qatar is proud to co-lead the Group of Friends of the LDCs alongside Turkiye and Belgium. She noted that the group works to advance international and regional efforts aimed at supporting the LDCs in implementing the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, and in addressing the development challenges they face through the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action, in coordination with the LDC Group, development partners, and the United Nations. She pointed out that the international community has reaffirmed its commitment to continue implementing the Doha Programme of Action for the LDCs, as stated in the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, known as the Seville Commitment. The document called on member states, the United Nations and relevant international organisations, international financial institutions, multilateral development banks, and development partners to continue supporting LDCs in achieving sustainable development. This includes implementing the Doha Programme of Action, integrating LDCs into the global trading system, enhancing their infrastructure, especially digital infrastructure, removing barriers to market access, supporting the UN Technology Facilitation Mechanism and the UN Technology Bank for LDCs, facilitating access to finance, and fulfilling commitments related to Official Development Assistance (ODA). Al Misnad added that Qatar is proud of its leading role in implementing the Doha Programme of Action for the LDCs, in partnership with the UN Office of the High Representative for the LDCs and other specialised agencies, stressing that Qatar pledged, during the Fifth United Nations Conference on the LDCs hosted in Doha in March 2023, under the guidance of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to provide a financial contribution totaling $60 million to support the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action, its intended outcomes, and capacity-building for resilience. She explained that preparations are currently underway to hold a high-level meeting in Doha at the end of this year on promoting sustainable graduation for countries exiting the LDC category, benefiting from partner support and best practices, adding that Qatar will host the high-level midterm review meeting of the Doha Programme of Action to assess progress, address challenges, and work toward full implementation of the programme through 2031.

The minister clarified that while the Ministry will retain its strategic regulatory and oversight functions, Manateq will take on a more prominent role in managing day-to-day operations and delivering infrastructure solutions. This shift is in direct alignment with the directives of His Excellency the Prime Minister and key pillars of the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3), particularly those related to improving logistics, updating industrial legislation, and upgrading physical infrastructure. The meeting also served as a platform to introduce elements of the National Manufacturing Strategy, which is being refined to reflect emerging global trends such as digitalisation, green manufacturing, and circular economy principles. The discussion also covered current regulatory procedures and included proposals to improve the industrial business environment and facilitate the establishment of new projects. During the meeting, the Minister of Commerce and Industry emphasized the importance of joint efforts to create a stimulating and attractive industrial investment environment. Such an environment, he noted, would help boost the sector's contribution to the national economy and diversify sources of income. Vietnam's SIPCO Wins Global Award in Dubai for Large-Scale Clean Water Innovation
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vietnam's Sustainability Investment Promotion and Development Joint Stock Company (SIPCO) has been named first runner-up in the Innovative Projects Award (Large Projects category) during the fourth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. The award, with a total prize pool of USD 1 million, is supervised by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. It honours scalable, sustainable solutions powered by renewable energy to tackle water scarcity. SIPCO was honoured for its large-scale ceramic coating nano-silver pot filter (CSPF) programme, a high-impact initiative aimed at delivering safe drinking water to vulnerable schools and communities across South-east Asia. The clay-based filters, infused with nano-silver to improve antibacterial and antiviral performance, remove bacteria, viruses and sediments from contaminated sources such as rivers, wells and rainwater. Capable of filtering two to three litres an hour, each unit is designed for household and school use and lasts up to 10 years with periodic replacement of the clay pot component. The filters are manufactured in a high-capacity automated facility capable of producing 120,000 units a month. SIPCO's programme has so far delivered over 1.8 million units, benefitting 13.7 million people, including 1.7 million households and 6,000 schools, and generating an estimated 23.15 billion litres of clean water annually. Moreover, the project has contributed to a reduction of 1.8 million tonnes of CO 2 emissions and generated verified carbon credits under the Clean Development Mechanism and Verified Carbon Standard frameworks. SIPCO works in partnership with organisations such as the Red Cross and engages local communities in the production, distribution and maintenance of the filters, creating sustainable economic opportunities in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. 'The water crisis is a serious threat to human health as it leads to the spread of disease. Addressing this challenge requires collective action. No single individual, company or organisation can solve it alone. We must come together and work in unity to find sustainable solutions.
